The Financial Times reports that it has received word that Apple has scheduled a special media event for Tuesday, January 26th in San Francisco. The event will reportedly be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, site of the company's music-focused events held each fall in recent years.
The company has rented a stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for several days in late January, according to people familiar with the plans.

Apple is expected to use the venue to make a major product announcement on Tuesday, January 26th. Both YBCA and Apple declined to comment.
The topic of next month's rumored media event is currently unknown, although rumors have been flying today about Apple's tablet device plans, with a report claiming that Apple has asked several iPhone application developers to prepare their apps for demonstration on a larger screen device sometime next month.

Smart move Apple!!

Google comes out with the googlephone Jan. 5th. while CES is Jan. 7th-10th.

This gives Apple the ability to allow all those folks to show their wares then BOOM! Show them what it has.

Vanguard is reporting this as well via Reuters

Just got an email news wire notice from Vanguard. Looks to be also coming in ultimately from the Financial Times as well.

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Apple Inc has reserved space in late January at a venue in San Francisco in advance of a planned product announcement, the Financial Times reported on its blog on Wednesday.

The company has rented a stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and is expected to make a "major product announcement" on Tuesday, Jan. 26, the report said, citing people familiar with the plans.

Apple declined to comment. The Yerba Buena Center could not immediately be reached for comment

The report comes amid mounting excitement about Apple's rumored plans to release a tablet computer. Apple has never confirmed the existence of the device -- which is said to resemble a larger iPhone or iPod touch -- but speculation has been rampant for months.

The FT report did not say whether Apple planned to unveil the tablet at the January event, but some analysts believe the company will launch the device in the spring, possibly in March.

Apple used the Yerba Buena Center last September when it hosted an iPod event that featured the first public appearance by Chief Executive Steve Jobs following his return from medical leave.

Shares of Apple closed up $1.74, or 0.9 percent, at $202.10 on the Nasdaq on Wednesday. (Reporting by Gabriel Madway; Editing by Gary Hill)

Buy the rumor, sell the news!

Say hello to my not so little friend..... MacTouch

So how much is this going to put me out dambit! I have "After-Christmas Sales" money set aside but suspect it won't be enough.

Cant wait for the tablet!! Its not for the MBP's are some people were saying since they will just get a quite update on the website.

I'm looking forward to this at the very least because we can finally be done with all the speculation! I'm tired of all the articles based on no evidence.

Apple did a pretty good job keeping this one under wraps.

This better not be a dissapointment... remember last January when all they announced was iLife and iWork 09? Faces and Places... Whoopi!

Also, lets not forget Apple filmed that secret commercial in a 60's diner last October for an unreleased product... Don't know how a tablet relates to a 60's diner, so maybe it's a different product?
