Oh please, it doesn't matter what the guy/girl is wearing as long as they are helpful and knowledgeable. Most tech companies could care less what you wear. I've seen great employees working on their pjays.

Don't be jealous just because you gotta wear a suit to work, or you just have a problem with feet in general?
Feet are gross.

Why does that guy get to wear flip-flops to work?

He'll be fired tomorrow when its no longer earth day.

Feet are gross.
Feet are not gross.
It is plain disgusting to expose them like that in a professional setting.
They can be inside out of sight out of mind. Thank you very much. I want to focus on the products not your exposed extremities ;)
[doublepost=1523574806][/doublepost]I DON'T think these people really appreciate the real meaning behind Earth Day.
Much like most people who buy color products like RED, or Pink Ribbons or Green Shirts or Yellow wrist bands etc -- that its all consumer targeted marketing nothing more nothing less than just marketing to get you to dig deeper into your pockets / wallets / pay devices what ever you got. Coins? Anything to get you to buy buy buy, using a day like Earth Day feel good kind - of bang - for your buck much?

How environmentally friendly and how many carbons were saved in the making of this promotional day possible and all the shirts?

His flip flops are very high in carbon footprint ha !!! Pun intended.

Out of all the people who buy a "cheap" windows PC, how many know how to upgrade these systems? Very few. On that same note, I've had quite a few people come to me to help them fix their broken <insert brand name here> laptop or desktop. The failure rate on these $199-$600 systems that anyone can buy is usually pretty high. I personally have purchased and used several $399 systems that broke or failed within a few years. Meanwhile my macs and apple devices have outlived these on a huge factor (and continue to do so).

Everyone's experience is different, sure. But just because you've had a bricked iPhone and the vast majority of users haven't doesn't make Apple a bad choice. I can count on 2+ hands the number of Samsung users who beg me to help them fix a boot loop issue, update failure, or a restarting issue or ... you name it. Does that make all Samsung devices bad? No. But out of all the Apple users I know, this is far more.

Samsung Tablets are the worst. I've wasted so many hours of my life using Odin3 to flash Samsung Tablets....

My experience is that my Apple products have vastly outlived the competition in what I've used. Out of all the people I know, you're definitely the exception than norm. Apple products have been far more "green" for me. Are they perfect? Nope.

Fair enough. :) Out of all the people I know with a cheap PC (or one older than 2009) that they use for email, internet, and maybe MSWord or turbotax, most are still working fine with Windows XP. They picked up a cheap one or held onto an old one because they're still working fine. Only upgrade I did for friends or family was buy them some inexpensive RAM to go from 2gb to 4 or 8. I know of nobody who ponied up for a PC and discarded it just a few years later, which is what caught my attention in your post.

As for my iPhone 4, I knew quite a few friends whose 4 was bricked by iOS7 with no way back to iOS6 thanks to Apple's Chinese finger trap method of one-way iOS updates. Many said sayonara at that point and jumped to Android. To your point, every user's experience is different for sure. Heck, I still have a 2001-era Dell I use once in a while to access old files, has Windows2000 and works "fine," though "fine" is relative when a computer has Windows. :)

As an old PC tech, I can vouch that if you put quality parts in, your computer will run a long time. You might switch out a power supply or non-SSD once in a while. Otherwise, Apple hardware isn't demonstrably better than PC. What keeps me in the Apple garden is the software. Windows and Android are just not well crafted experiences, imho. Part of it is that as a designer, I prefer a clean OS that is more, I dunno, 'zen-like'. Mac OS is it for me. I keep thinking my future are Hackintosh systems, but I haven't had the time to really pour into that kind of project. Ever since switching to Macs back in 2007, I haven't really regretted my choice; I do wish that I could easily swap parts out like I used to. I can't stand working through the Apple store despite their overall professionalism and reasonable turn-around. I just purchased a new iMac, but maybe after it's done I'll try my hand at the Hackintosh.

Those bare feet are disgusting and so unprofessional. Flip flops are not adequate in workplace, unless you work at a beach bar or something like that, clearly not the case. Surprised Apple allows it.

i think the photo shows they are still setting up and opening of doors for that day was not imminent. there are people in the back of the photo who are hard at work doing some arranging or something.
so i dont think the guy will be wearing flip flops during store hours.

Is it just me, or does it seem a bit odd to celebrate Earth Day by creating and shipping tonnes of product half way around the world?

cotton is one of the most heavily polluting of fabrics, if it is made and processed using industry standard techniques.
but, their shirts could be from organically grown cotton and the processes that take raw cotton making it into a fabric could on the other hand be done with limiting pollutants, and the cotton itself could have come from non-autharitarian countries as well.
i kind of wish apple would give more info on how these t-shirts are made. since if they also take care in buying these from ethical sources, that in and of itself would help justify making these t-shirts for just 1 or 2 days as it would be great to raise awareness about the possibilities of fabric and textile pollution.
being apple, i am willing to bet they just dont buy these from any cheap source, but probably do take care about the above issues.

From National Geographic: "Did you know that the t-shirt on your back has a major impact on the planet? Producing it took 2,700 liters of water, plus it takes a lot of energy to get it from the cotton fields to your closet."

Which store is in the picture?

This photo must be from iOS6. There's way too much contrast in that photo and not enough bland whiteness and greyness. Otherwise, how confusing and inefficient would it be for customers to deal with stores like that.... Today's Apple customers do not NEED anything so engaging and warm.

How long until they add this above and to the right of the front doors:

Apple Store

Also the wood-grainy-looking tables are way too cheesy, so life-like and warm-looking. How long until they replace them with:
Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 10.42.53 PM.png

And green shirts? How confusing! How inconsistent! They should only be white or blue, like Jony Ive would commandeth!

Consistent! Unobtrusive! Clean!

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 10.45.28 PM.png Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 10.44.38 PM.png

Those bookshelves in the back! They LOOK like bookshelves!!!!?! And with no Gradient!:eek: How can Jony allow that!

It better not be too long till they are fixed to look properly consistent with iOS/OSX:

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 10.49.44 PM.png

And the green EXIT sign in the rear...they better change that to flat blue ASAP or else risk people dying from confusion if ever called upon to exit hastily.

It was nice to see that photo and be taken down memory lane. Now back to your regular Apple programming.

OMG What’s this gathering of halfdressed, (supposedly) adult, early deserted orphans targeted at ?
Mr. Ive is in charge of corporate design and has control to the detail - onto the molecular level
Mrs. Ahrendts is overlooking corporate style- and fashion and is supposed to have control to the immaculate detail there - as she sitting in the middle of this convention
I am afraid overlapping area’s of control and immersive compromises have led to this styling fiasco.

Can they focus on the following instead of stupid green shirts?

1. Mac Hardware updates
2. Homepod pricing
3. Getting rid of notch
4. Bringing back headphone jack
5. Getting rid of Tim Cook

This may be news to you but big companies can focus on more than 1 thing at a time.

Well I am typing this on a $5 Maxxon keyboard which is far better, durable and more tactile than the $200 flimsy butterfly drama that accompanied my $3000 MacBook. Start there !
(I can send Mr. Ive a few samples if someone has his address)

Hmmm

Does Angela Ahrendt understand what IS EARTH day ??

Maybe she thinks it just wearing green ??

I mean seriously , some people think Obamacare and ACA are 2 different things !!

I mean Angela is a fashion expert , what does she know about going green ? They design clothes and then uses enough energy to power a village to showcase their “new” designs ...

Can some one ask Angela point blank , DOES she know what is Earth Day ??

Apple Store employees will celebrate Earth Day by again wearing green shirts instead of traditional navy blue for the next few weeks.

Apple's retail chief Angela Ahrendts with employees ahead of Earth Day in 2017

Apple has already provided many of its retail employees with the new uniform, which they will begin wearing as early as Friday, April 13 in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries, according to a reliable source. The new shirts will likely be worn at least through Earth Day on Sunday, April 22.

A tipster who asked to be identified as The Apple Post informant today sent us photos of what appears to be the new uniform items.

Apple also celebrates Earth Day by adding a green leaf accent to the Apple logos at its retail stores around the world, and by offering an Earth Day activity challenge on Apple Watch. And, in recent years, Apple has shared a series of Earth Day videos, Apple Music playlists, and featured App Store apps.

Apple will likely release its 2018 Environmental Responsibility Report around Earth Day, highlighting the company's commitment and progress in relation to recycling, renewable energy, and other green initiatives around the world.

Earlier this week, Apple announced that its global facilities, including retail stores, offices, and data centers across 43 countries, are now powered with 100 percent renewable energy. In addition, an additional nine Apple suppliers around the world have committed to using renewable energy sources.

Communist propaganda

They were probably ordered to come in for a store wide meeting to be issued the shirts and the required photo. Hourly employees don't get the choices like many on this forum have.
Nope

Yup, shirts that will be worn for no more than 40 hours (use outside Apple stores on-the-job likely prohibited).
Nope

It is easy to criticize. Finally a post that looks at things realistically. Macs are some of the longest running computers too. My main machine is a 2011 Mac Mini. Wife and I still use our 2015 Macbook Airs every day. $400 Windows laptops are lucky to be used more than a few years before being tossed. Meanwhile my 2011 Mac Mini is going strong with an SSD and 8GB of ram. Apple definitely tries a lot harder than many other companies to be "green" - agreed, have to give credit where it is due.
These forums are regularly filled with trolls and folks who’s hobbies are to bash Apple. They come to a pro Apple rumors site and find anything negative they can to comment on. Hope the “it’s cool and edgy to **** on Apple” fad dies at some point.

Well, that's a helpful response.

I'm about as pro-Apple as they come. Make a good living off their products. Have 6 Apple devices within arm's reach right now. I don't, however, construe everything they do as automatically perfect (despite my usually heroic attempts to spin issues as such).

Making new shirts - intended to be worn no more than 1 week - to tout reduction of environmental impact is just hypocritical.

Are we the only ones that see this? I don't go out of my way to visit Windows forums to bag on Microsoft products. I've got better things to do with my life. I'm here cuz I like Apple a lot. I've used Windows since 3.1 days as a child. I'm a Visual Studio C# programmer for almost 10 years now (programmed all my life) and I've done IT for 15+ years. Windows is my bread and butter but I really like Mac and now that I can afford some of it I'm really enjoying what I see even though I spend 10+ hours a day on a Windows machine and know it better than Mac.

Wonder how free my time would have to be to spend hours on a Windows forum bashing pro-Windows people. :p

I wonder if this person's post is true -- if so it may answer your statement. But if your statement is true (that they only wear these for 1 week) - you're right - would be a huge waste.

Lots of comments from the peanut gallery from people without any real perspective.

Apple employees have a uniform. They’re given either 2 or 3 shirts to wear 5 days a week. I guarantee most of those chiming in here wear more far more than the same 2 or 3 shirts for most of the week for months on end.

FWIW, Apple employees rotate 3 different color shirts for the entire year. That’s 6-9 shirts worn for approximately 1200-2000 hrs. And last year, they wore those green shirts for over 2 months (April - June).

So go ahead and comment again on who’s actually being more wasteful with their wardrobe.

Lol, so you're saying that a keyboard with a travel height that's higher than the height of the entire macbook works better than whatever Apple's using? No **** sherlock, but we don't want laptops with a height of 5cm... It's a laptop so you always have to compromise compared to a desktop setup weather that is with the keyboard, or the mouse/touchpad or the size of the screen.

I'm wearing socks today!

Oh, by the way, it's light outside and I'm drinking a glass of water, seeing as this should count for being "news"...

Yep. I hear at the end of the promotion, they are required to burn them in a toxic chemical fire and not just take them home.

I honestly don't know if they can actually take them home and are they allowed to wear them in public? Given that it's work attire I honestly doubt if they're allowed to do that.

Yes that's noble and all, but imagine the water used by washing those 6-9 shirts.... Unless they are truly being disgusting, like the flip flop guy.

Funny, very few of others' rants against Apple I've read here would I consider to be bashing. Most seem to be deserved critiques by those who prefer Apple products, centering not on nit-picking but moreso on questionable priorities and seeking solutions to non-problems, some of which, as a result, noticeably negatively impact their user experience and value for the much-money they/we spend on Apple products.

I would tend to agree that any significant money spent on green t-shirts or blue t-shirts or fake or real trees in stores or different table layouts by Mrs. Ahrendts is wasted money worthy of criticism. I've been in dozens of slightly different Apple stores and not one helped or hurt my shopping or buying process. Misplaced priorites IMHO as Apple softens and loses its razor-sharp focus compared to ~10 years ago and prior, and worthy of the occasional jab & critique. How many times in life have you had the time of your life in a dive bar where you'd want to wash your hands if you accidentally touched the floor or underside of a table? Apple adds way too much fashion into unnecessary "priorities" nowadays, be it green t-shirts, or adding more greys & whites to stores, or removing all semblance of inspired design from their software, or creating an all-glass maze of office spaces where workers are accidentally walking into glass walls & doors. In the least, it's misplaced spending that's raising the costs of hardware we buy. At worst, it's resulting in over-redesigning and minimalization for change for the sake of change.

I think most critiques are well deserved, here as I type using OSX Mavericks, the last pretty OSX as far as I'm concerned, and with my MacBook Air, the last best-overall-balanced computer Apple's made. :)
