Hmm yeah this is what I thought :( I would be upgrading through IUP, so if I order online for delivery my Citizens account would be all setup for the phone I ordered. Hmm but if they haven’t shipped it yet I don’t see why I can’t cancel

I’m less familiar with iUp than I am with some of the other options, so someone might correct me if I’m wrong, but when you set up the new iUP plan they run your credit and set you up with a new loan and start the process to close out your old loan and trade in your old device.

The problem is that they can’t just change from an ordered phone to an in store pickup, so you would have to cancel the original loan and then go through the whole process again from the beginning and it can take them some time (like a day or two) to cancel everything out and for your old phone and loan to show as upgradable again in the computer. So by the time all that happens the phone that you saw in the store will be long gone.

The short version is that you can cancel, but you can’t just turn around and get another phone immediately after canceling.

You make a good point. At this point I think I might just find better luck ordering now and just waiting it out. Not seeing much inventory gains in store. Getting tired of checking 50 times a day lol

I still haven’t see a single Pro or Pro Max in my LA area since Friday launch.
I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and place an online order and just wait it out. I have the IUP and I’m curious if I go ahead and put the order it for delivery, can I still buy one in the store if I see it there before they ship me one?
I'm also in the LA area and they definitely had them Friday-Sunday. It's been pretty depleted and just about 0 since Sunday evening out here. All iPhones 13 Pros.

I pre ordered a 13 Pro 256gb Sierra Blue, got it on launch day. Exchanged it Saturday morning at Apple Store Tower Theatre (DTLA) for the 13 Pro Max Sierra Blue 256GB. Literally refreshed their site/app like non stop.
So inventory can appear at any point in the day?

T-Mobile has the blue and midnight in any size in stock.
I just checked online. The 13 pro max isn’t available from what I saw. Not to mention they don’t support the iPhone upgrade plan, which I’m personally enrolled in :( so I gotta get it through apple from what I’ve seen and understand. I heard Best Buy supports the upgrade plan, but on their app at least I’ve seen absolutely no way to sign up using it.

Literally any point. Tried on Saturday from 5am-3pm. At 3pm the Pro Max showed up for me and I purchased it immediately. The check in time was like 3hrs later around 6pm at the Apple Store.
I must be checking at the worse times. I check all damn day using the mobile app and I haven’t seen any Pro Max models available in the 15 closets stores to me. RIP

I don’t think that’s really too unusual. In store inventory is generally pretty low for the first few days, or even weeks, after launch. The stores do get new stock every day, so check first thing in the morning and you may get lucky and snag something.
I was lucky on launch day. I logged in to apple.com, ordered and picked up at the a Apple store a iPhone 13 pro max, 1T, Sierra Blue.

Its been the same in the UK from what I can tell and I thought it was worse than normal launches where Stores usually get some phones over the following days from launch, but certainly for the local 12 or so Stores I've been checking regularly, it looks like they've been getting nothing.

That works if you’re going to pay in full or finance with the apple card, but it doesn’t work if you’re financing through the carrier or using iUP. In those cases the financing is fixed to the phone and while you can still cancel it’s not an immediate process. It can take a day or two before everything is canceled out and by that point the phone that you saw in the store will probably be gone.
True. would only work on sim-free model or outright.

A 13PM appeared available at The Grove last night then quickly disappeared.

There were Pro Max iPhones this morning in stock in Paris (Opera’s Apple Store), for walk in buyers but also for pickup orders

They come and go apparently. Chicago had SB Pro max 256 gb for a few minutes and then disappeared. if you guys are still looking, keep looking. I'd expect some more to be receive this week.

Dates are now slipping into early November for USA/LA area for me. I'm fearful for the longer I wait, I may end up having to wait until Christmas for the phone lol.

I'm still going to hold out a bit longer I guess to see if I can monitor the stores near me to see if one pops up

Why not order one and in the meantime try to find one locally? Then cancel the order if you find one locally.

Because I'm part of the iPhone Upgrade Plan (IUP) and from what I've heard, once you start the pre-order purchase you kind of get locked into that phone as a Citizens account gets created and steps start to happen to close out the old account. So if I were to cancel because I saw something available in a store, I've heard the cancel process is not instant and I would not be able to immediately snatch up the in-store phone before someone else gets it.

So if I decide to just buy now and wait for it to ship, I'm kind of putting all my eggs in that one basket from what I understand.

Oh ok, yeah that definitely makes things more difficult.
