Bob Mansfield

His next special project should be to try and create an iPhone with a 5 inch screen, if that can be done by Apple. Not sure since they are lagging very far behind in the technology.

mmm, so the problem was not Scott Forestall. I think the new flat design mafia is at full throttle (Cook, Ivy, Federighi)

This seems to be the result of Apple being short on skilled engineers in certain fields. Although iOS 7 and Mavericks seem to be on schedule and look to progress fast, unreleased projects are all behind schedule. Tim Cook's focus is different in Steve Jobs' where Steve Jobs would choose a new project over an existing one.

I think Mansfield is now actively working on new projects instead of discussing them and Cook is becoming more of a micromanager instead of the executives manager he was before.

Retirement

He was scheduled to retire next year. They begged him to stay on until they got their ducks in row. Now everything is order they can have him ease into retirement. Apple was in a critical state a year ago with the executive shake up. Now things are more stable, they don't need him to continue delaying his retirement.

One of the presidents of our brands at my corporation was demoted/transferred to special projects/new business because performance at that brand was down 3 years ago. He is still working with our company and actually has done some pretty great things with our international growth.

you doomsday people realize he already resigned a year ago, right? that he stayed on in his new role after convincing by Cook?

wow!!

After reading these post the only accurate conclusion that can be made
is that the average mac users intellligence is decreasing since Steve has left!

So many inaccurate comments about Tim Cook!

1) First how many on these boards have any "real" idea what is going on behind closed doors? Its amazing how many people pass judgements about someone based on inaccurate rumors!!

2) Do you really have any idea about Apple's plans? Did you know they are still executing a plan that was laid out by Steve Jobs in 1997?

3) Did you know many products that are in the pipeline as well as on the drawing board are dependent on technology that isn't even available yet?

4) At last I checked Apple is one of the most profitable technology companies in the US and one of the most profitable in the world.

what is a "product man" this is BS new age buisness talk complete nonsense.
Was Steve Jobs a "product man".
You guys have absolutely no idea how products are developed and approved at Apple. Everything you religiously believe in is based on complete rumor.

What seems to be the common thread is people inhale BS stories from web sites and media assimilate them and regurgitate them on these forums.

‘Everybody Loves Bob’

Monday, 29 July 2013

After asking around, word on the Cupertino street is that there’s nothing to read between the lines regarding Bob Mansfield no longer being on Apple’s executive team. Apple’s statement means exactly what it says — Mansfield is well-liked at all levels within the company and truly is working on special projects (read: new products). No euphemism there. Compare and contrast with last year’s ouster of Scott Forstall, where Apple said:

Apple also announced that Scott Forstall will be leaving Apple next year and will serve as an advisor to CEO Tim Cook in the interim.

“Advisor” was a euphemism. “Working on special projects” means just that.

There’s nothing punitive with Mansfield’s role change, nor health problems or anything like that. Just a more focused role on certain new products. His un-retirement as a senior vice president last year was always intended to be transitional, not permanent.

Basically most of us don't know anything about Apple's plans. All we can do is make educated guesses. That's all we got so that's how we're going to roll.

Sure, they're able to make 9.7" and 7.9" devices, but not a 5" phone.

A lot of "educated" guesses I see here are quite ridiculous.

Fat jokes ... really? Shame this got so many votes up, really says a lot about some MR members.

Wasn't really a joke. Thick hands vs. Thin hands. A person might not consider that the thin obsession of iProducts could have a negative side. I'd hazard a guess that most of the upvotes were from other people who find the current sharp sides uncomfortable.

You're holding it wrong.

You seriously find holding an iPad uncomfortable?

Ok this I don't get, you're poking fun at the idiocy of Jobs' statement that people who were holding it right, were holding it wrong, which seems to support what I said, but then you ask if I'm serious... so yes the sharp edges with that much battery weight are very uncomfortable for me and most people I know. We all have wrap around soft cases. I prefer the shape of the first iPad, I think the new mini styled iPad will be far more comfortable. Can't wait! :)
