Haven?

As long as this place is stoked with tons of food and the T virus never gets in there, this looks like the perfect place to get away from the walking dead.
:D

On the other hand, MAC zombies might be the worst kind of zombie.

As noted by iPhoneinCanada, Apple has submitted revised plans for their so-called "Spaceship" campus proposal. The massive new campus is expected to provide Apple with approximately 2.8 million square feet for up to 13,000 employees. Steve Jobs personally presented the original plans to the City of Cupertino in June. Jobs described it as follows:With the exception of the rendering included above, many of the other renderings appear the same as the previous images released. The newly revised documents do include detailed floorplans of how the 4 story building will be laid out. If all goes as planned, the structure could be complete by 2015.

Waste of money!

Apple should save for a rainy day and use some straight glass and practical build practices in it's new building.

webex (now cisco) building on freedom circle, santa clara: more than 12 floors
oracle buildings in redwood city: also more than 10 story
McAfee (formerly Yahoo HQ) is about 8 floors
Sales Force.com: more than 6 floors
Adobe in San Jose: Sky-scrapper in downtown SJC
Next to Adobe you will find Deloitte and Acer
Shall I continue?

Btw, making the spaceship 10 or 100 story tall is just plain stupid

>10 stories was my definition of tall.

With that kind of altitude everything is a waste of money. Why manufacture an iPad? It's just an iPod Touch with 3G communications. Save for a rainy day and keep developing the iPod..

Seriously if Apple thought like you they might not even be around today.

I believe this will be the most visit place on the planet of the earth. We shall see. :D There is no other building as unique, creative, etc. as like this.

This is so sad and disturbing on many levels.

The honeycomb vaulting of the Hall of the Abencerrajes
in the Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain.
This is creative and unique.

I wonder, out of curiosity, if they have a quick way to go from one end of the building all the way to an opposite end.

Where is the "end" of a circle? The building is a stupid idea for an office campus for the very reason you state.

I figred that post was sarcastic. If it was serious, than yes, it is very sad that someone would have so much admiration of a building that is simply round. To me, it looks like a sports stadium. There are plenty of buildings inside, and outside the US that are far more elegant and artistic. For anyone into very modern/futuristic looking buildings, check out Dubai (not that I've been there). Cowboy Stadium in Dallas is quite impressive. It looks like an alien mothership.

Getting around quickly

The building's enormous size has me wondering how staff might get around quickly. Then I thought maybe an elevator that travels horizontally....like in Star Trek. Or maybe a light-rail system, so that you have a sort of glassed-in corporate subway system.

Imagination's getting the best of me. : )

have you had your dose of fanboy today?

I tend to agree with this. Although the building's pretty and somewhat unique, anyone who's worked in a corporate environment will know that getting anything done in a layout like this will be a colossal pain in the ass.

What a mess at the Wolfe exit on 280 when this is completed... We already knew that Cupertino has the worst drivers in the nation (and possibly in the world ?), this will not help...

For those worried about how people get around, have you ever even worked at a large office complex before? Here's a hint: people each work in their own little areas and don't need to constantly be wandering around. They're actually doing work, in their own offices/labs, not running laps around the building.

I worked in a squarish building with a courtyard in the center, and if you really needed to get to the other side (which was pretty much never, but for the sake of argument let's say you work on the side directly opposite the cafeteria and want to get lunch), you could just walk through the center courtyard. No big deal. Various teams are going to be working with their team members in their own sections of the building, and there will be very little need to travel. There's always email, the phone, or heck, FaceTime, if you really need to talk to somebody on the other side and don't feel like walking.

As a San Jose Sharks fan, even though I'm from and live in Montréal, I know a bit about the area and IIRC, the height is restricted because the SJ Airport was built in a manner that it would be dangerous for aircrafts to fly in a city with buildings that are too tall.

Interesting that they won't have to change the initials when they rename the airport. :)

It's nearly always termperate in the area and employees are expected, actually encouraged, to cross the inner court.

Its an inefficient use of space. They could have fit 5-10 times more office space in that space or used 1/5 the space.

Very closed campus with an endless hallway. May be pretty but reeks of a prison.
