Apple may choose to not do anything with respect to prices in the near-term until current stock in the USA has dwindled and, perhaps by then, there will be a clearer picture as to when whether the import tariffs will ever be lifted or reduced.
Fixed that for you.

Vietnam is planning to eliminate all tariffs. China just increased their tariffs. Countries friendly to the United States will work it out and negotiate. Countries not friendly will dig in exacerbate the problem. China is not a friendly country and Apple produces over 80% of its products there. So, that's on Apple's risk management.
They said that was before we added a new tariff to them, guessing now they will not be removing them.

I believe it's time Apple to move their headquarters/space-saucer to Europe.
Yes, they already have a strong base here in Ireland (since 1980) with over 6,000 employees. We’d love to have more and more Apple fielders here this giving direct access to both the EU and the EFTA! Most of us speak English fluently and have a moderately good education. (Is there anything else I could add to make this even more sycophantic or grovelling?).

I don’t really understand trade so maybe I’m missing something, but…

If the US raises tariffs on all of the countries, and all of the countries raise tariffs back on the US but not on each other… How is that a good thing for the US exactly? Surely they’ll all just trade with each other more and cut the US out?

Exactly. But the US is a big market to cut off. So in the end everybody loses.
It’s all just mindblowingly stupid and unnecessary.

The US gov needs a big reform because voting an idiot in the White House is one thing. But the fact there are no more checks and balances is something else.

How would that help with an import tax?
Well, the rest of the world wouldn't be boycotting them for being American, they would have economic stability, they could make long term plans without fear of random new laws appearing overnight and their costs would go down because their raw materials wouldn't be subject to tariffs, for a start.

If facts were on your side I would agree with you but they aren’t. The tariffs do work and you will see that fair tariffs can work for everyone. The current tariff structure has worked for everyone else but the US. The initial bump on tariffs during Trumps first term worked for the US and stuck through the Biden admin because they actually did work. We all know he would have removed them if they didn’t.
But I keep reading about how economists are saying that tariffs are terrible and they played a big part in the Great Depression. Are you sure?

Maybe companies should quit overly relying on China for cheap everything. Wouldn’t be in this predicament if they didn’t sell out for a quick buck, euro, pound, etc
If only we’d realised that 20+ years ago. Too late now, even if the factories could be built quickly enough, the skills have gone. And that’s the whole western world, not blaming the U.S. for wanting cheap stuff.

Any of you who are defending Trump who aren't also top 1% folks

You (and I) are getting bent over and screwed

Wake up and stop defending your own screwing
Aye. Anyone remember the Twilight Zone episode (Button, Button) where a man visits a couple and leaves a box with a button on it. He tells them if they push the button they will get $1M. But someone you don't know dies. It is supposed to be a moral dilemma: are you willing to sacrifice someone for $1M?

Guess what? It's happening right now. And those rich bastard billionaires are mashing away at the button like there's no tomorrow.😡

Edit: Sorry, amount is $200,000 not $1M. How that for insult to injury.

Technically the iPhone is not a US import as it’s mostly made in China so I don’t know if these Chinese tariffs will apply to Apple.

I dunno.

I've heard too many times from the news that "Trump is doing (X)" and (insert catastrophe here) is going to happen, and then maybe 10% of what I was told was going to happen actually happens. I'm inclined to wait a bit before I get my nickers in a bunch over all of this.

IMHO 6 months from now all of this will have blown over one way or another. I am in the new car market right now, so personally I'm a little miffed by all the uncertainty but my life has been nothing BUT uncertainty the past 18 months. Uncertainty much more dire than this business, so forgive me if I don't think the sky is falling or anything.

I'm not a big fan of all the changes. But it does seem like Trump is evil genus hell bent on destruction and total idiot all in one breath. The press gave Bush 43 the same treatment. I don't think you can be both at the same time IMHO.

I know a lot of people have burning white hot hate for Trump. OK, I get it. But the more people go from zero to nuclear catastrophe over everything he does, the less inclined I am to believe it until I see it.

I think Apple has the opportunity to do the funniest thing... raising prices on all their products, especially iPhones. Since most of the country buys them, this price increase will surely cause outrage on the average American consumer and cause additional pressure on Trump to cave.
I predict many companies will be raising their prices, blaming tariffs even if it isn’t the cause, and then never lowering them even if the tariffs are removed. Like all the price hikes during Covid they all tried to blame on inflation, and never lowered even after it was proven to be false.

Don't blame all of this on Trump. He has a cadre of willing co-sonspirators: the GOP in Congress.

Well, time for consumers to get a backbone and boycott, boycott and boycott.
