So why have the 9.7"?

The new 10.5" is just a tad bigger than the 9.7", so it doesn't really make sense to keep them both in the lineup. Maybe Apple will actually be ditching the 9.7" and, contrary to rumors, retain the iPad mini. That way they could suck more people into their ecosystem with a really inexpensive device in their product line.

Basically 9.7 becomes their entry level with the $329 iPad in the lineup. They officially ditched iPad mini line this time, cutting lots of confusions and simplifying things.

Question for the experts... I had a mid 2010 iMac (2.8 i7, 16gb Ram, 1TB HDD)-sorry can't remember the graphics but would the new base 3.4 i5 iMac 27 machines be a major step up in processing power. Would this i5 be a major step up from my 6 year old i7.

assume graphics would be a major leap?
Something doesn't add up from your info:
- iMac late 2009 has one i7: Intel Core i7 860 (Lynnfield) 2.8GHz + ATi Radeon HD 4850
- iMac mid 2010 has one i7: Intel Core i7 870 (Lynnfield) 2.93Ghz + ATi Radeon HD 5750
So you have the mid 2010 iMac or the late 2009?

CPU Comparison (Geekbench results*):
iMac late 2009 with Intel Core i7 860 / iMac mid 2010 with Intel Core i7 870 / iMac i5-7500 (Kaby Lake) 3.4
Single Core Score:
2513 / 2695 / 4420
Multi Core Score:
7349 / 8149 / 12235

GPU Comparison (3DMark results**):
iMac late 2009 with ATi Radeon HD 4850 / iMac mid 2010 with ATi Radeon HD 5750 / iMac i5-7500 with AMD Radeon Pro 570
- / 1370 / 12800**

** AMD Radeon RX 570 should be somewhere in between RX 470 and RX 480

MacBook comes with 256 gigs whereas pro ones starting 128...wtf??

This is why so many Apple die-hard fans hate the company.

Keep in mind that US prices don't include the ~20% VAT that most EU countries impose.
But, your social infrastructure is so much better, so overall better utilization overall!

Probably how a lot of people with 2 to 3-year-old iPads feel at the moment. I think it makes sense to wait until next year when the iPad Pro adopts the new iPhone design, a little smaller/lighter with the same 10.5" display, possibly OLED.
If the iPads adopt the new bezel-less iPhone design (rumored in the iPhone 8), it's gonna be a disaster to hold and use them. You got to have bezels to have a comfortable grip on a tablet this size.

EDIT: read Mac Pro as iMac Pro. Whatever, guess businesses/video studios will need a machine like that. Cool.

It's expensive.

I'd drop the cash on a ginormous Surface Studio waaayy before that.

I know, BUHBUHBUH WINBLOZ. Grow up.

No. You won't! You are an Apple, and you hate Surface already!

Sadly, just basically tweaking their existing product line. It's clear now that innovation died with Steve Jobs.

Not even any new colours. Wow.

Well, in Europe they've increased each configuration by 100€ while the €/$ exchange rate hasn't really changed since October 2016.

That's Trump.
[doublepost=1496713350][/doublepost]
Prices have gotten (even more) ridiculous in Sweden. The base MacBook/MacBook Pro 128 starts at an equivalent of $1790! Crazy!

You've been Trumped.

i need to know what iOS 11 features will not work on iPad Air 2. I am tempted to get one of the 10.5 inch but the keyboard and pen are so expensive on top of it ... i am not gonna spent 179 € on a keyboard.

Well spend a lot less on a bluetooth keyboard. I've got a Belkin that was dirt cheap that I'm using with my iPad Air and it will work fine with this Pro. I think I spent $10 on my keyboard buying it from Meh a daily deal site. But look around and I'm sure you will find something cheap and good.

Pencil though you have to buy from Apple. I don't think a knock off will work as well.

And so Apple killed the whole Mac Pro line with one fell swoop, and replaced it with a souped iMac.

They killed it, threw away its soul, and turned its body into a jukebox.

Damn you.

No. They've been very clear. They had a whole unprecedented meeting about this. A new Mac Pro is coming. The iMac Pro is its own thing. But a modular (meaning it doesn't come with a monitor) Mac Pro is still coming.

I finally can upgrade from my Air 1! Very excited to get the new 10.5. That said, I'm waiting until Verizon gets it in stock so I can use their payment plan and spread out the damage.

I used to use cellular iPads. But the link between iPhone and iPad works so well to give the iPad cellular access that I've been fine with my iPad Air 2 Wifi model. And I've been saving the $15 a month to add it to my Verizon plan. It is an extra step when I need LTE connection on my iPad. But I don't need that at work, home, my GF's apartment, local coffee shops or even some other times because I pickup Time Warner WiFi when on the go often. That covers a lot of scenarios. But the main issue is that I get wifi at work, home and the coffee shops and a few local bars as well. Hotels will also allow me to connect by wifi. Heck even some of my friends homes have a guest network set up.

I have a 10.5 256GB and 12.9" 64GB sitting in my bag, very, very temped to pull the trigger. Just not sure how well it would go over with the wife.

Both! No way you can justify both unless you are giving one to her.

A traditional hard drive is fine for backups but is far too slow to be inside the computer.

Well, modern computers anyway. I'm rocking two 7200's in a G5 right now. It's very fast. ^_^

Well, since most iPads I see lately have a case, that may not be an issue. You have to expect Apple to try whatever they can to stop the current sales slide and a significant redesign is probably the best thing in their arsenal for that.

OK.

Yeah 7200rpm isn't terrible. But I think even Apple says on their site for the MBA that the SSD is 17x faster than a 5400rpm HDD. That's a big difference.

That seems exaggeratory to me. It's not going be a complete disaster. Most will adopt using cases, which will easily serve as a grip for the iPad and assist with the reduced bezels.

Time to get an Intel NUC
Skull canyon rocks !
[doublepost=1496726273][/doublepost]Good to see the MacBook pros and iMacs get updated internals. Feel for people who just bought an MacBook Pro, kinda going to hurt thier resale value, one MacBook Pro most will want to avoid

Not to mention that a 7200 HDD is also typically around 20x cheaper than an SSD. That's a big difference too. ;)

Did I mention how quiet it is? And when the fans go on full blast, it's almost scary. Everything about the G5 just oozes "POWER".

I love this machine.

PS: I forgot this has nothing to do with WWDC '17. Carry on.

You do know that they are working on these, right? Well - they were vague on the Mini, but didn't push it off the table, and the Mac Pro is coming, but probably only next year....

Well yes, one is for her. We are waiting for the 10.5" to hit the Apple Store so she can see it in person and decide if she likes that over the 12.9".

Ah, giving her the bigger one. Good plan.
All I hear about the 12.9" is that it is too big for mobile use; even in the home. I'm sure many love it, but I'm definitely not considering it. 10.5" gets me closer to the experience of having a digital piece of normal sized paper. That is what I want.

Yes, sir. Pardon my piggy back:

Apple via Daring Fireball:

THE UPCOMING IMAC PRO IS NOT THE NEW MAC PRO

Apple:

"In addition to the new iMac Pro, Apple is working on a completely redesigned, next-generation Mac Pro architected for pro customers who need the highest-end, high-throughput system in a modular design, as well as a new high-end pro display."

I doubt Apple would have held that press conference in April if they were to reneg on the Mac Pro. I knew people would rail about that and completely forget about the April announcements. Given the power of the iMac Pro, I am looking forward to seeing what Apple will do with the new Mac Pro.

LOL...my iPad silliness continues. With the new features coming in iOS 11 and the 10.5" perhaps I will find the iPad sweet spot. I am especially happy to hear about the display and the pencil working even better together - which I would give another shot for drawing etc.

Also time to start saving for a replacement for my aging 27" iMac. I am amazed at the power I can own now for about $500 more than what I'd been paying for iMacs up until my 2010 21.5". I'd like to own a machine that won't be so darn long in the tooth after 2 years (my 2013 27" model was built in 2015). I thought I'd leave this all in one behind but after almost 20 years of owning iMacs they just work for me.

I think it's wonderful the 21.5" got some big time loving too, but doing the math last night proved to me that the 27" gives you much more bang for the buck (and even more with memory upgrades).

I am glad Apple are finally listening to some of what their user base needs and these desktop upgrades are most welcome. All this said, I would weep for joy if a nicely spec'd Space Gray Mac Mini suddenly manifests later this year. A part of me still would love to try the Mini, but my growing video / image usage is demanding more under the hood than what the current Mini provides.
