i might be wrong but I was under the impression the penryns were not that great in certain laptops and instead the next in line - montevina-something (why the weird names?!!) - has been slapped in new models from HP, sony etc...
would apple consider this alteration as well or just use the penryn as speculated by many so far?
you'd hope apple would be innovative enough to include the most recent intel chip but you know they'll probably settle for one revision back...

Remember to not get your hopes up too high guys and gals! It could just be something like airport express being updated to wireless n spec from the current wireless g spec.

Someone said before that the store always go down on Tuesdays, even if they don't upgrade any products. Is this true?

Montevina won't be out until May/ June and I don't think some people can wait that long ;)

they sometimes do work on a sunday , but tuesday's are the normal release day for stuff.

saying that the Apple store goes down more then paris hilton ;)

This is a seriously obsessive-compulsive website. I don't even want a new MBP and it's like prom night, ooh the tension. Mind you, if it's a 12 in MBP I might get in the mood. Just can't help thinking this is something minor, small fry - I mean the MBA just came out so why overshadow it completely...?

Where's all the mania for the MBPs come from? Unless I'm mistaken, the only update we're waiting on that Apple has told us is coming is the :apple:tv.

Isn't NAB now or soon? Doesn't Apple normally update the pro computers around that time (and will even though they no longer participate)?

New MBP and Mac Pro's?

Student/Consumer Macs (MacBooks and Minis) updated around May (for graduation)?

Except Apple aren't gonna be at NAB this year.

Apple will not have a booth at NAB, but there is a speculated Feb 26th event.

The Mac Pro's were updated the week before MWSF so they're not gonna be update any time soon.

Unless Apple have got an early supply from Intel. Its happened before.

Point taken. It can and may happen again, but Intel probably isn't too happy about rushing its technologies for one customer and Apple is likely to have to fork out more money.

ah right, but then what of the comments I've seen regarding the penryn? mind you recent chip advances haven't been so massive, more incremental in recent years

Correct. It's an incremental upgrade. 10% better performance at the same clocks, 10% more efficient or there abouts. And it does seem like it's slowing down a bit, but mind you, that because the power usage has also been going down. Intel isn't pumping up the power requirements and making faster, hotter chips. Nehalem is probably going to be a much bigger step, so look out for it late this year or early next year.
