The Apple Store app will use a facial scan to provide customers with information on the correct Vision Pro component sizes they need to order, according to code found by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris. The Vision Pro requires an appropriately sized Light Seal and Head Band in order to operate as intended.

"You may scan your face to determine your size for Apple Vision Pro," reads code in the Apple Store app.

Apple has already been using a Head Measure and Fit app to help developers testing the Vision Pro to find their correct sizes, so it sounds like similar functionality will be built directly into the App Store. Light Seals and Head Bands come in several sizes, and the option to use a scan to determine a size suggests that customers will not need to visit an Apple retail store to determine the right fit. A facial scan is likely to be part of the process of ordering the Vision Pro online.

The Vision Pro will ship with both a Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band, the latter of which has a second strap that goes over the head to more evenly distribute weight. A Light Seal and two Light Seal Cushions are included as well. Customers who need prescription lens inserts from ZEISS will be able to import their prescriptions from the Health app or upload their prescription.

Code also suggests that Apple may allow the Vision Pro to be engraved, but it is not clear where an engraving might be able to be located.

Apple plans to launch the Vision Pro on Friday, February 2, but pre-orders for the device will begin on Friday, January 19 at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

This is a pretty good way to handle the sizing. It won't be perfect, people who don't have a good fit will likely have to go to the nearest Apple Store to handle a swap for different size items. I would expect Apple to sell this stuff in a kit as well, so that families can share the Vision Pro...there's a lot of iCloud integration so people will have to change accounts or use the owner's. At least I hope Apple has thought through this use case, they may want families to buy multiples of these but that just is not going to happen until they make cheaper units. If they haven't thought through sharing headsets, then be prepared for a lot of complaints.

OK, so you can't share it with other family members?
I imagine that the light seal will be available in different sizes as a separate accessory as well. Maybe not at launch but soon after? The logistics of all this are always intriguing to ponder until Apple reveals the actual procedures.

Does everyone remember back when we learned that the included Apple Watch Sport band would fit two sizes, but it was misinterpreted as two separate bands instead of the actual three pieces that allowed two sizes?

I think it really is under stated how hard it’s going to be to market these things when they try to go mass market. You could see and understand someone using an iPhone by them showing it to you. Doesn’t seem like that’s going to be the case for the Vision Pro. I’m still optimistic but concerned.

This is why I don’t understand all the people expecting to flip their purchase for a profit. You’d have to find a buyer who is not only the same size as you… but also who understands and believes that they’re the same size. How could anyone be assured of the right fit if immediately buying on the reseller market?

I hope this deters some of those immoral flip-for-a-profiteers.

I mean, as long as the one who bought it and the one who wants to try it on have similar head/face dimensions then it should be ok.

my thing is that they better allow you to do the sizing BEFORE preorders open up lol.
I hope so cause I don’t want to lose the opportunity to preorder because the app/site got stuck loading my head size.

Yup. With iPhone pre orders, you could use the Apple Store app on your iPhone or iPad to configure the iPhone (storage, color, payment, etc) and quickly place your pre-order when the store opened. I certainly hope the same will be done with the AVP.

We need the various measurements of the straps, etc. to be determined before ordering with this app.

Amount of memory/storage (if there are options).

Eyeglass prescription. Very importantly we need to know the focal distance of the AVP. I suspect it will be similar to other VR devices, with a far correction at about 5 to 6 feet. Apple really needs to get this info out right away. I set up an appointment with the optometrist next week to get the latest refraction.
