If they had continued on to say, "and it'll be in stores on Friday," I would have gone to one of the three or four nearby Apple Stores to purchase. Meh, either way I should have it on Friday, just wished they'd given both dates up front.
And, once again, if you had gone to the store instead of ordering online, and they ran out before you got there, you would be screaming, wouldn't you? You know that demand usually outstrips supply at a store on the first release day. This may not be the iPhone, but you have no way of knowing if you'd get one in store. By ordering early enough, you know, fairly confidently, that you will get in delivered on Friday. Isn't that preferable?

Why do so many of you think you'll walk into a store on Friday and get it? Maybe you will. But maybe you won't. Just please don't come here crying that the apple store didn't have one for you on Friday.

Maaaan I wish I had the need for the new Apple TV! But with a Mac mini hooked up to the telly their isn't really any need!

I'm not getting bent out of shape over $19 shipping, but this was handled poorly. Had I known for certain it would be available at Apple Stores on Friday (I have 3 within 15 miles of me here in Northern Virginia), I'd have just picked one up at lunch on Friday. Since I didn't know that, and since this is the last weekend I'll have free to play with it until Thanksgiving, I went ahead and paid the expedited shipping as soon as pre-orders went live to have it (hopefully) delivered on Friday. I'm not happy about it and think it could have been handled much better from a customer service standpoint, but I'll get over it. Now, if I paid extra for shipping and it DOESN'T deliver on Friday, then I'm gonna be upset about it...

You don't know for certain it will be available in Apple Stores Friday by the time you get there. This was NOT poorly handled. Everyone knows that there is a preorder date and Apple follows with in-store purchasing. You are always better off ordering a new product online and not going to the store on day 1. This is rookie stuff.

I wasn't planning to get the Apple TV 4, thinking the iPad mini 4 I just got and the 6s I plan to get next month would be enough damage on my wallet for the holidays. It looks like it will be an Apple trifecta for me this holiday season. I'll still need to read a few more reviews and see what apps/games are available in the first couple of weeks to get a taste of this thing's potential. Does anyone know if the A8 is clocked at 1.5GHz like the iPad mini 4?

You mistake me for someone who is foaming at the mouth - I am not. No screaming (or crying, wailing, gnashing of teeth) either way. I'm quite capable of weighing the odds of getting it via either route and choosing an option knowing the risks. Merely slightly surprised that they didn't mention the in-store release date when it went up for pre-order (the way they have for most other device releases). Slightly miffed that they didn't release that information earlier (could have had decent odds of getting it in-store on Friday with no extra shipping charge vs. decent odds of FedEx/UPS delivering it on Friday - Apple's still giving a multi-day window for delivery).

Funny how you excluded the Apple Watch from your comment... guess it is because the Apple Watch didn't release in stores the same day as it release online. Hence why I wasn't about to assume the Apple TV would be available in-store the same day. If Apple doesn't officially announce a date, I'm not going to assume it. I guess it is my fault... </s>

I didn't exclude the Apple Watch. I ordered that as well and chose free shipping. I also received that on the release date without paying extra. True it wasn't available in the stores on release day but I still got it without paying extra.

It will come eventually. That is why I only bought 1 APTV4. Need total of 5 for house (already have 3 APTV3).

I only need one in my house but there isn't really much changes on the new APTV for streaming movies or TV Shows other than now you can get Dolby 7.1. Most of the improvements is the remote, app store (finally) and you can play games now which are great updates but Roku has already most of this and 4K streaming capability, Apple really needs to up their game for APTV but I feel like Apple is less interested for APTV.

Yes I can move to Roku but I rather keep all devices Apple since almost everything in my house is a Apple device and I am subscribed to Apple Music.

Just talked to an Apple CS rep. He said it will not be available in stores tomorrow and they are not allowed to speculate on when it will be available in stores.

In other news, my AppleTV with standard shipping just got a UPS tracking number. Maybe Friday delivery?
