The list of bad news from Apple continues unabated. This is what happens when we have a bean counter CEO.

That's only because you have a website keeping track of this 'ish' filled with trolls and "If Steve were alive.." kind of people. All companies have issues products which is why the lawyers on staff are paid so well. Do you know the last 5 user complaints from Samsung, Google or Oppo?

Anecdotally, I’ve never heard of this issue occurring on any of the Watches on people I know. Saying that to give contrast to how widespread the issue may be relative to, say, the butterfly keyboard where I have heard of the issue occurring on multiple occasions. Similar ratio of devices per friends, ymmv.

My Series 0 looked perfect externally, but the battery blew out the glass and it wasn't worth repairing at $229 out of warranty when I could replace for marginally more.

“Upon information and belief, the Defect is caused by aging or otherwise faulty li-on batteries, or by defective internal components of the Watches that regulate temperature, electrical currents, charging, and other mechanisms that could affect the Watches' li-on batteries,“

In other words they have no clue and are throwing out every possible cause they can think of.

"The plaintiff booked a Genius Bar appointment in August 2018, but upon inspection, she alleges that Apple denied to repair the Apple Watch free of charge under warranty and instead quoted her an out-of-warranty fee of $229 for service."

Looks like she tried exactly what you suggested and Apple refused.

Apple probably determined she'd been wearing it wrong.

And they say Apple products are hard to repair; this one disassembles itself!

Now if only it could pop its screen off on command…

Eh, my battery replacement experience for the S0 was absolutely abysmal so I'm curious to learn more about this one.

If she only had the watch for 9 months, Apple should just replace it. Not sure why they quoted her $299.
Replace the watch, and case closed.

So a dozen similar complaints mean a class action lawsuit? We'll see where this goes. If this was under apple care, apple should have replaced the battery. Don't understand why not.

As a former class-action lawyer, I'm pretty sure the answer will be that this goes nowhere. At best, it survives a motion to dismiss or a motion for summary judgment. There's not a chance a court would certify the proposed class.

Yes, this is gibberish that someone made up after finding isolated complaints on online forums. It's not worthy of our time.

Battery tech breakthrough!

But seriously, we could use some battery breakthroughs. They wear out too quickly, they’re prone to swelling like this, they use cadmium... Battery tech is holding us back.

Make the batteries easy to replace. Then issue is resolved. They're doing it on purpose. I hope they get sued and sued and sued again until the batteries are easy to replace.

Geez. My "series 0" Apple watch is older than hers and looks nicer. What on earth did she do to it?
I have worked with mine on my wrist everyday since launch(series 0) and it looks like it has been inside a wood chipper. Still works ok other then the gunk I have down in the crown doesn’t let it work most of the time.

I'm noticing more hardware issues in Apple's products lately. I'm also noticing that iOS and MacOS are a bit more buggy than past releases (during the Jobs era). I wonder if this is because of cutting production costs or trying to push out tech before it's ready... or both.

Steve Jobs would have never allowed so many issues. People would be fired or screamed at, whatever. But I get the idea that Tim Cook's regime doesn't hold a high standard and is more about inclusion than product integrity.

I've never had an issue with any of my 3 watches so far. If it did happen I'd take it into Apple immediately and any swollen battery would be clearly visible.
[doublepost=1554235230][/doublepost]Really with this crap again?

Apple offers battery replacements in-warranty for free. Out of warranty it’s $79. Either way the battery is super easy to replace, just bring it to an Apple store and they’ll take care of it.

LOL, my dads had this problem and the screen popped off, you know what he did? Took it to the Apple store, they apologized and gave him a new one. I guess he could have filed a lawsuit? If he was bored, and an idiot? I don’t know, sounds like a company doing exactly what they should do?
