I would have like the gray in the small keyboard and a trackpad, but I'm happy I got the silver keyboard and trackpad for my M1 MacBook Pro. They are quite good and don't have anything that feels dated about them. Well...there is an eject key.....but still, they are quite good. Classic Apple, just can't change the etching on the eject key.

New rounded Pro version with Touch ID coming to match an Apple Silicon iMac Pro in Space Grey?

Also what about the Space Grey intel Mac mini that's still on sale - doesn't that deserve some colour matching love?

Tim is there to count pennies not provide leadership. Once the transition to Apple silicon is complete there will naturally be some coherence again. In the meantime things will occasionally be out of sync as different departments move at different speeds.

A very small part of me hopes this indicates an attempt to clear the way for a new take on "space grey" - that will debut in the next MBP iteration.
A medium-sized part of me thinks that maybe they're going away from space grey.
The largest part of me thinks I have absolutely no clue about any of Apple's plans.

I always wished they would make the small Magic Keyboard in Space Gray. Kind of a weird omission. Oh well.
Doesn't seem weird at all. They included the extended keyboard with the computer. Why waste the money producing a smaller one in a color only available for one machine if you've already included the other version with the machine? It'd be a large extra cost for very few sales in return.

Hopefully the bigger iMac embraces the dark side and this is just a way to make room for the new Magic Accessories with TouchID. But I don’t think this theory holds up with the mouse and Trackpad?

Are we expecting space gray to disappear as a color option in the 2021 MBPs and/or iPhones? Hope not. Just bought a 2021 iPad Pro in space gray.

Picked up a couple of the Space Gray keyboards but the mouse was a problem in search of a solution. Hopefully the next mouse design will have a charging port in a more convenient place and be more comfortable in the hand, they could also stand to run it past their Accessibility Support group since the last version apparently eluded them.

I'm thinking that any new keyboards will have the more rounded corners, meh. Trackpads have always seemed like a gimmick, but that just might be me and the bad experiences I've had with laptops.

I'm confused by this post since the keyboard in question had black key caps. Did you buy it?
I'm speaking about the silver aluminium with black caps (and backlit) keyboard sold with the Mac Pro.

I like silver Macs, but dislike white keycaps as they get dirty. I use my MBP with a large monitor, and my keyboard is often out of reach. I just want an OEM keyboard that matches my MBP.

These looked nice enough but I was always put off by the fact that Apple charged about £20 more just for a colour change. Hopefully the new iMac mouse and Touch ID keyboard will be available to purchase separately soon in all colours!

It's just tradition:

apple has charged more for black for a while. no point in stopping now.
