I don't know what's more laughable: The wheels for $699 or the chrome feet for $299.

While the majority of Apple's product lineup has been updated over the past few years, there are a handful of devices and accessories that are quite old. Below, we highlight seven of the oldest and most obscure products that Apple still sells in 2024.

Many of these products are unlikely to be updated ever again, and it's unclear how long Apple will continue to sell them on its online store.

SuperDrive

8-Old-SuperDrives.jpg

Introduced alongside the original MacBook Air in 2008, the USB SuperDrive is an external CD/DVD drive. It remains available on Apple's online store for $79, but you'll need a USB-A to USB-C adapter to use it with a modern MacBook.

The last MacBook with a built-in CD/DVD drive was discontinued in 2016.

MagSafe Converter

8-Old-MagSafe-Adapters.jpg

For just $9.99, you can own Apple's tiny MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter. This adapter allows Apple's very-old Thunderbolt Display to charge an also-very-old MacBook Pro or MacBook Air equipped with a MagSafe 2 connector.

For those counting, Apple moved on to MagSafe 3 in 2021.

EarPods With 3.5mm Plug

8-Old-EarPods-With-3.5mm-Plugs.jpg

Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone starting with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus back in 2016, but it continues to sell wired EarPods with a 3.5mm headphone plug for $19. You can also get EarPods with Lightning or USB-C.

Hey, Macs still have a headphone jack.

30-Pin to USB Cable

8-Old-30-Pin-Connectors.jpg

Still rocking out with an older iPod or iPhone? Apple has you covered with its 30-pin to USB cable, featuring breakthrough USB 2.0 technology from the early 2000s.

Pro tip: you can get one for much cheaper on Amazon if you really need one.

Mac Pro Security Lock Adapter

Want to keep your 2013 Mac Pro secure in 2024? Apple's $49 adapter lets you attach a compatible Kensington lock to the computer.

We're honestly surprised Apple still sells this one.

Link Bracelet

Apple hasn't updated the stainless steel Link Bracelet since the original Apple Watch was released in 2015. The band is still listed in its original 38mm and 42mm sizes for $449, and it no longer perfectly matches the colors of some newer Apple Watch models.

Mac Pro Wheels

For the low price of $699, you can add wheels to your 2019 or newer Mac Pro tower, allowing it to roll around. Or, you could install them on a skateboard.

There's also a Mac Pro feet kit for $299 in this economy.

Super drive ancient?? EXCUSE me macrumors but unless you are wiling to pay for all my DVDS to be moved to digital I still will have a super drive! I bought one in 2020 and will keep it until it breaks. When it does break I will buy another.

The superdrive was always weird because it required more power than normal, so doesn't really work everywhere. I just found my mom's old drive and it refused to work on my MBP M1, even with PD going through the hub. Works fine on her old Mac, though.

I still have 2 Superdrives and they are still regularly being used.
And they need to be as they so easily gum up with lack of use. I've still got my 2009 MBP and that has gone through numerous drives, actually it's time to get it replaced again. The last of the G5 iMacs (I no longer have) also went through a few in warranty period. But that kept CD's whereas the MBP rather regurgitated them at all costs.

Really wish they would update it for Blu-ray. But Apple seems to hate Blu-ray for some reason. Optical media in general. And now that they make so much money on streaming they hate local storage in general.
I'd like that too but I'd be shocked if they did it. If they didn't do it when Blu-ray was much more popular I don't see them doing it now.

Lol.

Until the watch connection mechanism changes, what is there to do?

is like saying that shops are still selling bread and milk and implying this is some sort of problem.

What makes it better than the better specced and cheaper off brand alternatives?
Nothing really as it basically reads and writes data.
I've had my SuperDrive for many years and still works like a charm.
A friend of mine got a cheaper brand on Amazon and it stopped working after just a few uses.

I got a better Asus one about 14 years ago for 1/4 of the price of the Apple drive... it is plastic rather than metal, though.

I’ve always hated that Apple Watch Link Bracelet. The price is absurd and it looks like something my grandfather would’ve worn in the 60s.

That's a good thing. Doesn't hurt anyone to have old accessoires available. I personally still use the 30-pin cable and if those last two cables I have ever break it will be great to find a brand new one in stock at every major retailer. Not sure how this is in any way newsworthy.
you have to think of it from another person’s perspective. yes, you and likely many other people still have the need for 30-pin cables.

however, it has been 12 years since Apple switched to Lightning. billions of devices sold with Lightning and USB-C since then.

the vast majority of folks do not have 30-pin devices. it may not be “BREAKING NEWS”, but it’s definitely surprising to see certain things being sold when we’re so far from when they were relevant. that’s all.

Having the 30-pin cable still available to buy is useful to collectors.
I wish I was the type to collect lol. I really hate clutter and unnecessary things, but respect those that keep really old devices and fire them up from time to time.

I keep the iPhone boxes themselves, but that’s about it in terms of holding onto anything old.

Earpods are not forgettable to those who prefer a wired connection! Still use them every day with my mac, iphone. Comfortable, they go all day, with no need to worry about charging ever. Simple and convenient.

And why shouldn't they still be sold? Some of us prefer to have and continiue to use older equipment and haver healthier 401ks ans IRAs.
I would really hope buying a phone in the last ten years versus staying on an iPhone 4S would have no impact on your retirement...

Oof we consider the Apple Watch Link Bracelet old? Lol I only just finally bought one last year…
It’s still one of their best design bands, specifically the space black I have my original band from first generation and it’s mint because of the DLC coating.

The SuperDrive is still useful, not gonna lie. I still have almost all my old recordings on CD - six spindles worth of CDs I burned back in the day. Never heard of (or used) the MagSafe Converter, the 30-pin to USB cable, or the Mac Pro Security Lock Adapter though.
