Apple Starts Preparing for September iPhone Event

Waiting eagerly to see the new iPhones, the new colors and the foldable. Expecting significant price hikes too.

That would be cool, and they can finally use the theater again. They made this theater in honor of the founder of the company and because of bad timing, they stopped using it, at least publicly. Having this new era of Apple in the theater named for it's most famous employee feels like good PR and goodwill.

They use it for journalists to watch the prerecorded video.

I'll be the first one to admit it. Since the event should be the week of the 9th, pre orders should start on the following Friday 9/11.

At which time I will be at my computer with whatever I need in hand to order a new 18PM in whatever they're calling that shade of cherry color they're going to offer.

I'm one of those rubes that gets a new phone every year. I missed out last year for. Reasons. Let's just say I wasn't in a position to be where it would be delivered. Anyway, this year I will certainly get a new one. my 16PM is OK but man, does it like to heat up.

And I just want a new one. Is it a waste of money? Sure, I guess. I really don't care.

Hé are you my clone? 😂 Similar! Ditto! 👍🏼. My SO has the 17PM and it is significantly cooler than my 16PM. I don't know yet which one to go for... I like the idea of a foldable, but do I need my 4X tele more than a bigger screen? 😅🧐

I know Apple would never do it, but man wouldn’t it be cool for them to hold an event on Tuesday, September 1, and it be their first in person live event since 2019? The day John becomes the CEO? Where they announced the biggest change to their biggest products form factor since its original introduction?
I mean, talk about making a splash…

How far in advance do they film the presenters? Editing makes the transitions seamless, but I know with WWDC there was like 20 different presenters. That can't all be done in such a small period of time.

I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s already filmed and almost done in post. They will have been doing the product visuals for a while. Then the sound mix and finishing. It’s a chunky process for a long presentation.

I wouldn't be surprised either. I bought a 17 Pro about a month ago because of the price updates they did on other products. I didn't want to have to pay even more for an 18 Pro. I was upgrading from a 12 Pro, so still a decent jump. But they gained a 17 Pro Sale and lost an 18 Pro sale from me.

Looking forward to the fold-a-phone reveal. It’ll be interesting to see what it can do (can it run iPad apps? Two iPhone apps at the same time? Enquiring minds want to know).

For sure. This could either be a game changer device for me, or a waste of money.

A good friend of mine who's an Android user kept the Google folding phone for a year but went back to a standard phone for this year's go around. He said it was cumbersome to use, the crease, despite being advertised as minimal, was distracting, and that most apps weren't optimized for either the larger screen and it caused some issues. I don't know more details than that, but safe to say he won't be going back to a foldable any time soon.

I really hope Apple has done their homework on this one.

Doubt it, at least in the US. Just read T-Mobile is offering $0 down (no taxes, nothing upfront), 36 month financing to keep payments low ahead of this new iPhone. Then with the other carriers and the leasing program I can see them still getting record sales. I think some overestimate how much Americans care about the total price of things. It's all about the monthly payments.

Worst? Sales would have to fall quite a bit to be lower than they were during the first 5-6 years or so of the iPhone. That's not going to happen.
