My personal guess
I think you are spot-on - except for a tiny little bit.
I guess Apple will roll out the tablet with LTE-capable hardware and will bring it as a Verizon-exclusive. I just googled and found out, Verizon has some spots, where LTE is working.
As being a new technology you cannot only hype the Tablet as 'the next BIG THING', but you are also free to ask for ridiculous amounts for your data plan.
Apple will get the hefty subsidy, and Verizon will have a nice upfront of regular cash-flow for rolling out LTE in even more cities. Yeah, there will be whining and white spots in the beginning - but the more I think of it, the more it makes sense to drag thousands of people into a really expensive contract as long as you can have it exclusive.
I was just asking myself, if the USA had really rolled out nationwide 3G coverage, if there was not a device like the iPhone.
"Priced" low. Not low cost. Agree the "price" will be low if subsidized with a data plan and a cloud plan. Those plans will probably cost $40-60 a month.
