And just how long do you think you can all live in the past?
What does this mean? Sounds like you're lumping all the critics into the "don't like change" crowd. Change is good. Change is necessary, but when changed is forced, change should be considered. I would argue that Liquid Glass is not even forward thinking but a lazy nostalgic regression. Just on the issue of accessibility and clarity alone it's an enormous step back from all the hard work Apple has done in recent years. While there are some nice enhancements through other input modes they have been gimped through the new GUI.

they dont . They ‘bring up’ most downloaded stat when talking about which iOS is the most downloaded. Dont project your incorrect assumption that most downloaded = great or popular

And what are they inferring when they say "most downloaded"?

(that's it's great and people love it, which is why they are downloading it and using it!)

Don't project your incorrect defense of a 3 trillion dollar mega corp that gaslights its users.

They aren’t inferring anything! Inferences if any are drawn by you the reader. Feel free draw to them incorrectly. Go and show me where they said what you are claiming. I’ll wait.

Is wanting to stay on a more mature OS after the release of a new major release until the new release has bugs worked out "living in the past"? It's actually very smart. Wanting to try it out is also smart but for Apple to give users 1-7 days before there is no return is ridiculous. I believe it's just to show some great numbers of people on iOS 26 (actually forced and stuck on iOS 26). In any case, it feels like a trap.
You gonna end up running ios 26 sooner or later. Just do it now and stop whining about it. An esteemed mac forums poster as yourself will not let the opportunity to install the latest and greatest, even if it takes until ios27 until u do. Good luck with your outsated OS. We’re (everyone in the world running latets ios26) all over here yoo hoo!

This is why I upgraded to iOS 18.7 and iPadOS 18.7 instead of iOS 26.0/iPadOS 26.0. I'll let the others "take the arrows" until the first real bug fix for iOS 26.x arrives, hopefully with iOS/iPadOS 26.0.1 by the end of September or early October 2025.

The latest ≠ the greatest. Does something become great because it's merely new?

Sorry @DEMinSoCAL you're going to take this iOS26 update and you're going to like it. Your phone, their choice.

Very funny.

I won’t obliterate my iOS devices, thank you very much.

That said however, I partly agree in spirit: as I mentioned earlier, if you update, it’s on you.

Most members here have way too much experience with iOS to keep falling for iOS updates expecting perfection.

If you update, expect garbage and go up from there. Why is it so difficult to stay behind? The yearly dance of “I update everything I have without exception and then complain about it” will never work.

I update and for the most part, things have just worked. I find a battery bank is less taxing than attempting to keep your phone on the initial release for a multitude of reasons of mentioned in past posts.

Would it kill Apple to leave the last of the previous OS version active and available as a rollback for the life of the current version release? Its not like the older release isn't getting security updates. This just smacks of a company not confident enough in their new product and fearful a large number of customers will after a time reject it if they have an option to go back.
yes, they'd have ty backport security fixes etc which eats into profits

It's a major cluster **** of a release! Apple needs to replace their entire software team as innovation is deader than a door bell.
That would be like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, but yea the tieam needs a bit of a shakup, especially in management, you know the once that actually signed off on the release, the buc stops with them as they say, or at least it should

Without the option to downgrade, there's no way in hell I'll risk upgrading on my iPhone.

On my iPad I actually created a backup on iOS 18 and one on iOS 26, but the more recent one overwrote the older one without asking. So yeah, well done Apple that definitely makes sense.

What happens to iPhone that only support iOS 18, do those not get to reinstall iOS 18 either?

That's a horrible analogy because the Apple executives were on cocaine!

Damn, I had ios26 for only 2 days and was thinking of downgrading. I can't say I'm a fan of the Liquid Glass. It's a cool effect, but not practical from a UI standpoint because of contrast issues. Making objects circular is becoming a problem too as text is getting cut off etc.

The only thing I like from the new UIs is that iOS26 has fixed the incredibly narrow space bar in the keyboard so.now.i'm.not.typing.like.this.anymore.

Simple configure Your device not to update automatically. And dont update it until .1 or .2 whatever. Do u really need apple to do Everything for you?
Well actually yes. If you have bothered to read the rest of this thread, you would have known I’m still at 18.7. I also installed the profile to prevent iPadOS26 from showing up as update.

It’s like you have exactly 1 week to test the OS and decide to go back if (for some reason) the switch flipped to “Automatically update YES”. My wife definitely forgot that option and now some of her apps don’t work as well. Spend another day installing all over again. But hey: Apple is great! Don’t criticize Apple! Apple the best. Peace out.
