OH MY GOD! LOOK AT THAT! I WAS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY UNAWARE!

I mean, like, a real stylus. With a fine point tip and pressure sensitivity. And yes, I know about the Jot Touch 4, but the problem with that is only so many apps support it.

Really glad I was able to help you out! ;)

Why do people keep spreading this lie? For many years now BOM (Bill Of Materials) for every Samsung Galaxy S phone generation is way higher than that for iPhone (currently by $50). In fact iPhone has the lowest BOM of most high end smart phones. It is Apple that makes their phones cheaply not Samsung. They do charge more for iPhone than other companies for their phones but that is a different issue.

So you are saying, that the Ad from Apple of being greener, is correct then? They use less materials and/or have a simpler, streamlined production process?

Samsung's BOM is higher? What a waste of money then. My Galaxy Note with its flimsy back cover, the USB port with loose contacts, the continuous battery problems, etc, just didn't scream "well made" to me.

Neither did my wife's S II, which had to be sent for servicing several times.

But it's all good now. We changed to a LG G2. Beats the Samsung in most aspects and is much cheaper. So I don't mind the plastic :p I see lots of my colleagues changing from Samsung to other brands as well.

Ah well, let's not get too much OT about Samsung. They are losing momentum in the mobile segment anyway, as indicated in their last financial reports.

There was one thing the Newton had over the iPad, though.

A stylus.

I want a stylus for my iPad.

Do you stroke your partner's face, lovingly, with a stylus? Feel free to take a step back into the 1990s if you want - Apple said they'll stay here if it's okay with you.

You already have one for you company issued Note 3. You don't need one for your iPad. :D:D

They revoked it after the Olympics, when I accidentally blew up that hot dog stand and started that whole Ukraine thing. :(

Oh, gawwwwdddd.

Okay, tell me what's so "backwards" about being able to write and draw with a stylus? Your fingers are good for some things, like navigating the UI and whatnot, but it's not perfect for everything. Sometimes, you want the precision and functionality only a pressure sensitive stylus can provide.

The stylus is a requirement for artists, fair enough... so buy one? Apple didn't make the iPad as an alternative to a Wacom tablet, they made it as a future-looking general purpose consumption device. The rest is history - styli are available, so get shopping :)

I know, I've goofed around with a few. The problem is they're not fine point styluses, and I don't like the capacitive nubs nearly as well.

Hell, I might just buy an Adonit Pro just so I can be halfway there. But really, there's no reason for Apple not to throw in a Wacom style digitizer by this point. Every other competing tablet has one. Why not the iPad?

Every other company competing with Apple, doesn't mean Apple are competing with every other company.

And this is the reason why Apple no longer has the massive lead in the tablet and smartphone markets it once had.

They kickstarted the modern tablet, no doubt about that. But it's starting to seem that everyone else is trying to expand their potential, while Apple continues pigeonholing the iPad in accordance to 2010 standards.

Macrumors should start a stand up comedy night. Sorry, you were serious - I didn't mean to mock ... *attempts straight face*

I'll refrain from quoting Tim Cook - you know how to Google for quotes I am sure.

The refrigerator and toaster thing, right? Thing is, putting a stylus digitizer into an iPad isn't stuffing a toaster into a fridge just to expand its feature list for the sake of it. Tablets are PERFECT for this type of functionality. The vast assortment of styluses and paint apps already available for the thing are proof enough of that.

I wasn't "going anywhere", and I wasn't being facetious. Your original comment that I responded to was simply wrong. If you'd like to clarify what you actually meant, that's fine. I'm not getting into the "who made what remotely similar product first" argument.

Don't worry you were being facetious but it's not a big deal. The problem with the who made what first discussions is that most people that think Apple made X product first are wrong. So they usually try to avoid it.

They're just facts, no need to be afraid of them.

Tell me how an electronic device become stale?

A phone can become stale if there are no useful new features or it is just more of the same. Apple and samsung both haven't come out with anything really exciting in the past 2 years.

The problem with your logic is that you have to realize it's just a phone. Second thing you have to realize you can only change the GUI only so many times. And what exactly are you expecting Apple and Samsung to come out with because their phones are already amazing. And if you're actually using the phone and being productive with it will never become "stale". Stale is just a term that tech junkies use because they just use the phone way too much and not very productive with it. Almost forgot touch ID is very exciting and very useful

I agree. While I was on the bandwagon that heralded the death of the stylus, I've come to appreciate the developments Samsung and Microsoft, and Wacom and others have made with their stylus/digitizers on tablets and smartphones.

The 3rd party options for iOS stylus devices are terrible at their very best. The ones that are remotely decent are expensive. All of them feel like I am using a husky pencil in kindergarten class.

They're getting better though. The latest Jot and the upcoming Yufu look pretty decent, and have smaller tip options. They still don't seem like anything I'd want for daily use though (nor does any other stylus for other platforms).

After posting here last night, I hopped on Google and checked what new stylses were available for the iPad. Turns out they're not all big ass magic markers anymore. Adonit has the Jot Script, and Lynktec has the Apex. There not 100% perfect. You still don't have pressure sensitivity, and they require batteries and a bluetooth link, but they work in every app on the iPad right out of the box.

Plus there are some coming that don't require a bluetooth connection to do their thing. Though this one still requires a battery, hell if I know why.

It's not all doom and gloom for iPad styluses.

Very nice updates indeed. Thanks for the references. Needing a battery does kind of suck, but I am just spoiled. The Dell Venue 8 Pro stylus needs a battery as well, and that was a big turn off mainly because it was first party, and not an after market decision by Dell.

How heavy does it make the stylus, and how well does it work overall? I'm asking because I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a Jot Script, and I wanna know roughly what I'm about to get into.

Hilarious how all the Apple fanboys immediately leap to the offensive, despite Apple never actually referencing the company. I guess even Appleites know deep down who's copying whom. ;)

You totally did a "Samsung" with my original post...
