So funny how Belkin is talking about 'a completely new to the world product' in the video. My local Apple Premium Reseller (www.lab9.be) has been doing this since 2014. When my iPhone 6 was delivered in the store, I took the phone straight out of the box and asked them to immediately apply a screen protector with their device. It costed me 15 euro. And I'm still having the same screen protector since early october 2014! It's the best money I've ever spent on a screen protector.

Meh... It's easier to just buy like 5 screen protectors for under a dollar or less each off of EBay, and apply it yourself. If you screw one up, then you have 4 more chances to get it right. If you do apply it correctly on the first try, then you'll have 4 more as a backup for when the old one is scratched up, or becomes very yellow. In most cases a tiny bubble or two won't be a deal breaker.

Great. Will this screen protector cover the threshold between the glass and the metal on my iPhone 6s Plus SO THAT MY HAIR FINALLY STOPS GETTING STUCK IN THERE?!? I think not :(

Bought a sapphire crystal scree protector on Amazon for $5.99 + free shipping. It protected my phone's screen from shattering when I dropped it on asphalt, and only left the very side corner with a minor crack on it.

Why would I spend $35 for a screen protector from Belkin?

Can we stop calling these "Screen protectors" and just refer to them as films? what do they protect? So ugly and a waste of money. Engineers put so much into designing a great looking and feeling glass for the display and some bone head is going to allow retail employees to tell customers the screens aren't good enough and need these films?

When I worked for Apple, there was a brief period of time when we stopped selling these things...and if a customer ever asked us to put them on for them we said no.

How do you know it protected it from shattering? Did you drop it on the same asphalt in the same conditions without it?

I imagine Apple thought that if people were going to go ahead and put unnecessary screen protectors on their iPhones, it might as well be done right.

Personally, I see more gashed up screen protectors ruining people's view of their iPhone than the odd little scratch ever would.
Right? because the glass is actually less vulnerable to scratches than the films are

This is fantstic, back at during my Apple retail days, so many people would ask us to apply screen protectors, and sometimes the application process would be less than perfect, and oh the problems that created.

I'm all for any improvement to that process, beyond an outright embargo to being able to help customers.

Saw one that was applied with it. While the protector is applied very accurately, they are plastic screen protectors. I don't think they apply glass ones. And while application is very accurate, you could do the same at home with a steady hand.

I'm 99% sure that you don't keep your Phone in a handbag. The Wife's iPhone looks like it's been sandblasted.
I don't, just putting them in my pocket.
My sister does, and from her Galaxy Nexus to Nexus 5, their screen all still look pristine.

On certain phones, sometimes the imperfection comes from the wearing off of the oleophobic coating. Also, there are actually a lot of lower end Android phones that do not use gorilla glass or its equivalent. Obviously these ones would be more susceptible to scratches.
But like I said again, if you have your phone exposed to sandy environment, then screen protectors might be useful. I simply think most people don't need one.
[doublepost=1455123661][/doublepost]Screen protectors has an interesting selling proposition. They are films covering your screen, and if they got scratched, they said they protected the screen, while in reality the gorilla glass would survive those minor scratches easily. So basically we have an industry that are selling their obvious weakness (film being damaged/scratched) as a "protection" for you.

Well, I'm all for free market, so be it. I personally would just save my money. :)

And anyone who pays $40 for a small, thin piece of plastic shaped into the design of a phone screen isn't very bright anyways.

That's an odd move in my opinion. Gives the (false) impression that iPhones necessarily need screen protection ...

For a lot of people, they do. I cannot think of one person I know with an iPhone that has not had a cracked or shattered screen at some point, and I know a lot of people with iPhones.

Belkin is about to make some serious cash due to this deal. I used to get screen protectors from the Apple Store for the sole reason of the staff putting them on. If they messed up, they replaced it. No more stress.

And I just the opposite. Practically everyone I know has an iPhone and yet not one has ever had a shattered or cracked screen. And I too know a lot of people.

I bet everyone without a screen protector has scratches on their screen. They may not see them during normal use, but I bet they are there. I've always used a screen protector. My brother has a 6 plus and claimed no scratches... on closer look the screen was covered in them. He's using protection on his 6s plus. My wife doesn't use a screen protector on her 6s and it's got about 4 scratches on the screen.

I had this Belkin screen protector put on yesterday morning. It has sharp edges which I find quite annoying. Other than that I can tell no difference between this product and another before.

I'm on the side of no screen protector. Had iPhones since the 3GS, and had Android phones since the Nexus one, never put a screen protector, and they all have pristine screens. I mean that's the point of gorilla glass, to prevent scratches.

Now I can understand those that use their phones for work and need more ruggedness, especially if the phone is exposed to sands and dust. But normal use? Save the money.

I totally agree. Screen glass is so hard now that in most cases a screen protector is totally unnecessary and just takes away from the quality of the screen.

The point is some people say their screens don't have scratches, when in fact they do.
Often times, the imperfections of a modern smartphone screen are due to the damage/worn down coating on it (eg. oleophobic coating).

Science wise, it takes more than normal common usage to scratch a gorilla glass. There's something called the mohs scale. Substances lower in the scale cannot scratch substances higher in the scale. Gorilla glass is around 6-6.5, and steel is around 4. So simply by science, even steel cannot scratch a gorilla glass.

Sand is about 7, thus it's beneficial to put extra protection on the screen if your phone is exposed to sand more readily.

Actually, that's the reason it works. The steam condenses around the dust and dirt, and it falls to the ground. The dirt can't float in the air with water drops around it.
Oh, ok. I didn't know if it had time to do that fully. Explains why my bathroom floor is so dusty, lol. Well that and laziness.
