Tbh, the rename of iPad to iPad air should have told us this was coming.

Mac Mini
MacBook Air
MacBook Pro

iPad Mini
iPad Air
iPad...

It seems obvious an iPad Pro will come along. But as usual people linearly extrapolate what that actually is. I think it's clear Apple doesn't extrapolate anything linearly!

hmmm......
This will run iOS or OSX?

iOS. This would likely arrive just in time for the promised improvements to the new versions of iWork. Remember that Apple went to great lengths to point out that the A7 is a desktop class processor. I expect we'll see a lot of software development coming from Apple and others over the next year. iOS will be hitting the big time in terms of productivity.

You realize that I was mocking you, right? Do you really think there's going to be a Mac Air?

No, I was ignoring your sarcasm and was explaining myself further. That's why I said "you get my point", then went on to explain why I think there'll be a larger iPad.

While I don't believe this is something average consumers will have any interest in -- it will unwieldy to hold and more expensive than an 12" Air of the same 128GB configuration -- it could have a niche following as a (relatively) inexpensive, crash resistant, easily updatable (software), self contained kiosk screen for both retail business and convention displays. Also I can see this as a interesting tool for engineers and artists allowing them to move away from being tethered to a trackpad, however, Apple needs to make the screen more pressure sensitive.

iPhone 5C (yeah, that was a success... :roll eyes: ), iPad Mini, iPad Pro, etc....

Cook needs to stop expanding the lineup. Seriously.

Right...

Airport Extreme
Airport Express
Time Capsule

iPod Shuffle
iPod Nano
iPod Classic
iPod Touch

iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S

All of these products sold at the same time when Steve Jobs was still around. Well technically he died a day before the 4S came out but I'm sure he was aware of it. The iPod thing is a better example.

I just want an iPad for watching movies in my sofa with my girlfriend, wide screen, 4K resolution, feather light and easy to either hold or put in lap, also some option for watching in bed...

Why don't you take the same money (or probably less) and buy a quality, much bigger-screen HDTV? There's very little 4K content, nor much of a plan in the works to roll out much 4K content any time soon. Plus, your hands could be free to interact with the girlfriend instead of getting tired holding up a bigger, heavier iPad. Yes, a big TV may not easily go with you and her into the bedroom but maybe you two could find something else to do in there? ;)

If not, knowing how Apple prices things, you could probably take the same money and buy a great HDTV for the living room AND a good HDTV for the bedroom.

Sounds like you want a TV.

I will buy this.

Right now I try to do as much of my work as I can on my iPad air w/ a nice bluetooth keyboard, and am pretty successful with getting around iOS's annoying limitations.

Revamp iOS 7 for a large screen, give me more power user features and more capable hardware? Take my money.

seriously, take it. :apple:

I've been looking for a reason to ditch my 2011 15" Macbook Pro (that just sits on my desk)

iOS does not look on that big screen. Things can change and I'm all for a, forgive the term, maxiPad but iOS just looks bad on a big screen.

I hope Apple makes this device.

Ok, forget about the Mac mini. But if apple named it the iPad air, shouldn't there be something above that? If not, they would've just called it "the new ipad" or "ipad 5".

"Should" doesn't really come into it. Names don't cause products to magically appear, justify themselves, and gain market sustainability.

"Air" was an attempt to make a splash. Got people talking about it as thinner and lighter, more than the usual for an Apple update (and bucked a trend in the iPad line where the thinner/lighter trend was oddly inverted).

Apple names aren't any more well thought out than their competitors. They paint themselves into a corner more often than not with their clever naming. Cases in point:
  • Pre-release debate about the iPhone 5 being called the iPhone 6 because it was the 6th generation phone. People got really heated about this.
  • The new iPad threw everybody for a loop. Many just stopped paying attention at that point.
  • Apple can't get people to stop asking for an rMBA, even through the rMBP 13 is exactly what people are asking for. People want that Air moniker.
  • People reading all kinds of nonsense into the 5C naming. China, Cheap, Crap, Consumer.

If you want to keep reading the tea leaves, go ahead. Apple probably loves that people do that, it helps keep rumors generally inaccurate.

For me, give me car naming any day. '76 Buick Skylark. I know what that is.

It's called a TV.
