In that case the total value of my bag is ~£697 (not including 10% discount card), which i suppose is close to £705

Alternatively, make sure you buy something very large when you use the discount.

Big f**k yous to the queue jumpers who spoiled it. "Sucky" bags are already appearing on eBay... I think there should be a boycott on bidding for them!
Shame that Steve snubbed the event and there weren't more (any?) incentives to purchase stuff.
BTW did anyone manage to buy anything on Edu discount?

well I wasn't in the queue last night, I was at a friend of a friends house party in Angel, I got pretty trashed and ended up geting 1 hours sleep and got the tube back to my flat at 6:30am. Had a shower and headed out to regent street, I got there by 9am which i thought would be plenty of time to get a t-shirt. How long was that queue?! it was like a mile long! i did manage to get my t-shirt😀 but i had to wait out in the cold for 3 hours but at least i got in before it started to rain.
Man i love that store and i liked chatting to everyone i met, got talking to some good people both in the queue and in the store. Is it the best apple store in the world? what do people think? The only other one that i've been to is the one in New York. (and i prefered the London one😀)
i had been pondering buying an iPod/mini/flash (when it comes out) and thought ahhh blow it. So i bought a 20gig 4th gen iPod today😀
although i got very cold i think it was totally worth it. The queues inside sucked a bit, but then can you blame apple for wanting to do the warranty info stuff there and then? it creates an overall better service and gives them the opportunity to keep selling you things, sorry i mean keep you informed of cool stuff! 😉 Under normal circumstances i'm sure that this wouldn't seem so bad - it was just because there were loads of people in there buying loads of stuff all at the same time.
I think i could quite happily live in that shop. 😀 but now i must sleep.

Anyone know why they ask your postcode when you buy the lucky bags? Some kind of profiling of area's people visit from??

As far as the ones going up on Ebay are concerned - why not? I'm thinking about putting mine up there since I don't need anything that I got in it (already have the bits I did!) but since you don't know what's in it for sure til you buy it, you take the gamble. Most seem to be putting them up at sensible levels - they're not expecting £700 paydays!

Only had to wait 10 minutes to get in. There was a great buzz around the place, it's great building and full of very friendly staff.
I'm going back at least another two times this week to attend special events.
Congratulations Apple. It's a fantastic move ... I really think it's going to switch a LOT of people and it's certainly going to make my life a lot easier.

What a day!
Well, I've just got back from an enjoyable shopping trip in London! I arrived in Regent Street at about 8:45am but was surprised to see the queue going around the block several times. After the realisation that there were around 3 to 5000 people in the queue and that I was not going to get a t-shirt, I headed off to Next, bought a shirt and then, when Hamleys opened, went in for a browse and a coffee.
I returned to watch the opening of the Apple Store at 10am from across the road. You couldn't get near the store. There were cheers and everyone was going in through the door and up the stairs to aplause and cheers from the Apple staff (as has been documented by the insiders!). Some clueless passers by were asking me which celebrity was outside the store - I told them that there was no-one - just the opening of an Apple Store! I REALLY didn't expect it would have such a reception but I guess I REALLY UNDERESTIMATED the number of hardcore Apple fans, not to mention the number of non-British people who would be visiting from all over Europe and even the USA.
And so I went off to do some shopping in Regent Street, Oxford Street and Carnaby Street and returned after lunch at around 2pm. There was still a queue but luckily it only took around 15 minutes to get in. By then it was raining though. My mum was with me so I took her to some of the Macs and had to have a personal play with a few iMac G5s (only the 2nd time I've seen one) and marvel and drool over the 30" display before wishing I had £2500 in my wallet to drop on that, plus a £500 graphics card and a £2000 G5!
Upstairs, I checked out the GarageBand tutorial which was airing in the lecture theatre and tried to hobble around the iPod stands as I need to get an iPod case (this turned out to be my only purchase luckily). The store itself is superb and a nice size with plenty of demo stations. Despite the number of people in the store, I was still able to get on a Mac pretty much straight away whever I wanted to and the staff were plentiful and very helpful, just like their American counterparts.
The only downside to the whole experience was the lousy service at the checkout. Ok, so it's understandable with tonnes of people and being the first day and all, but I had to queue for no less than 40 minutes just to buy a single iPod accessory item which I held in my hand. They could have done with a separate queue line for quick purchases, so I didn't have to wait while people bought iMacs and printers and G5s in front of me. Everyone was very patient though!
So, overall, a great day! I should get to visit the Apple Store when it's hopefully a little quieter closer to Christmas when I'm next in that area and I'm looking forward to the Bluewater store opening next year. The Regent Street store is located in a wonderful building and in a brilliant position - close to the tube and just down the road from Hamleys and other big stores. It's nice that Apple has been subtle with its design to make it fit - a solitary black flag with a white Apple logo is all you see adorning the front as you look down from Oxford Street but, as you get closer, massive Apple logos lie in the windows. Around the corner, big boards covering what may become windows when they are finished, were painted bright colours in what may have been a subtle reference to the iPod ads. Another neat little trick were the Christmas street decorations of the Incredibles along Regent Street in the vicinity of the store - Apple must have paid to put those decorations up in return for the advertising to Pixar that it would bring. Nice.
And so, while I regret not getting a t-shirt or a lucky bag, or not being one of the very first through the door, I still had a great day and, judging by the general reaction to the goodie bags and the bitterly cold night it was last night, I'm kind of glad I didn't camp out in the end. And so I didn't get to use my specially printed MacRumors 68000 badge in the end.. oh well, maybe next time! But well done to all of you who braved the cold and stuck it out though! You have my respect.
Here's to success for Apple in Europe - I already think we can put a big thumbs up to the London store - and here's to many more stores in the UK and other countries. 🙂

Sounds like a great experience for everyone in general - too bad I missed it, I was in London about a month ago, would have been nice to pop into an Apple Store on my journeys! Ah well, next time.

I'm going back to the store tomorrow - my sister wants to see steriogram and I want my dad to see how cool the store is, so I'm dragging him along too.
Also, I just wanna say I thoroughly look forward to meeting you guys if there's a big Tiger Launch party at the store. It's amazing how so many of us Mac users just 'click' - i didnt see *any* hostility in the line yesterday (apart from the drunk prat who was preaching about windows to 500 mac users, lol).
