LOL, my dads had this problem and the screen popped off, you know what he did? Took it to the Apple store, they apologized and gave him a new one. I guess he could have filed a lawsuit? If he was bored, and an idiot? I don’t know, sounds like a company doing exactly what they should do?
Read the article again. This person didn't a free replacement like your dad. They wanted to charge her.

Really? How do you explain the MacBook Air swollen batteries under Jobs then?

This happened across many generations of macbook pros as well. Swollen aging batteries seem to be a recurring issue.

Happened to my mother-in-law's Apple Watch. I tend to cycle through new technology and so I don't have them long enough to experience this but Apple refused to fix her watch and gave her the $229 out of warranty estimate. I told her I would order a battery replacement kit and I successfully replaced the battery but the steps, detail and time to accomplish it was nutso. The battery in her watch was definitely swollen and is what caused the screen to pop off. After I got it back together following the iFixit guide it is working perfectly. This is definitely a problem Apple is going to have to take care of and is not due to misuse. Can you imagine having purchased a Series 1 solid Gold unit and the screen pops off. Geesh.

Did Apple give a technical reason for refusing? I'm interested. When I brought my iPhone 6s for a battery under the program the rep gave my phone a good looking over before taking it for repair. They're VERY sensitive to "customer abuse" of their products.

I had my Series 1 replaced twice for this issue (no cost). My watch was perfectly taken care of, thank you very much. It literally just made a subtle pop while driving, and the screen was separated.

If it happens again, I'm likely SOL, but watches should not be disposable, and certainly not for several hundred $. I have my grandfather's pocket watch, which is pushing 100 years old, still works. Seems like the battery paradigm should change to something almost like an SD card that can be replaced.

Not to defend Apple but stuff like the Watch and AirPods are operating at the edges of "how much stuff can I cram into this tiny case?" But Apple should just replace unless there's obvious evidence of customer abuse.

Obviously, another user who doesn't read before making comment.

She brought it to Apple and they REFUSED to repair the phone and quoted her $229 for the repair.
To be honest, sometimes suing Apple is the only way for them to move their asses.

If it's not working, return/replace it, why sued? Just another greedy money grab.

Oh noes apple is doomed again and our Lord Savior Steve Jobs has to be resurrected this Easter so that he may save this company...

Ah I miss those days. Back then everything was purposeful and perfect. Every single person was worshipping apple and Steve. There were no complaints, not a single product failed, everything was selling like crazy and everything was just beautiful. Defect was an unknown word and software was certainly impeccable and had everything one would want, nobody was asking about anything.

Butterflies were everywhere, birds were chirping it was like a Disney film the entire time.

Sometimes if Steve made skin contact with people, said people didnt wash their hands for a week or so.

Beautiful times indeed. We didnt have this crap we have now were the Xs is just a minor update from X. We had massive upgrades like 2g to 3g and 3gs. Or 4 to 4s... insane and meaningful upgrades...Innovation 101.

Ah... those rose tinted glasses... i just love them...

PS: I really do value Steve Jobs i hope that this post gets taken for what it is and not something against SJ who was great and his contribution invaluable. But he wasnt Jesus v1.02... like some would want you to think these days...

This happened to me. I took it to an Apple store and they replaced it. If she was under warranty I’m quite skeptical Apple refused to replace it.

I'm not. Really depend sometimes what store and what employee you bring it to I find for Apple warranty stuff or really warranty stuff with any retailer. Most of the time they take good care of you at Apple though.

The list of bad news from Apple continues unabated. This is what happens when we have a bean counter CEO.
Huh? Clearly you don't even have the slightest clue what Tim was doing before he was tapped to be CEO. Yikes! The ignorance is staggering. Bean counter generally refers to accounting and cost. It has very little to do with operations.

This battery is a problem but it has nothing to do with Tim cook "bean counting". It should be noted I've had this problem twice and each time Apple happily replaced/fixed the watch face.

Both of my original Series 0 watches did this. My wife's did this, and then when I upgraded to the Series 3, my Series 0 I gave her did the same thing.

Edit:
Boy, I almost forgot about the issues I had at the Apple Store trying to get this fixed as it was out of warranty. They tried making me pay $229 or something absurd for repair. I basically told them to let me talk to the store manager, and at that point they repaired it for free. But, it was a nightmare dealing with regular store "geniuses".
Unfortunately, this is beginning to become the norm with Apple. If they would just build the watch to be able to be serviced from the standpoint of the battery, it would eliminate this problem. The screen is only held down by a thin adhesive but I guess everything is just held together with adhesive these days. I now take a little more care not to get my watch wet after working on replacing a battery in one. I love the Apple watch but I would not purchase anything but the cheaper aluminum sport model.

Hmmm...weird.

I had a Series 0 replaced due to swollen battery after inspection at the North County San Diego store just 5 months ago, and I’d had it since launch.

Was a super awesome experience. Was hoping I would get a series 1 or 2 as a replacement but got the original...oh well, it works great still!

:eek::eek: Time for an Upgrade S4

Maybe they can turn lawsuits into a service.....I think we’re onto something here Tim....

Unlimited lawsuits for $3,000 a month seems like a pretty great deal.

I’ve never had an issue. When I brought mine in they immediately knew what the issue was and didn’t ask any questions.

Great, in a year from now I should able to get my S4 battery replaced for free as a result of the settlement terms.

bot of the first gen watches we bought for Christmas the year they came out had swollen batteries. the first happened around April last year and apple replaced with overnight shipping of the return box and overnight replacement of the watch. the second one popped off after I gave it to someone in jan and that one was out of their replacement window so it would have cost money to replace.

You can be a sceptical as you want, apple tried to charge me twice for the same issue and only when I made a complaint and spoke to a customer care representative did they agree that “extended warranty” law applied, apple have become so huge that consistent customer experience is almost impossible, just because you had good experience doesn’t mean you have any right to doubt others who don’t or defend the indefensible without proof.
