7k? Why? 8k would make so much more sense…
And clearly a niche product at a super high price…
Need something affordable…
Apple:Please also make displays for people who are not absurdly rich, Apple. Remember you used to do that?
I think there is no way that there’ll be a 27-30“ for less than $1499 and even that is my optimistic view. I would love to see a $999 Thunderbolt Display successor but modern Apple will never do that. Maybe there’s a 24“ display for $999-$1199, but I’m already accepting the fact that I’ll have to pay at least $1499 for a 27-30“. But I fear that it will be more likely $1799-$2499… I mean there is no competition for Apple in that space. They just have to take a 5K panel, sprinkle some MiniLED and HDR on it and they will have by far the best display for semi professionals on the market. They know that and they’ll charge for that accordinglyStill holding out hope for another ~$999 display in the 27-30" range. Honestly the existing LG 5K monitor with Apple industrial design team doing the enclosure would be great.
well, except, that a lot of high-end cameras already do offer 8k and the industry is moving towards that, while the consumption will be limited for some time, the creation of is starting ...Yeah it doesn't make much sense. The 5k display made sense because it gives you some extra pixels to work with for 4k content.
But I think we're a long way off from 8k content anyway. I mean they didn't even broadcast the Super Bowl in 4k
if it were 9k, I'd get it. 7k seems more than oddApple likes to be “different”. They do 5k when everyone else is doing 4k. Now they will do 7k instead of 6 or 8.
Maybe inexpensive consumer 220ppi displays aren’t possible? I mean, if they were, wouldn’t companies that have a large focus on monitors be making them? Then again, I suppose if the Windows UI can’t handle 220ppi displays, that could be why we’re not seeing them as well.Apple arrogance at its finest. There's a complete lack of consumer 220ppi displays on the market for an optimal macOS experience, and instead of finally providing them, Apple just doubles down on the ridiculous high-end instead.
Sometimes I can't even with this company.
Might be basically a 34 inch ultra-wide screen (normally at 3440x1440), but with 220 dpi.if it were 9k, I'd get it. 7k seems more than odd
We are still so far away from 4K though. Yes, some streaming services have it and there's DVDs. But no live 4K content. even for the occasional broadcast in 4K, like the Super Bowl on Fox a few years ago, that was upscaled.well, except, that a lot of high-end cameras already do offer 8k and the industry is moving towards that, while the consumption will be limited for some time, the creation of is starting ...
and until broadcaster start with 8k, well, we are years away from that ...
Windows does not have too many problems here (some old applications might look a bit blurry, but I haven’t seen that in years). Up until recently, a 7 (or 8)K resolution required two DisplayPort cables, though, to run at 60Hz.Then again, I suppose if the Windows UI can’t handle 220ppi displays, that could be why we’re not seeing them as well.
Yes, like the measly $1,499 for my 23” Cinema Display. Please also make displays for people who are not absurdly rich, Apple. Remember you used to do that?

but isn't that world moving to 8k? I understand that content is still limited, but if Apple wants to appeal to those folks ...Agreed.
32" 8K panels have been out for years and running it in HiDPI mode would be 4K Retina.
I can only presume this 7K panel is meant as a direct replacement for the Pro Display XDR and is aimed at the same video editing crowd who would use it to show 4K content plus all their timelines and menus (offering more space for these than the current 6K PDXDR).
On the other hand, the Bugatti looks so much different from a Civic that everyone can tell they should be priced differently. To most people, a monitor looks like a monitor. So maybe climb off your little high horse for just a minute. Because most of the complaints really boils down to a frustration, not that Apple is building extraordinary monitors for a small professional niche, but that it's not building monitors for its very large non-professional but equally devoted users — who are quite well aware of the fact that they don't need a 6k or 7k or 8k monitor.Folks who have no need for it already crying about the 6k display. This'll make them weep even more and get on their soap box about how despite having no need for one they should be able to afford one. "The Bugatti should be the same price as the Civic!"
Apple has never and will never make a cheap monitor. There are a million other options and there's no money to be made in a commodity market like low-mid level monitors. Look how people complained about the old Studio Displays.Actually, wise one, people aren't complaining that the 6K monitor should be priced low. People are merely saying that they want an Apple monitor that normal people can afford. But thanks for posting your wisdom.
