Guess the rest of the world will have to wait for it to be available in their countries

Do you actually feel the need to have an "Apple Store" in your pocket?
I think this app is completely useless... I really doubt someone cannot wait to get home or to a bigger screen to give Stevie some money... but I guess Apple just answers the market... there are people willing to spend more money if there is an app for their iphone where they can order an utterly overpriced mac mini... and Apple replies back with the app :)
I wonder how many people would have bought this app if it had been a paid one... (obviously Stevie would say that it would be the best of the best apps for shopping on-line and as a potential customer you would have premium access to the store...)

Is that was a valid reason, Apple could have just implemented this in HTML5 on their web servers - making a custom iPhone view.

No - they chose the app route to add extra functionality - so it's lame they haven't supported all iOS devices properly.

What extra functionality? Maybe I am being a bit blind, but what can you do in this app that you can't do in the normal "web" Apple store? What couldn't be done with HTML5?

Beyond marketing purposes, I am struggling to see why this app needs to exist (... or is Apple just getting lazy and choosing not to bother with making web sites that offer equal functionality across all devices)

What extra functionality does this apo bring that isn't already available through the regular store?

Well... can't you make Genius appointments on it too? That's better than using the not-for-iPhone site to make one.

Another Apple Fiasco!!!!

there seems to be nothing that works today....EMBARRASSING!!!!!

u sure can't order a phone ANYWHERE!!!!

Oh yeah, knew they'd be original and call it "Apple Store" :p

And while we don't have the Apple Store app, you folks in America don't have the iTunes Festival app which is pretty cool ;)

as of 9:13 EST the preorder page in store.apple.com is live but the app still shows the "we'll be back soon" screen. damn, i guess i'll have to wait to order my new iPhone with my old iPhone.

I was finally successful

I started at 6:30 a.m. EDT and periodically through the morning and only was now finally successful in pre-ordering. It happened in stages. First I was able to get the phone into my basket, and that was a chore. Then I was able to start the checkout, by logging in with my Apple ID, then I was able to finish the checkout, then I had to go back in and check my account to confirm that it went through. Each time it took multiple tries with that stupid "Oops" screen coming up and/or the annoying sticky note.

You'd have thought that they'd expect maybe a wee bit more traffic this morning.

But I'm glad I got mine ordered and now I can move on in my day.

I would be inclined to agree with you although have you tried browsing the apple store web site on a bog standard iPhone 3G? I have found it to be painfully slow and unstable, this does in theory improve on that experience although being in the UK i couldn't attest to that.
US only and not universal makes it seem like a rushed and unfinished release to me (safari on the iPad is great for the applestore but not making it universal doesn't really send out a very good message IMHO).

Be interesting to see there icon so if someone manages to download it could you do a screenshot please?

oh great and the app just crashes when trying to preorder the iphone. Great.

wtf is wrong with you today Apple?

It's OK just found it ;)

Seems like Apple has a way to bypass their own App Store requirement that the application not crash...

Tried twice to order a new iPhone, crashed both times. Derp derp derp

To clear up the Crash issues, it seems to crash when trying to verify with AT&T servers. Hmmmm, should we suspect anything better

Att

I called att to ask some questions, when mentioned to improve their website the call mysteriously dropped.

odd:confused:
