People forget that there is a massive silicon chip shortage going on right now. I’m not surprised in the least that there are far fewer devices available at launch than in years past.

As I do agree with the chip shortage (Its affected me multiple times, heck even the car I'm trying to purchase is about 4 months out due to the silicone shortage) I'm not sure how much its affecting the iPhones. Our store has plenty of iPhone 13 models from the regular to the minis and we even had some of the pro models in stock all the way until last night it was the max models that all our local stores got very little to none and it seems that way across the board.
Looks like I'm sticking with Sierra Blue then! It's fine anyway. The color is starting to grow on me
Read this morning that the blackouts in China are affecting Pegatron who is a major supplier to Apple.
I ordered the Graphite 12 Pro Max last year, delivered Fri. Nov. 13.
Ran into the same issue, I was really liking the Pacific Blue more and more...but nothing to be found in that color, 256gb storage nearby. It did take until Wed. Nov. 25 (12 days later) to finally find one, ordered it, trade in the Graphite.
All stores are different, some stock pops up at one (not another) this coming week. Just keep checking...heck check 6:30, 7am, 8am each morning. Remain patient. I think you'll get one.
Seriously, this IS real and it's getting worse each week.it's not just $1000+ iPhones.
In the last week and half, I've experience shortages on bottled water, paper towels, canned beans, frozen unprepared calamari rings, marinara sauces, and even pet food. There is definitely something weird going on. Even during the height of the pandemic last year, the shortages weren't this bad....
I realize there's a truck driver shortage, but it's more than this I think. I'll go into Target for a "quick target run" and each time it looks like the day before a blizzard in there. Bread, milk depleted. My grocery store run now consists of going to 2-3 different stores because stock is different. But cat litter....shelf was totally empty!
And YES....PET FOOD! My car eats this green bag of Purina Cat Chow Indoor, picky eater. Not even PetSmart has this. I ended finding this at Walmart, found 2 smaller 3lb bags there today. It's bad.
I wrote a hopeful post about finding the other iPhone, I remain SLIGHTLY hopeful for that? The whole UPS mess on some non-deliveries on Fri. I blame this on extreme delayed deliveries, driver shortages also with them.
If you are all a last second Xmas present purchaser like I am, I might start re-thinking that and start getting your Xmas shopping started ASAP.
oh man... I am just like you... I don't start shopping for Christmas stuff until noon on 12/24.... I've been doing that since at least 1985.... last year(2020) was risky and I still managed to find something at Best Buy and Macy's just before 4pm on 12/24. my friends think that I enjoy the thrill of last-minute shopping...

I go to one of the largest AT&T stores in San Antonio (8th largest city in the US) and on opening day, they only received ONE 13 Pro Max. Luckily, I got to the store before opening and was first in line, I was the only customer to receive a Pro Max. And I was starting to wonder if it was worth waiting in line before opening any more.
The store manager told me I was the lucky one that day. He said that he usually gets a larger variety of phones but not this year.
Good luck to everyone who was hoping to just show up at an Apple Store this year and find the usual selection.

You might want to switch to a car that just drinks gas. Or maybe one that eats electricity if you want to be really fancy.

Yea last year they sent me a delayed email at the last minute, but I was able to get a 12PM the next day at a nearby store. I had to get a retail price and 256 instead of 128, but I got one.
I still haven’t see a single Pro or Pro Max in my LA area since Friday launch.
I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and place an online order and just wait it out. I have the IUP and I’m curious if I go ahead and put the order it for delivery, can I still buy one in the store if I see it there before they ship me one?

The way I’d do it is, go ahead and place an online order for delivery. Your card will not be charge right away until Apple gets to your order and process it. In the mean time, I’d check apple.com in-store pick up availability and if you see the one you want is in stock, quickly place an order. Once you pick it up, go back to apple.com and cancel your other order that you place for online order for delivery.
That works if you’re going to pay in full or finance with the apple card, but it doesn’t work if you’re financing through the carrier or using iUP. In those cases the financing is fixed to the phone and while you can still cancel it’s not an immediate process. It can take a day or two before everything is canceled out and by that point the phone that you saw in the store will probably be gone.

I would be upgrading through IUP, so if I order online for delivery my Citizens account would be all setup for the phone I ordered. Hmm but if they haven’t shipped it yet I don’t see why I can’t cancelI see stuff popping up now
