We're hearing from a number of readers over the past hour or so that Apple's retail stores are having problems completing in-store reservation pickups for the new iPhone and Apple Watch models. Multiple customers have been told there is a "global" issue affecting Apple's systems and we're hearing there are some long lines building up as customers wait for the issues to be resolved.

Pickup line at Manhattan Village store in Manhattan Beach, California

Some customers have reportedly been told to cancel their existing reservations and make walk-in purchases from available stock, while others are simply being told to wait things out while staff members discuss how to handle the situation.

We'll update this post if we hear more about the situation, but if you have an upcoming pickup window, you might want to be prepared for some delays.

It’s back up.

Caught up in the Best Buy Pre-Order fiasco. Nothing they can do but tell me delay is from manufacturer and I will have some update by the end of the day.

Just ordered my watch and phone through Verizon. I didn't feel like going into that huge crowd, especially since I haven't yet gotten my flu shot. Or my tetanus or penicillin shots. And I don't want to have to get those rabies shots either. And that flesh eating virus is totally terrifying because I don't think we have shots for that yet at all!

So I'm gonna stay home and grill a steak instead.

Gee, I hope I don't get e.coli poisoning... :confused::rolleyes:

I think the biggest delay getting my Xs Max and Wife’s Xs on the iUP this morning was the 3 minutes we waited for the handheld to come up with “Loan Approved”

I've been on phone with Verizon and Apple in a conference call for nearly 3 hours now. Trying to get phone activated. Seems there is a widespread issue with phones purchased via Apple and for Verizon's network. FUN!

I was told after some heated exchange that mine was still coming today. Hard to believe, but we will see.

(Apple website say today. UPS says nothing now)

Best to have it delivered to your home so you can avoid Touch Disease.

You can pre-sign on UPS. There, problem solved.
Risk of having it stolen if you are not present when delivered. I had mine sent to UPS store via UPS website so I knew it was safe and I could pick it up after work. I am picking up the watch in store before that...I hope. :)

Aaannnddd this is why I would never do a preorder pickup in store. Something always seems to happen that prevents it from working smoothly.

What’s the appeal to in store pickup?

No clue. I pretty much only placed my order for in store pickup because I put off preordering our phones until Monday, and by then shipping was out to October, but pickup was still today.

Luckily one of our two phones had the 'logistics issues' emails from Apple this morning, but was confirmed ready for pickup via a 2nd email just a bit ago. Heading to go get them in an hour or so =)

I picked mine up at 8am PST when my local store opened and they were having system stability issues even then. The salesperson was having trouble logging into his device and processing the transaction. Seemed to resolve eventually for me.

Had one of the absolute worst times with Apple retail today. It should not take an hour to complete a personal pickup. Add retail employee smug hatefulness to that inconvenience and it spoils the experience entirely. A customer willing to part with 1k+ for a device (plus subscribed services) deserves much better than what Apple Friendly Center did today. I will send feedback on this every chance I get.

It's not a Verizon apple issue...it's also a Sprint issue their activations online is down..chat and phone holds are like an HR long and oh if u bought a Sim free iPhone for use on sprint u can't activate it cause alot if not all stores have the Sims compatible for the xs and xs max..I'm thinking of just waiting till tomorrow or Monday till I actually swap out my phone lol.

I’ve picked up items (iMacs and laptops) at the Apple Store, the local UPS facility (iPhones), and AT&T stores (iPhones), and I’ve had purchases (watches, phones) delivered to my home. All delivery methods have pros and cons that depend on your situation. In the past, store pickups have gone smoothly, but I’ll see what happens later today—my watch is supposed to be ready in an hour or so.
