Very interesting. As I've said before, I predict it will have Verizon AND AT&T built in, and you'll pay Apple monthly to get service. Why make iPhone users sign up with another company? Not a great idea.

That would be really nice if you could tether off it and not have any bandwidth limits since Movies/TV shows will eat that up. But somehow I doubt that will come about.

I would have liked a USB port, FW and audio in (for multimedia stuff), but I guess this is lining up not to be a real Mac OS machine, but an iPhone hybrid.

I like the slight round of the iPT/iPhones. Though not a big deal, it would be good to have something with a tiny bit of volume, but not with added weight. Anything under 2 lbs. is ok, but lighter is better.

3G... -_-; I hope this thing doesn't come with a need for a service. That would kill the deal.

The 3G and 3GS casing is really easy to break. I doubt it would work on that large of a case.

Everyone I know who had a 3G (including myself) had the plastic crack in some way. My 3G-S still shows no signs of cracking though.

so i won't be able to play Logic Pro on this? I'm fine if it's not a processing power house, but i wouldn't pay $800 or a grand not to be able to play basic mac applications.
Logic Pro is a "Basic Mac Application" ?

I sort of doubt that Steve Jobs would release something of this importance if it is just a big iPod. While it would doubtless be cool, it would not break new ground. If it's just a big iPod touch/media gizmo/reader it better come in at $599 to $799.

So, I'm betting it runs a full version of OS X optimized for touch, and it will be an alternative to the MB Plastic, and will be more of a netbook substitute than a big iPod. It will also sport the media gizmo/reader functions... which will justify a $1,000 pricetag.

????????? Ok, so maybe the boarders dont read aluminum, but it sounds like that is pretty close.

I hope they don't go with the 1st-generation iPhone tax. Or bundle 3G service with the tablet.

same because i get the feeling it will be a stupid wireless plan where you have to pay monthly on top of the tablet... surprise surprise like they do with the iPhone... plus that means the UK will probably see it well after US which i'm hoping will not be true :( plus i don't get why everyone hates on the plastic iPhone case, it looks nice and doesn't scratch easily, unlike the aluminium

If it looks like the mockup it'll look great - unimaginative, slightly underwhelming - but great in and of itself.

I definitely think it may only be an enhanced iphone - no doubt with a lot of good features but more an evolution than a revolution. Take the macbook air - it hit as much fanatacism as the tablet has but what did it really offer? Just a much more portable computer with the first ssd drive in a mac and introduction of aluminum unibody enclusures. Truth is that it wasn't that great imo and we should all brace for the same thing to happen again. Not to say I'm not excited though...

I want to see TWO things come January 27th

(1) iPad - the tablet had better have a scratch-resistant backing and not be made out of aluminium because it'll get marked all to hell, despite any third-party sleeves that will protect it from wear/tear.

(2) MacBook Pro 17" - While I don't expect it on the 15", I want to see a carbon fiber unibody on the 17" model. Apple made advances in a design process using such material (http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...-for-improving-aesthetics-of-carbon-fiber.ars). If they don't announce this on January 27th, I'll be disappointed. BAD Apple! BAD... Apple! (shakes a stick at an Apple).

I wish it were essentially that in the picture. I'd buy it without hesitation. If it has 'screens' like the iPhone & buttons etc, I'm not so interested. A Dock with the Finder and top menu bar please. :)

No way

This won't be it. I don't see them using a "blown up iphone" case anymore than the iphone used a "blown up ipod" case. It isn't like apple to use the case design for one product to be used in another entirely new product. Even with existing products. The iMac had several different case designs, the lamp, the all in one CRT with handle on top. I think you will see a new design for this new product. I just don't buy that it's going to use an enlarged iphone case.
I think Ives would never settle for that. It's too easy. That's my opinion. We will soon see.

what about sync functionality like iPod if it runs on full OS X? just copy the file into the tablet and manage your Mac and Tablet?

Please somebody explain to me how your supposed to hold this thing? While using Multi-Touch? While typing???

Well, typing would probably involve a split keyboard that can be reached with your thumbs on either side. Multitouch would involve either: (1) holding it with one hand while the other gestures; or (2) Apple has created antigravity and the device will simply hover in front of you. Maybe THAT'S what all the excitement is about.

That would be exciting!:D

Maybe by making it easy they held down their R&D costs and can deliver it less expensively. One can dream.
