you are new to this, right?

Apple loves buzz. This was intentional most likely. The date is probably either from last year as someone mentioned or just random. If the test was for tomorrow then people wouldn't get excited etc.
This is intentional "free" marketing and press. Just see how much talk there is about this.

Event is probably second week of sep or later.

Why would there be a test on September 10? Why not do a test for tomorrow? Why September 10???

No way. Apple knows exactly how excited people are about the new iPhones. They don't need to test waters and see how it is. If the date was from last year why would Apple take it down right away? Obviously they,re testing something and there's some sort of a movement.

Apple even said iPhones will be delayed by few weeks which means we're looking at 2 weeks maximum. I still believe we'll see a new iPhone before the month of September is over.

Exactly, We will be able to order new iPhone in the month of September. Mark my words.
Ehhh not likely. MAYBE you’ll be able to PRE-ORDER the cheaper phones in September, but no way will we see any iPhones ship in September. Of course I’d love to be wrong about that!

You misunderstood. This is not testing the water. This is creating the buzz so people know its the iPhone season. Creating the hype in good old Apple's fashion.
They do this all the time.

Apple does their roll out on a Tuesday's to give everyone a chance to fly in on Monday for the presentation. This year there is no Live presentation because of Covid therefore they could have it on a Thursday.

It has nothing to do with flying in.

For journalists and public relations, Tuesday and Wednesday offer the highest viewer and reader days of the workweek. It's a well known statistic.

A Thursday launch means half of the world won't read about it until Friday morning.

I see NO reason they can't announce ALL five iPhone 12 models on Sept 10th.
There’s a huge difference between “can”, and “chooses to”. They could announce next week, if they wanted to, and just put off shipping for a couple months. But they want a very specific amount of time between announcing and shipping (not too long, not too short), and they have a very good sense of when to release to get the most consumer interest (and ability to purchase).

I'm hoping to see the first Mac Silicon. Curious about the performance in comparison to Intel.

beyond the design of the products (thinness I’m sure will be prevalent) - designed in Cupertino by Jony Ive (?) is the performance.

I’m expecting 40% battery life under heavy loads to be bragged about the most. Yet we’re all hoping better than AMD ThreadRipper vs Intel chip performance gains in workloads, gaming and processing speed without processor load.

I'm sure they have a good handle on the Release Dates for ALL five by now !

The 5.4" & 6.7" both have a new chassis, but NOT much different than the 5.8" & 6.5" iPhone 11 models from which they derive.

The 6.1" iPhone 12 Pro gets a display update, & very-likely slimmer borders, but that's NOT a significant design change from the 6.1" iPhone 12.

The points-to-display factor changes for that model from 2x to 3x, which will affect some software out of the gate.

I've heard two rumors over the past few weeks that have caught my attention:

1.) The chassis for the two NON-Pro models is made out of Aluminum.

2.) The two Pro models won't come out till mid/late-Oct.

To this date, the 6 GB of LPDDR5 in the two Pro models is the most-important product attribute of ALL five that simply has NOT received its just Press / Rumor time ! ... it has been Off the Radar of most, but should NOT be ! ... it will provide a very nice "automatic" Performance Boost to those Ready-to-Go CPU-based High-Perf apps !

Very specifically, High-Perf CPU-based apps that currently ONLY run extremely well in the three iPhone 11 models, will see an automatic 20% OR so Perf Boost on the two NON-Pro models !

IMO, the 6.1" iPhone 12 Pro could be the one to get this year !

My recent / current iPhones: 7+ -> XR -> 11 Pro Max

Of the three, I thought the 6.1" XR was right-sized.

beyond all this I just hope the UI is much faster navigating and results shown when selections or actioning. Transitions are becoming noticeably slow and thus makes the end user slow in doing work. Say what we all will of Android but the speed of which they do things form settings to menu to change apps to notifications shown and dismissed is much faster :( I don’t want Android at all but I want a faster UI which I thought was to happen with iOS 7 yet it was slower than 6 to me.

Just speculating based-upon some research today, but I believe the two Pro models are being pushed-out alittle because Apple is waiting on Sony to ramp-up production of their IMX686 64 Mpx 0.8um image sensor.

The Data Rate off the image sensor is key to whether it will do what both Apple needs it to (capture a burst of photos & then post-process in the ISP), as well as third-party camera apps !

I personally think Apple should have stuck with a 12 Mpx image sensor, & increased the pixel size as much as possible, as well as the isolation between pixels.

If Apple does in-deed go with the IMX686, then the pixel size for the Back Wide Camera drops from 1.4um to 0.8um, but with binning, will produce a 16 Mpx image with an effective 1.6 um pixel size (theoretically, of course).

Should improve low-light photos.

Burst Photography Capture Performance is TBD; if it takes a hit, the 11, 11 Pro, & 11 Pro Max will ALL become EXTREMELY valuable !

ALSO, different subject, it appears ALL five iPhone 12 models might get 6 GB of DRAM (makes perfect sense if ALL of the iPhone 12 models get the 64 Mpx image sensor).

It's NOT common knowledge, but Apple "throttles" malloc() & free() ops !

I.e., memory allocation & DE-allocation.

They did NOT used to do this, but started doing so (just) a few years ago !

ONLY App Devs who work at the lowest-level of iOS know about this !

It would NEVER have happened under Steve Jobs, but it is what it is !

Honestly, at this I’m tired of waiting lol

I already have my new Verizon account set up and money in my account for the 12 Pro Max to preorder through Apple. I might put a preorder through for Verizon at the same time and cancel whichever order haven’t been shipped. I’m so excited!!!!

I don't think there will be a September event this year, Apple will probably hold an online only event (just like WWDC) in October. They don't need to send out invites and get the press to a physical place this time.
