No, no, no. You have NO idea of Friday in store availability. Those that chose in store are taking a chance. They may or may not get one. It's always this way. Those who chose to pay a few bucks for Friday delivery will almost certain get it then. It's a choice. It's far from robbery. Will you be the first to yell and scream if you go to the store on Friday and they don't have one for you?

That's a good point. It assumes that those who paid extra for shipping will get them on Friday, though! Let's hope that assumption comes true.

But you don't know that it will actually be available in the store. What would you say if you cancelled your order (or didn't place one) and got to the store only to find them sold out?

I really think people need to get a little bit of a grip here. This is a new home media streaming toy. It's not something that you need to treat your cancer before it spreads. Waiting a few days will likely not endanger your health.

I don't mind waiting and I have no intentions of canceling my order. Just saying that Apple really dropped the ball with this release announcement and if I knew for a fact it would have been available in-store this weekend, I would have just purchased it in-store instead of online.

At the day of release - aside from some online games - what will the new AppleTV do, that your existing Gen2/3 AppleTV won't? Truth is - not much. Both will stream your shows from iTunes, your iPad or iPhone. It will still get the same shows as the current batch of AppleTV's, and until Apple announces the Program Bundle that has been rumored for years - there is really no overwhelming reason to jump on this product and trash the existing AppleTV products.

Or am I missing something?

Yep, pretty much...other than games.
I will turn mine on for about 10 minutes to check out the UI, etc..
After that, I will shut it off and be done with it until I watch a movie later in the evening.

OMG! I have to cancel my online order and go drive and fight traffic and crowds to pick one up first thing Friday morning because I can't wait an extra couple days to have one delivered to my front door and the thought of people having one a few days before me just drives me nuts! Some people are too funny

Hi guys, any status for the UK order. Mine still showing processing. I ordered the moment it became live !

I expected it to be available in Apple stores Friday or Saturday. Doesn't matter as I don't need it right away (actually, who does?). So, I ordered one. I expect it will be here next week, haven't checked the status.

Yeah I paid for the $17 shipping, but I think for me it works out. No driving and no Apple Store for me. Best new product delivered to my door. Could it be more? Sure, but what it is now is pretty cool. Replacing my dying Apple TV 2.

If it's only worth 10 minutes of your time, I really have to wonder why you would even purchase it? Sounds like you're pretty negative about it.

Hey. UK here, ordered 5pm Monday. Card was charged 3 hours ago and just changed to Preparing to Dispatch.

really dont understand the order filling process of apple supply chain. I placed the order the moment it went live and it still shows processing... And here is a guy who placed the order like 10 mins ago and his order status has been updated to Preparing for Dispatch...

o_O... :apple:?

I'm not getting bent out of shape over $19 shipping, but this was handled poorly. Had I known for certain it would be available at Apple Stores on Friday (I have 3 within 15 miles of me here in Northern Virginia), I'd have just picked one up at lunch on Friday. Since I didn't know that, and since this is the last weekend I'll have free to play with it until Thanksgiving, I went ahead and paid the expedited shipping as soon as pre-orders went live to have it (hopefully) delivered on Friday. I'm not happy about it and think it could have been handled much better from a customer service standpoint, but I'll get over it. Now, if I paid extra for shipping and it DOESN'T deliver on Friday, then I'm gonna be upset about it...

Great, I just payed 18 ****ing dollars for before noon shipping when I ordered so I could have it Friday .....an hour before this story came out

I will say it time for Apple to redo the ordering/preordering process....I think it would be great if they did something like if you live within 30 miles of an Apple Store you can reserve for pickup during your pre order (and those outside the range can only have it shipped)

Mmm this hardly seems fair. So if you leave within 30 miles of an Apple store, you get both options. Fair would be if you live within 30 Miles, you can only do store reservations and pick ups and anything outside that would have to be shipped

I think people who think like that only use it once in a while anyway. I use it as my main TV controller every day and in my opinion just the remote, voice search and new UI will be a plus. Also being able to use Bluetooth headphones is a huge plus for me.

The difference I see here is other Apple product releases have said, "Pre-orders start on date X, and it'll be in stores on date Y." With pre-orders usually timed to arrive on date Y, and a handful landing early. This time, they said,"Pre-orders start date X." (Full stop.) If they had continued on to say, "and it'll be in stores on Friday," I would have gone to one of the three or four nearby Apple Stores to purchase. Meh, either way I should have it on Friday, just wished they'd given both dates up front.

I wonder if they weren't 100% sure about having stock in all stores day one when they scheduled/announced the pre-orders. Either because of not being sure how many would be pre-ordered, or being tight on having enough to stock every store the same day. Even now, with "reports from employees" rather than an official announcement, that might point to it not being in every store on Friday.

I never got the impression that it was a pre-order, but that it was a regular order. The button on the site even says "Buy" not "Pre-Order." It not being in the stores doesn't make it a pre-order. It would be a pre-order if you ordered it three months ago, and the order sat there and then you got charged a few days ago and it went to "preparing for shipment" yesterday.

I hope 9-5-mac was wrong, and all the units are going to pre-orders and not the stores for general sale. I'm still getting my unit (hopefully) by Friday. So, I'll roll with it.

But if 9-5-mac is right, then I think whoever Apple has hired to handle logistics should be fired. Not cool to give people the impression that they had to pre-order to get it right away, and then in the last two days to change their minds and have it in stores anyway.

I have to believe that a large company like Apple would not be so screwed up as they have not a clue when a major product release is coming to the retail stores until a couple days out.

Apple is going to sell significantly more Apple TV units in store then worrying about hardcore fans buying it online, that's just a fact

I ordered it online right away, but I canceled it soon after because I was patient to see if store will just have it. iPhone, iPad, most apple products release in stores on Fridays, there is a long history of this so this shouldn't be surprise

I expected it to be available in Apple stores Friday or Saturday...
This is most likely true, note Friday OR Saturday. I've gone to Apple stores on a number of occasions when product was supposed to be "in stores by..." and been told that it was not yet available. I'm expecting that the priority, overnight shipments may arrive on Friday or Saturday so about the same time as the initial availability in the stores, but delivered right to your door (so, you're paying the extra shipping costs for the convenience and the near guarantee that you'll have it as soon as anyone else).
