Didn't stop Apple from suing a Polish grocery store and Australia's largest supermarket.

The latter one is not a good example because Woolworth's trademark application included using the logo on electrical goods and technology, which is definitely the same market as Apple.

Hmm.. Yeah, it does look pretty suspect to me. Sorry, Apple.
Didn't this happen to them with ios 5-6 era clock on the ipad? I think they got into trouble with Swiss Rail....

I thought you could only successfully sue a company when the trademark is infringed upon in the same market as the original trademark?

Nope, Apple sued a friggin coffee shop, as in a single shop, because it’s logo resembled the one Apple used apparently! So this is kudos to Apple..
Ah here we go, Apple backed down when the coffee shop owner said I’ll go to court with you, the log looks NOTHING like Apples, in fact Apple has a history of suing anyone else who dare use an apple in their logos..

Yeap, they utterly ripped of the famous Swiss railway clock design without asking or paying them I do believe, and hence they sued Apple and Apple lost, unsurprisingly.

As a consumer this has really confused me. Just yesterday I was trying to buy a hat and ended up with an "Amazon Music" app instead. Those logos were too similar.

Everything that happens in China is designed to fleece western companies of their profits and IP and is supported by the government. The only thing that will stop them is Apple starting to move production away from China, it will take time but they should start now.

Try calling your grocery store "Microsoft" and come back to tell us how it works out.
...it's not that easy. It worked kinda like that with Apple computers and Beatles' Apple recording label because the word Apple is quite difficult to copyright (there's always been a store somewhere named Apple or something) so you just have to avoid confusion in the same market. Logos surely don't work like that. You pay someone a lot for it, you don't want it stolen.
Also, to people saying Apple wouldn't be damaging the chinese company... well, think about how the image of your company may change if it looks like you stole Apple's icons as a logo. Pretty sure in this case Apple will win since the previous logo was very similar but the "no damage" excuse is just BS.

No case for money for any damages, and who knew about this KON before apple did a logo that looks a lot like KON's, in most cases Apple has helped KON market by getting them noticed and Apple should revert to the original logo and I don't see KON being hurt by this but helped.

I am sure Apple will go back and may keep an eye on KON just in case they tweek the current logo with rounded edges as I bet they will, then we could see KON being sued by Apple.

Well, then Apple should revert the App store logo to the one pre-iOS11. That one looks better anyway, and shows one of Apple's value, being the cross section of tech and liberal arts. The current one doesn't mean anything other than resembling the word "A".

But if Apple wants Chinese courts to protect their trademarks, they in turn need to respect Chinese court decisions (assuming this one goes against Apple).

On a side note... supposedly the Chinese government is finally starting to take copyright seriously.

Maybe if it’s to their advantage?

Well, accidental infringement is still infringement. I hope the little guy (because all businesses are the "little guy" compared to Apple) wins.

The AppStore icon really makes Kon's logo look ridiculous.

Kon's logo looked ridiculous before Apple "copied" it. The loss in revenue is due to people actually seeing the logo now.

They've already 'won' the publicity stunt game with the lawsuit. How many people here had ever heard of Kon before today?

What a joke. As soon as China starts respecting US intellectual property rights we will be more than happy to start respecting theirs.

So, because the government is corrupt and the copy right laws in the country show little to no respect to foreign companies the businesses in that country should just go without any protection at all? Don't be a hypocrite... No, I don't think damages should be payed, but I can see why the company would want the logo changed. Like someone else said: I see that hat, I think "Apple Store". Cases like that are exactly why trademark protection exists...

Your last line suggest Apple should sue KON. After all, the current App Store icon is just a simplification of the old AppStore icon, which preceded KON's use. If KON makes you think of Apple, trademark law implies Apple may have a case that is is suffering economically from KON's use of this trademark.

Apple has been using the logo way longer than that. Check out this screenshot of MacOS 10.0, from 2001 (notice the "Applications" icon):

The recent change is a natural evolution of that design. There's no way they should win.

EDIT: And yes, that is Internet Explorer.

Makes me realize how much I miss "lickable" Aqua; I'm so tired of flat and minimalistic
