Apple products keep style in mind. It's no wonder that they're showing up more and more.

I also see Apple products used in more and more commercials, ads and Television, too. I think that's because many behind the scenes in advertising, design, editing, etc. are using Macs more and more :D

Whenever I use a computer in a shot, I always use a Mac. Kind of a shout out :D

That's different! They are consumables and are everywhere!

Laptops aren't - and in a movie, they probably give it some consideration on what to use.
It used to be that they just used whatever was in the nearest office at the time of filming, not much thought went into it at all.

Of course that was when there actually was a thing such as fair use and you didn't have to pay just because a white laptop was seen way back in a scene.

Justin Long

does justin long count because he is a mac in the apple commercials

I was watching Sex and The City (the movie) the other night with the mrs. and was quite staggered at the amount of product placement throughout. It was lieterally everywhere, almost every scene had one form of placement or another. Be it clothes, food, and technology. Macs an iPhones were very apparent, as always. Infact, I rememeber Carrie using a PowerBook G3 many years ago

Mac product placement is ubiquitous in Entourage.

Ari has an iMac in his office. Turtle has a MBP, showing the guys a TMZ video on Safari, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone was featured in season five.

Product Placements are just that. A company pays the studio to place their product in the scene. It's also called advertising and Apple spends a lot on it.

Bragging rights are great if you want to brag about how much money a company spends on advertising.
Not necessarily. If I made a movie, I would pay Apple to let me use their laptops.

History

This statement comes from years ago when a young John Conner was hacking ATM's with an ATARI palmtop in Terminator 2.

It was still true when Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith blew up the mothership in Independence Day.

It's still true today.

they are now appearing on live TV as well... when one of the local television stations went HD here in Boston, they replaced their old PC's that were on the anchor desk with new MacBook Airs, which are very recognizable with their glowing white Apple when they do a wide shot of the anchor desk, and a side shot of the anchor, getting the whole computer in the shot, showing off how thin and sleek the design is.... but unfortunately, all the computers that are used in the newsroom behind the desk are still Dell's

If you look REALLY hard, you'll see that Al Gore uses a MacBook Pro in Inconvenient Truth!

And if you look really, really, REALLY hard, you'll notice that it's really a Powerbook G4.

I'm such a geek that I can tell the difference . . .

Well if you knew anything about directors, you would know a lot of them like to create a world in their films and get really hands on in every aspect of what they paint onto the silver screen. Nothing makes it into my movies without my ok. And yes the set designer and props are going to take care of their duties, but under MY direction

Cinematography is more than just lighting. It is the entire visual aspect of the film and everything in it.

Another aspect of this thread topic I think is interesting is how dominantly any media showing something online almost always shows it in Safari :) It sure has the nicest interface!

Mr. Lucas??

;)

I do notice a lot of Apple product placement in movies, however one place you won't see Macs or other Apple products is in a Columbia/TriStar production. Not surprising since they are owned by Sony. Some of the new Columbia/TriStar films are so full of Sony products it borders on being ridiculous especially when they zoom in on the logo in certain scenes.
