Boy, the Apple Watch is thick. It just looks uncomfortable. Hopefully, revision 2 or 3 will make them acceptable slimmer.

My wife who isn't tech at all wants an Apple watch. When she told me I was shocked, I think its cool but I would wait for generation 2 when they cut the thickness in half

With one day battery life these first generation apple watches are a VERY easy pass

who cares you're charging your phone everyday anyway so it makes no difference to plug your watch in right beside it

They should have dropped the heart rate monitor that I am sure adds quite a bit to the thickness

I find it curious that Samsung can hear an Apple rumor, then design and manufacture the rumor, and be on the market half a year sooner. They are fast workers, those Samsungese.

As my wife always says, "Faster is not better. Quality and performance always wins out."

The heart rate monitor is the main reason I'm going to buy one. It's the key to any and every workout and activity. (see my previous post above)

This product is going to be scrutinised beyond anything that's come before. The first Post-Jobs product that Apple has invented, developed and (soon to be) released.

Can't stand the excitement!

I saw a Samsung watch in the wild yesterday.

Your comment has to be a joke. Poorly executed, but a joke nonetheless.;)

OT: My daughter wants one to go with her iP6. I told her if she still wants one in 2 years, I'll buy it. I will let Apple work out the "beta-style" kinks on early adopters and buy a more complete version 2.

You'll also have a clearer understanding of the upgrade and update cycle.

It won't matter when Apple launches it. After the complete and utter debacle of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch, I believe that Apple will screw this launch up too. They will have plenty of one model and color on hand, of course it will be the model and color that no one wants. They will have limited or none of the other models. People will pre-order and get them a month or two after the launch.

I hope you passed on the smartphones with one day battery life too.

No, but I will say I'm glad I passed on the first gen iPad. The second one blew it out of the water and is still supported today. This is how I feel about the Apple Watch. The second gen will blow this out of the water. It's definitely a wait and see product. The iPhone's value proposition was off the charts and it was years ahead of anything on the market. Not so with the Apple Watch.

Seems very "Apple" to have a production problem, but then miraculously save the day at the last minute and get the product out exactly when they wanted it to be out. It keeps the rumor mill filled with Apple exposure, keeps their name on the news, and let's them have a very precise and controlled release

From experience, I tell you, wife knows the best. I say go with it and buy her an Apple watch... Your quality of life will improve a great deal...:p

Seems it's going to stay for longer time in market as compared to iDevices that get an upgrade very year.

I don't think so, but it is plausible prob will happen w gen 2-3. why does it seem that way to you?

That's not a good comparison. The watch is going to be a companion item. All the heavy lifting will be done on the phone. If the watch is for glances and limited contact, I think an expectation of a battery life longer than one day is more than reasonable. If the battery life is only one day with the phone doing the actual work, how terrible could the battery life get when the watch gains more standalone functionality?

One day battery life on a phone? Are we talking an older phone? I get an average of 1.5 days when working, and when I was on vacation I got 2.25 days. Yeah, I know YMMV, but a watch needs more than a day of battery life. IMO, of course.

it's been months now, and i just can't get over the square shape. i'd sacrifice screen real estate just so it didn't look like an iPod Shuffle Air on my wrist. watches - in my mind - are round(!)

Will everything be manufactured in China or is China just for final assembly? The back of the watch doesn't say where it's made. Is that something Apple will be required to add?

Image

According to Apple's website the milanese loop is woven on special Italian machines. The leather in the leather bands come from France, Italy and the Netherlands. It makes me wonder if certain pieces of Watch (like the bands) will be made elsewhere and final assembly will be in China?

Probably. There are many watches that the case is made somewhere and the band another and each is marked appropriately. As for the China markings I don't think they put them on the ad since it will "cheapen" the high class watch thing they are trying to go for; but they will be shown.
