Apple Still Planning 'Glass-Centric' iPhone Redesign for 2027

The way people and media have gone on, they honestly thought we'd get some all glass phone from the future.

It was always going to be a modernised iPhone X and the current 17 pro/18 Pro were always just a cheap stop gap after falling sales of the 15/16 Pro using the same design for 6 years.

If one DOES show up, it will be from an Android manufacturer that can only produce a few hundred thousand in the first year it’s on sale. Then, by the time the screen manufacturers are good at it, they’ll be able to produce them in numbers that Apple would need (10’s of millions) to introduce it in theirs.

Anyone looking at the iPhone X (and the fact that Apple doesn’t do “anniversary editions”) and thinking that it’s going to be anything more than another iterative revision has their rose colored Apple Vision Pro’s on.

next year is going to be a saga and loads of reports until it happens. does sound like 7 inch will happen by reducing the bezels. will be interesting how it looks given the design.

They're nuts. It looks like my old iPhone XS. The only phone where I managed to break the glass by dropping it. All my other phones were dropped with the same frequency but the ugly non rounded metal edge protected the glass.

I still have my XS (now on loan to my brother), and I think I dropped it three times onto hard ceramic tile in the bathroom (while still getting used to holding the curved edge design, after having an iPhone 4S for a while), and one of the drops managed to break off a very tiny chip of the display glass off of one corner, not even enough to think much about. YMMV!

My guess is that Apple won't skimp on drop impact protection in the design of any of their upcoming iPhones, keeping to their approach with the 17 series of sacrificing some greater likelihood of cosmetic damage (the aluminum body) while protecting the functionality of the iPhone itself, so it keeps running and doesn't come flying apart. It's still hard to say though how the rumored curved edge display can hold up to a direct impact on a hard surface.
