I would laugh so hard if the Tablet isn't annouced next week ( but I do think this is unlikely - not being announced )

If the tablet has been delayed, until May / June as rumours suggest.. Apple/SJ, apart from the AppleTV, has never announced a product so far in advance.

Just like the fever pitch that was raised regarding the new iPod Touch with a camera. to this very day I laugh my self to sleep every night when I think about all the rumors and lies that came out here and across the net. All the cases that were being made in China with the little camera hole in the back etc.

How funny! :D:D:D I just about wet my self laughing when Jobs introduced the Nano with a cam :D Im going to wear a diaper on the 27th cause this should be good! :D

I need a iSlat or what ever this rumor is all about like I need a hole in my head, just buy a damn iPhone already and be done with it.

Apple announced the first iphone at Macworld in Jan. and then released the iphone in June.

The tablet will most likely be available within 60 days.

Six days to go.

is it the 27th yet.;)

I don't expect that all of these patents will make it into the tablet but I'm convinced many will. Especially the Touch oriented ones.

As to the price tag of $1000 that is way to much. A tablet by definition is a limited device, why pay laptop prices for such a device.

If there is a tablet and it has GPS, I hope it also has a magnetometer/compass. Then people could use it as a map, too. Here's my thinking: you know how some zoos, forest preserves and other tourist destinations give you paper maps? Well a tablet w/ GPS & a compass could be used instead. You can easily figure out where you are and which direction you need to go. I've had enough experiences hiking in forest preserves where I got lost or I accidentally take the wrong trail.

Maybe these places that have hikes or different exhibits, you can download use an app, use GPS to tell you you're at a place with a downloadable map and see how to get to your favorite exhibit. Add in a Google map/earth thing so you can see your route & destination from above & street level. Just my 2¢

Because it's an Apple. Look at all those designer jeans, purses, & other clothing, cosmetics, or whatever there are. There's enough people out there to buy things based on brand name to justify charging that much.

If you don't like these "leaks" then why are you going to site called MacRumors? Why not just stick to reading "hard news" sites? (To the extent they exist).

Obviously some of the reports are B.S., but as history has shown, some are probably more right than not. We'll find out Wed. It's up to you to weed them out and decide what seems realistic and what is unicorns.

I don't know. I just ask for some accountability. Let's hear these sources. I have always hated the articles that claim "from an inside source." Those ones are usually dead wrong anyway. Leading up to the iPhone was the worst with those.

I'm here because I love the articles with actual quotes from real people, pictures, patents, analyst info, supplier info, app developer info, etc.

Apple buys lala.... for tablet and more

I can't wait for the tablet... I only hope I'm not too let down next week.

P.S.

Does anyone else think/hope that maybe :apple: bought lala so they could make iTunes service like movie/t.v./music like lala's music service. This would really free up my hard drive's.

Unbelievable post.

For the same reason the Macbook Air costs $500 more than the Macbook even though it isn't as fully featured (except maybe for size). This could also be said to be true about the tablet. More convenient, smaller? Plus the cool factor.

BTW, what ever happened to the Macbook Air? Nobody talks about it anymore and it's design doesn't match any of the new systems. Will it be EOL'ed with the introduction of the tablet?

it is like you can't connect your own dots here. AIR failed because it was grossly over priced for what you get. An overpriced Tablet will fail in the same way if consumers evaluate it's value and find a huge negative like they did with AIR.

Apple announced the first iphone at Macworld in Jan. and then released the iphone in June.

They had to do that because they had to get FCC approval for the iPhone, which is public or at some point becomes public, so the cat would have been out of the bag. They may be in the same position with the tablet/slate/pad because it is a new product (if it exists).

Ah... yes....

If the Tablet communicates on a cell phone network ( i.e., you have to stick a SIM card in it ) it will have to get approval.

Hence the long lead time between announcement and availability.

Except that iPhone thingy. That was announced nearly 7 months in advance in early January.

problem is Apple has laptops in that range that are small, thin, and fully featured.

I have to disagree.

The ipod touch is a pre-cursor to the Apple Tablet.
Nope, every indication is that the iPhones interface came from a tablet project. The whole project was put on hold to get the iPhone out. Anybody that has done iPhone development should be able to support this as there is a huge amount of capability in iPhones OS.
The tablet will be much more powerful and more full featured than an ipod touch.
Well yeah but then again all new iPod Touches are more powerful than the old models. How much raw performance the tablet will have is an interesting question as there is a wide array of possibilities.

As to being more featured full that is also wide open to interpetation. Especially if both devices run iPhone OS 4.0. I expect to see the same apps but they will be screen size and performance aware. Thus something like Safari could add more controls on a larger screen device and maybe run flash on a dual processor machine.

As to the iPod Touch, Apple has pretty much said that the current models are built for a price point. That doesn't prevent them from offering higher performance models at a higher price point. Due to the very reasonable rumors that Apple has a two prong chip development program, with one for handhelds and one for tablets, I could see the coming Ipod Touches becoming very powerful. In other words Apple could offer a new Touch with 2X todays performance. That may or may not be a high end Touch because the new SoC should lower costs for Apple and increase performance and battery time.
$1000.00 is not a lot for the tech that will be in this device.

This last line here is the most irritating. The problem is we are talking about a fat iPod Touch here. It should not be much more expensive than a Touch. Maybe 2 to $300 more but beyound that I don't see long term sales at $1000. Apple needs a base model under $500.

Or the Cube, which if it were introduced at $1299 would have been a much bigger success than the $1799 it was released at. Especially given that it was basically a less expandable tower which sold for $1499 at the time.... (note, I think I have the correct pricing for the release of the Cube, or at least within $100)

Except that iPhone thingy. That was announced nearly 7 months in advance in early January.

And for this, if they are really going after publisher for content to sell the device, will need as much time as possible. They will need to distribute a publishing model, give them time to figure out how to use it to convert their existing content, plan the development cycle, and convert the material. This is not going to be as simple as re-encoding to MP4/AAC like they did with music. Even a simple conversion from an existing PDF is going to have to be proof read against the existing content to make sure that the conversion went right. I would imagine that even 3 months would be pushing it, especially in an industry that is accustomed to waiting at least 18 months (and up to 3 years in some cases) to adopt the latest version of existing software in their workflow.

I couldn't agree more. It would be VERY green and VERY functional to simply offer a BTO option of a double battery. I have been on this rant for years. Some how this goes against Steve's grain. Steve, please!

Rocketman

Let's see...one (battery)unit charge per day for 4 days = 4 charges. Two (battery) unit charges every other day for 4 days = 4 charges. No green savings. Extra battery manufacturing and disposal green costs aside. And functionality aside, of course.

This tablet has been ridiculously hyped..no matter how good it actually will be, people will be very angry because Apple never meets everyone's expectations after an announcement...people always find something to complain about. So don't get your hopes up, people!

Dave

Air was an exercise in how this they could make somethin', nothing to do with practicality...
:D

A boon to Freelancers!

If Apple are going to sell books, magazines and short stories via iTunes which I expect/hope they will then it will be a boon to freelance publishing to iPhone/iPad/iPod owners.
:D

It's strange how so many people assume that the MacBook Air failed, especially considering it's still on the market after what, 3 years? Even the Cube didn't last that long. No, I don't think it failed--it just hit a very narrow market.

Given that a lot of C*O's are carrying these things around, it served its purpose, which is to get some mindshare in the higher levels of corporations.

Most of which will be outsourced to India as more and more of the production of books is today. It is a more cost effective to a large firm in India and receive a finished file over the internet than it is to manage a lot of small venders in the US. And since a lot of the publishing venders have gone out of business or have been bough out by or are partnered with Indian companies there probably is not going to be a lot of work that will stay here.

Yup, Apple may have forecast a low amount of sales. As long as sales of Air reached that sales estimate - it has succeeded.

Apple aren't afraid to pull a product if it doesn't sell well as forecast - "a failed product" - i.e., iPod HiFi.

Barely two...
