Hey, can you tell me which store this was? I'm trying to compile a list of stores selling the watch at 8 AM. It seems like my store (Grand Rapids, MI) dropped the ball and were turning people away / telling them they weren't selling the watch until 10 AM.
Holyoke, Mass - very small store in Western Massachusetts

Seems to me that they had next to nothing to begin with. Still don't understand a launch of a new product with none available

Another botched Apple launch. Seems to be more the norm instead of an exception these days. I just gave up and ordered online.

Stamford store in the mall had 42mm SS with the milanese loop. Didn't buy one because I want the sport band. Didn't ask about other models except ceramic which was there to try on but not purchase (see my other thread if you're interested in my impressions of the ceramic - short version: didn't like)

I arrived at my Apple Store at 5:30am EST, there was a line of 25 people so I jumped in, waited till 8 and they let the first 30 in. They had very limited stock, and already sold a few before I got in. Luckily they had my space gray 42mm series 2 in stock. However only a few!

Wow! This morning I left the house for work at 9:30am, disappointed about my trip to the Apple Store earlier.

As soon as I left the house, my wife jumped out of bed, got dressed, drove to an Apple store a few towns away, waited in line for an hour - and bought me a 42mm SS!

I just got home, and found it waiting here for me. She is the best :)

Stonestown (SF, CA) had some this morning. Picked up a 42mm SG Sports and did a band swap for Black Nylon.

Maybe call around a few Bay Area stores? Stonestown had several – it was about 10am – and no one was looking at watches. Everyone was there for phones.

Well after going to all 4 Tokyo stores early yesterday morning and striking out, I circled back to the watch-only store this morning for their lottery but was told no ceramic stock - cruised over to the Ginza store and evidently they have one left which now has my name on it - just have to wait through the purchase line w00t! Shouldn't have believed the idiot yesterday morning that told me they didn't have any - the girl today said they had a few!

Just checked valley fair mall in santa clara...the guy told me they didn't even receive any shipments in for the watch LOL...well damn..ill try tomorrow morning though

Ordered by 3:30a est on 9/9...42 silver alum / silver nylon band. Have hardly read anyone talking about ordering this combo...ship date 2-3 weeks arriving Oct. 3-7. Did anyone even want this combo?? I don't get it. Anyway, popped in store in mall today around noon thinking 'maybe' they would have something 42...only had 38 space grey alum / sport band. That was IT from what I understood. Line for iPhone was maybe 20 people and if they had had a watch I wanted to purchase on the spot, there was only one person in that line.

Have to buy from Apple as it's my birthday present in the form of a $500 gc toward watch. Anyone else get this combo, and in general, has anyone's ship date been bumped up (yet?)?

Columbia, MD store ran out just before 5:00PM. I got there around 5 and asked if they had any. Guy up front said they had 42mm SG left. Took my name and said next available associate will be with me. Took about 15-20 minutes for someone to assist. That person told me the last one sold about 15 minutes earlier. Just missed it.

There are simply no series 2 watches in Apple Stores. I've tried nearly every combination in the cities where I have relatives and no go. Nice work, Apple.

Went to an Apple Store yesterday in San Diego CA and asked a rep if they had any series 2 in stock. He said no so I left. Went online this morning at 6:30am pacific, checked the same store for pick up availability and it showed in stock!! Placed an order for pick up today. Either the employee didn't know what he was talking about or they got a shipment in the last 12 hours?

Im almost 100% positive that if you did not get out on the 16th early in the morning you probably won't get a watch until your pre-order ships. I was one of the first in line yesterday and they sold out very, very quickly! If you are very desperate, go visit your local stores and see for yourself. Sometimes the stock will not show up online in inventory.

During the first few weeks after launch day the apple stores usually get new shipments daily, so it's certainly not out of the question that they got a shipment 12 hours after he talked to you. Usually they will receive the shipment during the day and put it into inventory overnight so it will be available the next morning.

I just ordered online for pickup today in Bellevue, WA. Looks like they had only 38mm in a couple space gray version though. I ordered the Stainless Steel with black sport band and a separate Tahoe blue woven band. They also had space gray aluminum with black woven band. I am hard on watch faces so chose the SS so I would have the better crystal. Looks like none of our other Puget Sound area stores had any of the Series 2 at all though. Bellevue is sort of the area flagship so maybe it is the only store that got any for launch day around here.

Showed up at my local Apple Store at 7:50 AM and was told by an Apple employee they couldn't sell the watches until 10 AM. If they are going to sell the phones they should sell the watches too. I'm not a happy camper.

After finding out my store was seemingly the only one in the US that didn't sell watches at 8 AM on Friday (I was even in another Apple Store on Saturday and confirmed they sold theirs at 8), I sent an email to Tim Cook. I didn't get a reply from him but I did receive two separate emails from the Senior Manager and Store Leader at my local store wishing to speak to me and hinting they're going to try and make things right. I provided them with my contact info and am waiting to hear back.

I'm torn between the aluminum and the stainless steel. What was your v1?

My v1 was stainless steel. I think it's a waste of money so I went with aluminum this time around. (And I don't have a lot of price sensitivity; I normally buy what I want. But in this case, there is zero practical difference IMO)

It would be one thing if Apple Watch is a mature product with some staying power after your purchase, but it's not. Apple is clearly still on a market discovery path with Apple Watch.

Plus, I like the aluminum black too given how big the Apple watch is, it makes it a bit more subtle on the wrist.
