I call it the iPod treatment.
iPad Air2 just smoked the Mini3

Or Mac mini treatment. iPod touch is all but abandonware now IMHO with its several generations behind A5 chip. And the iPod nano serves it purpose for those who want a compact music player. The mini at least gets an update every couple of years to bring it up to par with last years computers.

So, when is:
"Walk in & buy at store" day?

Next Friday.

Too bad the lack of an iPad Pro shows that Apple = noob :cool::mad:

Yeah. When Cook said on stage that last year they've made this powerful device that's almost as capable as a laptop, and that a device is as good as the things is it capable of doing, and that people have been using them in ways they couldn't predicts, and then asks the audience how could it be even better I was was almost screaming at the screen: MAKE IT LARGER!

NO! We made it thinner…

So is there any confirmation that the Air 2 has 2GB RAM? I don't understand why Apple has to be so secretive about this. For some people (like me) it's the deciding factor on whether or not to upgrade.

I think we will get something larger....when Apple is ready to announce changes to iOS to support it. We've heard rumors about side by side app multitasking. Obviously Apple is focused right now on iOS bug fixes so to introduce something like that now I fear would be a disaster.

When I see those messages "apple store down" I think, what a bunch of amateurs. Who does this stuff like this in this time and age? Don't they have development and stage environments where they can update the sites internally ahead of time and test everything and just make the new stuff available in the flip of the switch?
I do not think of any e-comerce website that shuts down its operations for several hours just to put 2 new products online? Doesn't that hurt the revenue? Imagine if Amazon was down for half a day so they could add few new products? It seems like Apple still in 90's when it comes to this process - unbelievable.

I find it strange that the "Store Closed" page still is done in the old website style. I guess they never updated it with the new style.

It seems fairly obvious -- why emphasize a spec that, by design, they intend to upgrade very slowly to preserve margins, and is also poorly understood by non-tech savvy consumers, the bulk of Apple's market.

So the iPad mini 3 still has an A7 chip?

This. There needs to be iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2 and that's it.

At a push, keep the 16 GB iPad Air 1 and iPad mini 2 to cover a lower price point, but no more.

It is the exact same device except for the TouchID.

Is normal shipping good enough for a day one delivery assuming I order it this morning?

Yes, all preorders at this stage will be delivered "day of launch" regardless of shipping method. If you go w/ expedited you are just giving Apple free $ and won't see your iPad any faster. At some point Apple will announce orders no longer can be delivered on launch day. That's when expedited will be expedited, but not before.

With 5 options Apple's iPad lineup is a mess.

Seriously, so much for Jobs idea of keeping the product lines clean and lean. Exactly what happened in early 1990s where the number of products spiraled out of control confusing the consumer what to buy....

Store still down. I live 5 blocks from an Apple Store, so it would be very frustrating if I pre-ordered, only to find out Monday morning that I can just walk in and buy one.

I really, really wish Apple had specified when they are going on sale in stores...
Wonder if they have shared anything with retail employees, or are they just as much in the dark?

Best buy says I can pre-order today (the 17th) either in store or online. Got it in an email

Because iOS typically runs far, far better than Android X amount of RAM, and having less RAM means longer battery life, so Apple keeps RAM lower and avoids calling attention to a spec that will be abused by those who ignore real world performance in favor of a spec sheet.
