There would be nothing prudent about that in my mind. Being that they open at 10:00am...Also, I don't think Best Buy is the place where everyone lines up to get an iPad. I would not enjoy watching an empty parking lot for 3 hours.

Best buy opens at 8 am on Friday.

I'm getting an iPad Air (32 GB Wi-Fi white bezel). :D My iPad 2 has done yeoman service but at 2.5 years old, its technology is starting to get a tad long in the tooth, especially with no Retina Display and its weight can be a bit much holding it to read e-books.

While the iPad mini with Retina Display sounds attractive, its smallish display even at Retina Display resolution is not so great for me with a pretty steep eyeglass prescription. :(

Thanksgiving

Hope the same for iPad Mini regarding stock.

with retina display and $100 less - iPad mini will sell more than iPad Air.

Does anybody know if Walmart is still going to offer the iPads at a lower rollback price that was posted here awhile back?

All evidence points toward a negative for that.

What evidence? A lot of people only really care about price and getting the newest product. Chances are, a lot of people are going to get the iPad Mini because it's cheaper with the same specs. I think the 16gb iPad is pretty popular because it's the cheapest, not because there are that many people who only need 16 gb.

Outside of size and price, are we sure that everything (including performance) will be the same for iPad and iPad mini?

There's going to be some unboxings, probably tonight.

Good question. Save $20

So easy

I meant that the evidence suggests supplies will be tight. Even "tight" might be an understatement...

this probably explains the iphone 5s shortages. apple has been giving priority for A7's to go into ipads since the sales are sliding

Does anyone know if walmart in canada sells it at a discount like in the US? It's actually $520 here at apple for some reason. I bought ipad 4 last year for $500. I'm buying 3 this year so thats like $70 more I have to pay for nothing.

Showing some manufacturing muscle after that 5s launch.

Umm, I'd say that 9 million iPhones sold in 3 days shows a very strong manufacturing muscle. I'm not sure what people expect from Apple. Apples supply chain and manufacturing ability is the envy of the entire world. No other company manufactures products at micron-level tolerances and quality at the scale that Apple does. They bring aerospace-grade manufacturing processes to products they manufacture at a rate of millions per day.

This is why we have so many leaks now. Because it is now necessary for Apple to begin production months and months earlier than ever before if they want to even come close to meeting demand. Anyone who thinks that supply-constraints are "intentional" simply has no clue. If Apple was artificially choking supply, they wouldn't begin mass production as early as they do these days.

Bleh, looks like Android (aka horrible) whenever I see it with that slim Helvetica-ish font for the clock. Thanks to iOS 7's UI updates, I finally have a knockoff of a knockoff of iOS on my iPhone!

Still looks like a nice tablet. Too bad I can't use it since it won't work for programming :/

It is funny how apple have stock of models that
Nobody care about..
Like the iPhone 5 c and the new air.
Every one will wait for the retina mini, this one will brake the sales record.
I wonder how apple don't see that...
In the last iPad iteration the mini passed the regular Ipad in sales in less then a year.
And in the mini retina this is where the usual fiasco will start, like the mega imac fiasco 1 year before ( the iPhone 5s this year), we will see yet again the usual short supply and people that wait more then 3 month for orders and so on and so on...

I'm still so dissapointed that Apple didn't do pre-orders this year. I don't like fighting through crowds at stores so I've always enjoyed having my iPhone or iPad delivered on launch day.

I still fully intend to order my iPad Air through Apple.com but this year I'll have to wait until next week to get it delivered. :(

First world problems indeed.

Edit: Just read about the personal pickup. Ok, I'll probably do this then.

Yea, pre-order would be nice. But, the announcement of a reservation means crowds will not be as bad.

EDIT - I see you edited about personal pickup. Not sure how you missed it as that was the focal point of the article.

Next year

A8
2gb ram
Touch ID
8MP iSight camera
Offered in gold

If that's right, which I think is, Apple isn't doing any major updates. So your guess might be spot on, then I see no real reason (apart from 2gb) to wait.

- 2GB: We'll just have to see what advantages that might have. It's not like the previous iPads are terribly slow and keep crashing. (except my 1st gen hehe :p)
- Touch ID is not something I couldn't live without, so I think it's not worth the wait.
- An iPad isn't something to make great photos with, better use a good camera for that. + the 5MP is just fine if you'll ever use it.
- Gold is not my color, so nothing there. ^^
