Best Buy today has Apple's Studio Display for $1,299.99, down from $1,599.99, which is a match of the all-time low price on the monitor. This is the standard glass version of the Studio Display with the tilt adjustable stand. You can find every Studio Display model for $300 off right now on Best Buy.

The Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K retina display with a 5120 x 2880 resolution and up to 600 nits of brightness. Discounts on the Studio Display have been very rare over the past few months, and this is the first time in 2024 that we've tracked a record low price on any version of the monitor.

If you want to upgrade to the nano-texture glass option, Best Buy also has this model of the Studio Display on sale. It's available for $1,599.99, down from $1,899.99, which is a second-best price on the Studio Display with nano-texture glass.

Apple says that the standard display is engineered for "extremely low reflectivity," but for rooms where there is a lot of glare, Apple suggests the nano-texture glass option with even less reflectivity.

Keep up with all of this week's best discounts on Apple products and related accessories in our dedicated Apple Deals roundup.

Can often get it for a similar price as a refurb from Apple. None there at present, but when the base model ASD shows up, I believe it's $1299 generally. Still, nice to see the street price coming down. Now if I could just convince my bosses to buy us some...

Hopefully we're going to get a 29-30" update soon. At that size, it'd be something like 5.5K, but I'd actually prefer the same 5K as before. That'd be similar to a pixel doubled/quadrupled version of the Apple 30" Cinema HD Display.

An Apple 5120x3200 30" display would be totally awesome at 201 ppi.

If only they would make it 32”
Ditch the speakers, glass and hub and knock off a few hundred bucks I’d be interested

I just want a no frills 32” 5k display with a decent panel at a reasonable price

Making due with 32” 4k until I find such

damn those are chunky bezels. lol

Pretty bad deal still. I got a 1400nit, 4K 160Hz, miniLED monitor for $700 on Amazon. Actually better spec than the Pro Display XDR for a fraction of the cost.

it's not surprising you can find a better deal on a higher quality product that something apple offers.

Inferior ppi ruins it for me. 4K at 27" just isn't the same. Once you are used to the higher ppi it is really hard to go back. Either everything is too big and you lose real estate at true 2x or you have to have to do odd scaling in which text is inferior. Of course it is really dependent on what you do.

And either 3:2 or 16:10 aspect ratio! Can't stand 16:9

It would not be retina quality at 30in with 5K pixels. So, yeah, you're right that 5.5K panel would be what they'd need for 30in.
Yes it would be Retina, at normal recommended ergonomic seating distances.

A 30" 5120x2880 5K display is "Retina" at 17.56" seating distance.
A 29" 5120x2880 5K display is "Retina" at 16.97" seating distance.
A 27" 5120x2880 5K display is "Retina" at 15.80" seating distance.
A 30" 5120x3200 5K display is "Retina" at 17.08" seating distance. <-- Retina-ified Apple 30" Cinema Display

According to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the preferred ergonomic seating distance is between 20" and 40" from the screen. Obviously, 17.6" is well within that 20" spec.

4k != 5k. That monitor has about 56% the number of pixels of the 5k monitor for 54% of the cost. Looks like it's about the same price as Apple's monitor once you factor in the resolution/number of pixels. If 4k is acceptable, then there are many options including that monitor. If you need or want a 5k and have the money for one, you aren't going to buy a 4k monitor.

interesting
there seem to be a lot of apple discounts lately
it kinda looks like they want to discount certain products, but at the same time they dont want to do it directly to keep the premium company image, so they offer it trough resellers instead

Loads of Apple discounts these days from authorized vendors. Wonder if sales are sluggish or if they are planning a lot of refreshes this year and need to clear inventory?
Since the Studio Display came out in March of 2022, I would be surprised if it was replaced this year (certainly possible). I would venture a guess that the Pro Display XDR would be updated first since it came out in 2019 and has not been touched since. Maybe they would align a Studio Display update with the mythical 30" iMac?

Could an updated Apple display be on its way? I would tend to say NO but then again, who am I to know such things? An updated display would most likely support 120 Hz and for this to work, it as well as the computer it connects to would need to support Thunderbolt 5. Which will only be released with the M4 generation at the earliest (= 2025).
But it could also be a 60Hz Mini LED display that gets released this year, potentially in June when the M3 Studio will be released...

Yes, the hypothetical 30" 5120x3200 display I mentioned is 16:10.

I'm currently running a 28.2" 3840x2560 3:2 display. However, its 164 ppi is a little low. While the 21" minimum seating distance is OK for me since I usually sit at 22" or so, I would prefer a pixel density of ~200 ppi. That is the sweet spot IMO.

Apple typically updated the Cinema Displays every couple of years, so in that context, the Studio Display is due for an update this year or next year. It's two years old.
