I picked up my iPhone XS at 11:30am (Pacific). My wife and I went to get lunch and then we went back to the Apple Store to pickup an Apple leather case for the XS. That was about 12:40pm. Wow, what a mess. The Watch/iPhone preorder pickup line wasn't moving at all and it was much larger than the line I waited in at 11:30 (for only about 2 minutes). The team member that helped with my leather case purchase was keeping his cool but said that it was going to be a lonnnnnnng day if the internal servers didn't come back up soon.

After Apple’s 3am “logistical issues” email, I still don’t have an update at 8pm eastern. The app still says available September 21.

Went to Apple Quaker Bridge (NJ) to pick up mine at 11am today. The line was EMPTY, lol.

Yea I can't believe this happened. My check-in window was 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm. However, because I got out of work at 3 PM, I decided to walk there. Around 3:40 pm is when I arrived. Apparently Apple guy said that the system was down and told us to come back (especially those who purchased online for store pick up). Anyways I had couple more phones at the UPS CC for pick up, so I decided to go there first instead. After picking up those, I came back to the apple store and was working fine.

And then your $1000+ item sits outside your house all day. I wasn't answering to solve a problem. He asked what the appeal was, I was just responding to that.
The $1000+ item might not even arrive at your doorstep; what arrives could very well be an empty box. Happened to plenty of people in the past.

On top of the issues getting into the online store for preorders being delayed for many people, preorders stretching through mid-October even if you were online at midnight, UPS shipments that got delayed, Best Buy preorders that never materialized, and a ton of other retailers who took preorders, promised 9/21, and now all of a sudden don’t have the stock to fulfill them.

I know there are always issues on launch day with shipping and pick up, but for some reason it seems like they’ve really been bad this year. I’ve never been disappointed or upset with Apple’s handling of launch day hardware distribution in the past, but this year seems like somebody messed up big time.
I'm one of the Best Buy orders that didn't happen today. Got an email tonight saying they should have it before October 21st! They've got to be kidding. I called the store and they say it'll be here Monday. Not sure what to think at this point. They've got my money and my Watch. Not a good launch day Apple. Lack of information is very frustrating.

Standing here in Houston waiting for Apple to get their **** together. I can’t believe that they could drop the ball this badly. Heads need to roll for this.
[doublepost=1537578926][/doublepost]I agree! A family should definitely feel the pain and stress of a job loss because I have had to wait for a new phone.

this is crazy! CO store huge line just for pick up...lol give me the stuff I bought Apple!!

Which CO store were you at? We were at Aspen Grove. There wasn’t a line but they didn’t have most of what people were looking for.

Piss off some people to create pent up demand.

Sounds Normal.

Lol. I noticed less traffic in the morning today. Lol

45 minute wait to pick up Apple Watch 4.

Seriously, what's the point of an appointment window?

Worse though — at The Grove store, they put Watch and iPhone pickups in the same line. An iPhone takes time to activate. The Watch is literally a box that you hand me and I leave.

But no.

So dumb. Especially for one of the world's smartest companies.

The retail experience has really declined in recent years, in my experience anyway.

Received my Xs just a while ago.
Thankfully didn't opt for pick-up!
Yeah.. I won’t do the in-store pick up either. Fedex delivered my Xs Max around 2:30pm and that was fine for me. The line, crowds of uptight people getting stressed because they barely have enough time on their lunch break and it’s going slower than expected... not my scene..

I’m really curious what the issue was though. As someone posted, it shouldn’t take a long time to do this, but apple doesn’t want you to walk out of the store without the device being activated, their connections through their data centers to the various carrier provisioning platforms must have been flaking out. When I tried to activate mine with the sim that was preinstalled, the activation system wouldn’t let me select the line I ordered against. (I could have chosen any other line on my account EXCEPT the one I needed it to be on.) So I just pulled the SIM sand used the one from my old phone and it breezes through from there.

Of course 2 days from now my sim will probably be deactivated so I’ll need to keep up with the new one.

Sounds like the same crap they pulled 2 years ago when the iPhone 7 came out. Showed availability on release day so I ordered. Wound up taking almost a month! They did hand out $100 gift cards for the trouble.

First world problem. Your complaint sounds sad from any other perspective. :p

Stuff happens. Now, do what your Apple Watch says and stop and take a long, slow breath. Feel better?
