One thing I have noticed, I can hear the fan(s) ... not super loud, but noticeable especially as I run this off a fanless MacBook Air.
Same setup but I don't hear them and I'm super sensitive to that...have a 2012 iMac and dealt with it's sound of a fan since day one.
If I put my ear up to the top I can hear and feel the air coming out...maybe a faint sound of the fan/s but not really.

It's very very faint, I think my old UltraFine 4K had them as well when it was warm.

Thanks! Yep I got the 3-dots and then goes black. 16" M1 MacBook Pro.
I suppose you're using the Thunderbolt 3 cable that comes with the display?
Did you make sure it's plugged into the display's Thunderbolt port, not one of the USB-C ports?
Have you tried another Thunderbolt/USB-C port on the MacBook Pro?
Is the MacBook Pro reporting that anything is plugged in via Thunderbolt? Check System Information's output in the PCI-Express, Thunderbolt and USB sections.

User Error! Working beautiful now thanks!!

Do they sound normal? In my new display one of them is making an annoying crackling sound… typical sound of faulty fan, I can only hear it when I put my ear on the monitor, or I am standing behind… strange

I wonder if Apple has yanked the software update. Just set mine up, it's running 15.3, and software update doesn't report any newer version (15.4) available.

I think the speakers in the display are more than good enough for use on conference calls and system alerts, but won’t be replacing any decent speakers for playing music.

I’ve heard some say it’s pretty dim for 600 nits
It's not even usable. When it first plugs in it shows the desktop as bright, and then flashes to black and then back to desktop at about half brightness. There's no way it's normal. Doing an OS update and hoping that fixes it.

I got this display and set it up and the glossy finish really helps the colors pop. I have a Dell 27-inch monitor right beside it and the matte finish on the Dell monitor really helps to compare/contrast the color contrast between the glossy finish on the SD and the matte finish on the Dell monitor. I wish more monitors had the option for the glossy finish.

Got mine all setup and working great. Video quality with FaceTime is for sure better quality than my LG 5K. I mentioned earlier, I wonder if some units are buggy causing bad video quality.

Anybody else notice the graphics seem faster than the LG 5K. For example when I command-h to hide a Safari window it minimizes in an instant and seems to do so faster than I remember the LG 5K doing the same thing. I wonder if the A13 chip is helping with graphics processing in some way?

any issues w/ brightness?

Some observations (based on the standard screen with the tilt-and-height stand):
  • There’s a LOT of protective packaging! The screen is wrapped, and has another adhesive cover (easily removed).
  • The included cable is Thunderbolt 3. It works fine with my MacBook. When I plug it directly into my older (8th gen Core) HP notebook, it won’t power up. However, if I use a 2m Active Thunderbolt 4 cable (which is also capable of USB-C 3.2), or my Thunderbolt 4 router (with the Studio Display plugged into it using the included cable), it detects it as a 2560x1440 screen. If I use a 0.8m passive Thunderbolt 4 cable, Windows apparently sees it as 5120x2880, but won’t let my 8th gen drive both displays. YMMV
  • Based on this, it does NOT appear the Apple Studio Display is using the same interface as the 2019 LG UltraFine 5K.
  • The panel otherwise looks very similar to the LG UltraFine 5K. I’ll compare them side-by-side for a week or so. I have the nano-texture on order and will compare that when it arrives.

Mine arrived this morning - base model. The packaging is an ordeal ... not so much to unwrap, but to get the box folded back up for storage.

As others have noted, the display seems dim. The fan noise is not noticeable, but the fans can be felt through the top grating.

I'm using mine with a 2019 i9 iMac, and everything seems to work as advertised. I'm about to see if I'm blown away by the speaker quality. The speakers do seem to move some air!

Dim compared to other 4K monitors?

Interesting. I'm in Canada, so maybe that's it?
Mine still is on 15.3 and hasn’t updated yet through Software Update.

Update: I turned off the Monterey Beta profile, and the update appeared in Software Update.
