I think MBP will be released after Special Event..
It's too important update..
If it is just a minor bump like the rumours say, then it's unlikely to be worth holding an event for it.

Lets hope not.. Can't wait to have a MBP in my hands. Been reading lots about MacOS X lately, I'd love to replace my windows desktop with it.

Apple have until the end of the month to bring out a MBP update otherwise I'll be buying something else with my hard earned money.

2.8 GHz would mean an Extreme model which has a TDP about 20% higher than normal. Let's see if Apple can manage to fit such a beast in a 1-inch laptop. I think it's more likely to be the 2.6 GHz model, 6 MB L2 cache, but who knows.
A Mini redesign with a 3.5" HDD and an optical drive (because there's not really a benefit to a desktop apart from saving a few pennies) would be great. In other news, I dream too much, but meh
It usually comes back on at 1:30pm UK time, just as my lunch break is finishing.

I never used a Mac but waiting for my first MBA!
So talking about MBP, isnt it very powerful machine already? I mean why everybody dieing for much more powerful one?
Of course everybody like to upgrade and get the best but u make me feel that the MBP is underpowered or something

I don't think the prices of the ACD's will be that low. They are already low compared to competitors. The glossy option would be nice though.

The reason why people are waiting is because the current MBP is outdated and overpriced for it's current spec. It's also a matter of princilpe (you don't want to buy something when YOU KNOW it's being updated shortly).

I don't think its the fact the MBP is underpowered. Its just its long overdue for an update (check the MR Buyers Guide) plus some are hoping for a slight case redesign (multi-touch trackpad would be nice). The MBP is also the only Mac not to have the revised keyboard.
I am hoping for Blu-Ray as well, but can't imagine them putting it in the MBP before the Mac Pro.

I hope they never bring out a glossy ACD. It's bad enough with the iMac.

I think same happened to me when I wanted to buy MB, but didn't wana buy it until I know what is the new ultraportable will be like.
My guess is a pink theme for 10.5.2, but the software update will cost 15 $ to download and therefore will be the perfect electronic valentines day gift.
Don't worry about school. You'll learn far more browsing MR.

a mpb is very high powered, but we want something new...
To all those claiming that Euro stores should go down as well, relax! Iphone and ipod touch appeared after several hours on the UK store last week, so US goes first...it's looking good for the MBP, can't think of anything else being upgraded today...
A riot would break out if they lowered the prices this early after releasing the updated ones (remember the iPhone?). I could see them lowering the prices in a few months with a next little revision, but not now. I hope we'll see the MBP!!!
