Spin it however you want, the iMac is on the podium of the "most value in a computer for the price" on the market, PCs included.

Let's see if it can hold that perception when Apple reveals the new iMac Pro pricing.

I fully agree with you about old iMac 27" pricing. But this rumor involves the "PRO" tag and ASD by itself is already established at the old iMac "starting at" pricing. Adding a whole Mac inside + keyboard + mouse and making the screen bigger seems like pricing would have to take a great (Apple Inc.) leap from the value pricing we used to know. TBD.

A 32" iMac "Pro" would make me switch from the Mac Studio, especially if it had a decent amount of TB ports on it and ran quickly and quietly. Dream scenario - 32" 6K OLED Monitor / M4 / 64GB Ram / 2TB Storage / 6 TB ports... Probably around $6K.

Where are all my iMac lovers at!?

I look forward to a bigger display iMac to be introduced to the Apple ecosystem again.
(and hope it has touch screen)

With introduction of OLED iPad pro’s, my first thought was this could be Apple’s argument for a Pro iMac lineup return, which features the latest tech and differentiate it from the 24” iMac display.

If Apple goes pro, I hope they’ll have two size options 27” and a larger variant. Myself I would prefer the 27” size, a great middle ground size, not too big nor small, and let the other option be available for those who wish for it.

Ultra wide would actually be 34” and have the same height as a 27”. I don’t think there are any panels in that space that are 4K, much less the 5 or 6K needed for Apple’s Super Retina moniker.

Long-term iMac user here. When it was last time to upgrade, I knew for certain that I no longer wanted another "throw baby out with the bathwater" iMac (guts die or are made obsolete by corporate choice means a perfectly good monitor/speakers/etc must get tossed too), so I shopped around and came upon a 40" 5K2K Ultra-wide from Dell. To my perfectly-fine eyes, resolution is just as good as my former iMac 27"... EXCEPT now there is substantially more horizontal R.E. for windows/apps. I could never go back to any 16:10 screen now: 27" or 32".

Separates addresses the "throw baby out" problem when AAPL obsoletes the Silicon Mac currently attached to it. Having multiple inputs solves the "no more bootcamp" issues too by attaching a Mac Mini-like PC to input #2 (no, ARM Windows is not full Windows). And instead of coming with only a couple of ports of 1 type, this one comes with a substantial hub of many common use (in 2024) ports...

Anyone interested in a hypothetical iMac ultra-wide but going the separates way should give it a look. There's some good reviews on YouTube and similar and it costs less than ASD with stand option.

Only makes sense if it can be used as a standalone monitor after the computer reaches EOL.

Otherwise it's a waste of a good screen long-term (and not exactly A+ green credibility).
Would love to see the smaller Mac Mini rumor dovetail with a new larger iMac Pro. What if the iMac Pro has a replaceable computer cutout? Keep the screen, replace the computer.

They’ve got the speakers dialed in. Especially in a larger size. They’ll make them so good even they wouldn’t be able to beat them for a decade. They’ll have the retina. What if they can manage to get tandem OLED into this? If they can achieve the same variable refresh rate capability range it’ll keep it relevant for everyone but the most obsessive gamers.

I've been holding out as long as possible for a larger version of the iMac to be released since the AS transition started and the old 27" iMac was discontinued.

With the rumours suggesting the Mac mini is going to get a redesign and shrink in size to around that of an AppleTV, I'm going to bite the bullet and go with that and a Studio Display when it gets launched hopefully later this year.

Depending on the size lot the new mini, I'm sure a third party will make an accessory to mount it to the back of a display somehow, making it the closest 27" iMac owners can get to a large screen all-in-one Mac powered by AS.

If Apple can get the refined Mac Mini powered by USB-C/power delivery then I would have thought a Studio Display or XDR display + Mac Mini would provide a solution for a large chunk of the people who want a larger iMac. Perhaps there could even be a magsafe-like way of attaching such a Mini to the back of the display. This would give a system with M4 or M4 Pro chip that still only has a single power cable and an upgradable Mac system connected to the display with a single cable.

I'd rather have a thicker iMac than another one with a chin. However, given the new iPad Pro, it should be possible to make a baller, ultra thin, no-chin iMac.

And if they did, the Apple "magic" could come in the form of MagSafe XL ... It comes with default stand, but you can swap out for wall mounts, vesa mounts, 3rd party stands, etc....🤔

I was interested in an iMac with a larger screen. But now I settled with a (admittedly sub-par) 32 inch 4K external display and a Mac mini. The combo works ok. What I miss most are the excellent speakers and decent mic. The way things have developed recently, I also don't think that a larger iMac would be very affordable. North of 5K Euros would not surprise me at all. Too much for my budget.

Still using my 27 inch iMac. The Mac Studio+Studio display is overpriced along with being the wrong form factor. I left Dell because I liked Apple’s large screen all in one iMac.

By eliminating the large screen iMac, Apple has killed my reason for buying a second computer.

Without a reasonably priced large screen iMac, I will forget buying a new desktop computer. If I am going to be stuck with a box and cables, I will just use my existing Macbook Pro 16.

I can connect my MBP to a bluetooth keyboard/mouse and a 3rd party monitor and have about the same mess of cables as a Mac Mini or Mac studio.

For my parents the 24 inch iMac is fine. Apple Silicon hasn’t been so hot for me.

Rumor of a bigger iMac pops up every few months since Apple stopped selling the 27” iMac in March 2022. Unfortunately this isn’t something I can see Apple launching. There a few reasons for this. Laptops comfortably outsell desktop so the market for iMacs isn’t that big to start with. Also Apple probably makes more money selling a studio display with a Mac min/studio, so there’s little incentive to launch another 27” iMac. Finally going beyond 27” means using a 6k or 7k screen to maintain retina scaling, neither of which are common screen resolutions. This will push the price up, especially if you want to add HDR. As a previous user of 27” iMacs, it is poor that the options are limited but unless you want to switch to Windows, we are stuck with what Apple offers.
