Boy, the Apple Watch is thick. It just looks uncomfortable. Hopefully, revision 2 or 3 will make them acceptable slimmer.

Apparently it's very comfortable. A buddy tried a few of the demo units on at the launch and way less thicker than some watches.

Apple Watch ~10.6mm (case) -12.46mm ( case+ back sensor ) according to calculations based on the images.
*** EDIT *** source: http://www.paulsprangers.com/2014/09/apple-watch-dimensions/
Rolexes are 9.7mm - 13mm
G-Shocks 16mm-20mm
TW Steels - 15-20

If you look at the design of the Apple Watch. It does look like it could shrink over generations to a 1/3rd of it's thickness but keep the same strap locking design. So potentially an Apple watch 3/4 could be 3-4mm thick

Sure they are not going to beat these... at less than 1mm :D http://centralstandardtiming.com

Ur doing it wrong...

Nice stats... though I am not seeing much actually tasking it there... games / video etc.

Sweet. Soo excited to get mine in February 2016 when the battery allows me to use it as an alarm on my wrist at night for sleeping too. Until then Pebble has my money

Yeah, a watch (which I own) with a poor Black and White screen. Of course the battery life will be longer. It's barely doing anything

It is likely that for some, after the money is spent, they will find/force their need upon themselves in order to mentally justify and avoid dissonance.

You know this because it's what you do after spending money.

I know that because I'm a mind reader.

I'm not talking about an ad I'm talking about photographs of the watch. The watch on display at the September event did not say assembled in China anywhere on the device.

Perhaps the watch on display was a prototype, and was not assembled anywhere in China.

I'm excited to get mine a full year before you get yours.

If only Apple would float some rumors that they are working on:
  • cures for all diseases
  • the best of Star Trek technologies (transporter, replicator, warp drive, etc.)
[*]instant charge batteries that last weeks
  • 95%+ efficient solar cells made of dirt cheap materials
  • and so on

There are others, in universities - Car batteries ( same size as teslas ) that could do 2000mile on an hour charge. The internal combustion engine would be dead when this get off the ground. <Rant>Forget Hydrogen cars - just a means to keep control of the delivery and Tax on fuel! Electric is everywhere and much more efficient to convert at a central location than in a small engine. </Rant over>

The same tech in a current smart phone phone was quoted as 1 week+ battery life and Charge in 5 mins.

Bring it on!

Solar is getting better and better though.

Sorry can't help with the rest... or Antigravity or Cold Fusion

Nice, hopefully the quality will be to the level we expect from Apple.

It will be. As with many of their products though, wait until the next release. Well, don't wait because it would be great for Apple to sell a bunch of these but I'll wait until the Apple Watch 2.

The iWatch: An iPhone Variant Too Far- The day people realised Apple wasn't infallible after all ...

When it tanks ... And it will. there'll be consternation initially. But it'll make Apple take stock. Realise they aren't immortal. And realise they have to to innovate more than just producing another different sized version of Steve Jobs' iPhone.

To summarise.
iWatch: an overpriced white elephant that is out of date at launch and nobody really asked for or needed. Bad.
IWatch fallout: a corporate rethink will occur and Apple will stop employing headphones manufacturers, fashion designers and media posturing and actually be the market leaders in innovation once again. Good.

Yes. They got lazy. But sometimes a 'Kings Clothes' faux-pas is the shock treatment is what was needed. The iWatch is that.
Apple can still be great again.
Release the iWatch. Take the hit. Admit even the big guys can get things wrong sometimes Come back stronger.

Let's do it!

That's a lot of people destined for welfare when this daft scheme goes down the tube. But they wont be Apple employees so they don't give a **** Just people as part of the game.

When the iPhone first came out, the appeal was immediately obvious. You could email, surf the web no matter where you were. But I don't understand the appeal of smart watches. How hard is it to take your phone out of your pocket to check time, message, email etc?

Samsung has released 6 different watches... and in the first weekend Apple Watch goes on same, Apple will sell more than all 6 of those combined ... so what does it matter???

Meh I spent $100 on a Samsung Gear 2 Neo on Black Friday. It's a nice gadget, but $100 is about the limit I would spend on a smartwatch as of now.

$350+ sounds like an instant pass for most people.

It's called the Apple Watch. At least get the name right if you're going to spew nonsense.

That's very efficient!

(We got all the nutty battery hype out of the way in one post.)

Because it's a prototype.

Well it has plenty of other markings on it for being a prototype. And considering they had every possible combination on display, plus a number of Apple employees have been wearing them, that's sure a lot of prototypes they made.

Perhaps they will display it on the watch face like all the good Swiss watchmakers do. ;)

I can't wait till developers start coding for this and this watch goes down hill faster than the stock market.

I am a big apple fan and I really cant get even a little bit excited for this watch. This is going to be bad news for apple. maybe this watch will be a flop like the apple tv.

I concur.

Although I don't have the slightest interest in any smartwatch, I do hope Apple has good success with theirs as I remain a very committed shareholder.

Speaking of quality, I'm extremely pleased to report iOS 8.1.2 (12B440) is running very well on my iPhone 6 Plus. I chose to do a clean install like I normally do and I'm noticing a small 8 to 12% increase in battery life which is always welcome.

Overall the battery life, even from day one has been very satisfactory. :)

Can't wait, our wrists are ready. Haven't worn a watch in over 15 years, but WTF, it'll be neat.

Apple Solves Yield Issues with Apple Watch Components…

Or, more like this was the plan all along? Every new release is plagued with sensationalists reports of supply chain and/or shipping schedule slips. Yet the product always releases on it's intended date. (Must be magic.)

The :apple:watch may indeed be successful, but I was disappointed. To me there is too much emphasis on the watch part of it. The least used aspect of my iPhone is the actual phone. I rarely make or take any phone calls.

I hate to be one of those guys, but here is where I feel they really missed the vision of Steve Jobs. Rather than trying to make the world best watch, they should have made all the focus on what a wrist worn device could do that was really novel. No, I don't know exactly what that is, but I don't think the :apple:watch is it.

It may be that over time it will morph into what I was hoping that they would give me, but in it's present iteration I have no interest. I hope that it does really well and that really powerful apps come along that push it to be more compelling. But I stopped wearing a watch years ago and this doesn't do enough to make me want to start back up.

Of course this is all my opinion and my perception and I hold nothing against anyone who is frothing at the mouth to get one. :D
