Apple: *continues developing as planned, some hickups here and there as with all projects

Rumors: *They'll launch under screen camera next year*
Rumors 1 week later: *They hit snags!*
Rumors 2 weeks later: *They'll be live in 2028!*
Rumors 1 month later: *They are back on track!*

I don't mind the dynamic island, its the phone structure that bugs me more - hoping they can reduce the size of the device by bringing the edges closer to the screen. The DI is helpful sometimes when you're trying to jump back to music or podcasts and nav at the same time by placing the icons in the DI.

I just continue to feel that Apple should have gone the under-screen sonic fingerprint sensor route years ago. They are lightning fast and never fail me. Pixel even combines this with secure facial recognition using just the selfie cam, which works about as well as FaceID as long as you are in good light. Then all they need to work on is making the camera under display, a much simpler challenge. Nubia has done a decent job with the 16MP under-display selfie cam on their RedMagic phones. It's still not great, but it is far better than Samsung had done with the 4MP on the Z Fold 6.

I would pay substantially more to get rid of the stupid interruptions in the UI/display. Especially where it really makes the iPhone look stupid and worse than almost any competing device. One benefit of the MBN is there’s no stupid notch ruining the user experience.

That screen does indeed look good but I am genuinely in the "who cares" camp. We lose 2% of screenspace?
I found my old iPhone 5 the other day during a house clearout and I miss my phone being so small, what a perfect and beautiful looking device.

So if the 20th aniv model in 2027 is frameless, it will still have a smaller dynamic island at the top

From what you describe, this would not be the penultimate apple experience. And hence a no-go for apple.

“Affordably priced…” Hmm, that’s an interesting new development. Of course, that would mean “affordably priced” for Apple, so what are we thinking now?
Only 25 bucks per month for its expected lifetime of seven years, amortized.

I believe even if they could do it all at once they wouldn’t. Apple seems to find incremental updates preferable to drastic change thus spurring sales.

How horrible chasing bottom line is compared to Apple of years past.

Hitting snags
Unexpected delays
Difficulties
Challenges
Obstacles

We're tired of your ****, Tim.
Would I blow your mind if I told you that pretty much every company that develops any product hits unexpected delays, difficulties, challenges, and obstacles in the process?

Do you have any idea how much stuff gets developed by companies that *never* ships?

I’ve worked in R&D, the amount of money spent on things that get shelved, for reasons ranging from viability, to IP concerns, to supply chain issues, to QC worries, to insurmountable problems, to even an exec simply not liking the idea, etc is astronomical.

You just dont obsessively read rumors and leaks about most companies, unlike those of us here at MR do about Apple.

Okay, you have a good point. Apple is under the microscope for us, and we don't find out about every little thing other companies do or don't do.

That's what I want the iPhone to be: One big slab of screen. No notch, no bezels, invisible Dynamic Island. I think it can be done in my lifetime. Come on, Apple!

While other companies appear to have 'solved these issues', how about Apple incorporate a power button Touch ID (its already on the iPad), a narrow 'island' to house the FaceID and camera sensors and we do not need an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. On the other privacy slide, the Samsung screen privacy is very slick - downside is the screen brightness is not that great but I am confident Apple could make it work!

You know how the iPad doesn't have any screen interruptions for FaceID.....

Just saying they could squash it into a marginally thicker top-bezel if they liked or make the top corners of the phone sharper to hide the smaller array in.

Or just put a fingerprint scanner into the camera control button.
