Yes, sir. Pardon my piggy back:

Apple via Daring Fireball:

THE UPCOMING IMAC PRO IS NOT THE NEW MAC PRO

Apple:

"In addition to the new iMac Pro, Apple is working on a completely redesigned, next-generation Mac Pro architected for pro customers who need the highest-end, high-throughput system in a modular design, as well as a new high-end pro display."

I doubt Apple would have held that press conference in April if they were to reneg on the Mac Pro. I knew people would rail about that and completely forget about the April announcements. Given the power of the iMac Pro, I am looking forward to seeing what Apple will do with the new Mac Pro.

LOL...my iPad silliness continues. With the new features coming in iOS 11 and the 10.5" perhaps I will find the iPad sweet spot. I am especially happy to hear about the display and the pencil working even better together - which I would give another shot for drawing etc.

Also time to start saving for a replacement for my aging 27" iMac. I am amazed at the power I can own now for about $500 more than what I'd been paying for iMacs up until my 2010 21.5". I'd like to own a machine that won't be so darn long in the tooth after 2 years (my 2013 27" model was built in 2015). I thought I'd leave this all in one behind but after almost 20 years of owning iMacs they just work for me.

I think it's wonderful the 21.5" got some big time loving too, but doing the math last night proved to me that the 27" gives you much more bang for the buck (and even more with memory upgrades).

I am glad Apple are finally listening to some of what their user base needs and these desktop upgrades are most welcome. All this said, I would weep for joy if a nicely spec'd Space Gray Mac Mini suddenly manifests later this year. A part of me still would love to try the Mini, but my growing video / image usage is demanding more under the hood than what the current Mini provides.

I saw that post on Daringfireball after I posted. Yep that is a clear statement from Apple specifically on the issue of the Mac Pro.

I hope we see a Mini as well. Though I will buy an iMac when I'm ready to move on from my 2011 iMac. I think another year is fine since I'm using an external SSD as my boot drive. But I will be getting my Mom one of the lower end iMacs. She is using my old 24-inch Mid 2007. It was a pretty powerful version of the iMac and I upgraded the ram to 4gb. But it is still running Lion. This upgrade is going to kind of blow her mind. I'd hand down my 2011 27-inch iMac, but the external SSD sometimes requires some fussing around and rebooting. It occasionally crashes and reboots to the internal hard drive. I don't want to have to trouble shoot that for her. And I'm not sure I want to try to install an internal SSD.

I thought you might have seen that DF post but that is a nice reminder of the April news.

In hindsight, I have nothing but praise for the stock low end iMacs (my most recent two were stock models) - so your mom will be very impressed. If I did not need more horse power now, I'd just pick one of the new 27" machines. I recently gave away my 2010 21.5" stock that is still running decently and this 2013 27" stock is pretty good too, just not for my specific needs.

I mention the Mini as I want it to continue, but realistically I know I'll probably stay with the iMac as I've been using iMacs since they were introduced and yesterday's upgrades makes that choice a no brainer.

I wish you good usage with whatever Macs you buy.

I think it's really interesting how forgetful a lot of commenters are when it comes to Apple's updates as of late...

"Apple has let down the pro users!"

Apple then holds a closed door meeting to discuss drastic changes moving forward to resource Pro users including a new Mac Pro and some new things with iMac, and saying that Mac Mini still has a place at the table.

"What ever Apple does for Pros probably won't be available til 2019! Can't they just put something together quickly and announce it?"

Apple then updates the entire iMac line and announces the insanely powerful iMac Pro coming in December.

"They got rid of the Mac Pro!!! All we get is a glorified version of the iMac!!! Way to go Apple!!! Plus, I'm not paying $5,000 for an iMac!!!"

Then there's the sleeper commenters who don't say a word for years...then...

"No iPad Mini?!?!? No more iPad for me then!"

Yes, Apple has changed - surprise! Steve Jobs passed away, and we live in a different time. Disney eventually changed when Walt died (although, it didn't start changing until the 80s because the old guard wouldn't move past the Walt of the 1960s - Walt would've been so upset knowing that there was no forward motion).

The reality is that we Apple users have also changed. We used to be the adventurous type - ready and waiting to migrate to new products!

Now, we found that one meal that we like and don't ever ever ever take it away! Make it better, but don't you dare make it THAT much different or (gasp) move me to a new product!

Maybe, let's all acknowledge that Apple is moving forward again in some positive ways and moved quicker than we've seen in a long time to get us refreshed hardware til the new stuff is designed and ready.

Something doesn't add up from your info:
- iMac late 2009 has one i7: Intel Core i7 860 (Lynnfield) 2.8GHz + ATi Radeon HD 4850
- iMac mid 2010 has one i7: Intel Core i7 870 (Lynnfield) 2.93Ghz + ATi Radeon HD 5750
So you have the mid 2010 iMac or the late 2009?

CPU Comparison (Geekbench results*):
iMac late 2009 with Intel Core i7 860 / iMac mid 2010 with Intel Core i7 870 / iMac i5-7500 (Kaby Lake) 3.4
Single Core Score:
2513 / 2695 / 4420
Multi Core Score:
7349 / 8149 / 12235

GPU Comparison (3DMark results**):
iMac late 2009 with ATi Radeon HD 4850 / iMac mid 2010 with ATi Radeon HD 5750 / iMac i5-7500 with AMD Radeon Pro 570
- / 1370 / 12800**

** AMD Radeon RX 570 should be somewhere in between RX 470 and RX 480

Ah, i kinda just knew it w as a mid2010 so must have scooped up the epics wrong. Assuming the new macs would be a significant improvement

Honestly this has been the best Apple Keynote in years in my opinion. Support for external GPUs and VR, a pro iMac with more pro stuff coming, finally reduced bezels on the iPad line with real multi-tasking, drag and drop and a file browser. This is the best I've seen Apple do since Steve's passing.

Just ordered the 10.5 Space Gray WiFi with 256GB at Best Buy for local pickup on Jun 13th. They also included a $25 BB Gift Card.

I'm in total agreement :)
