Not that I'm saying you made this up, but I don't believe you. :) The iPhone 4 will only lose 2 bars even if you death grip the hell out of it.

Incidentally, I can only make mine drop bars if I squeeze the hell out of it. Laying a finger on the seam doesn't do anything.

You don't have to believe me. It depends on location. I've seen iPhones with full bars being gripped tightly and lose 3 bars. Others have full bars, and go to none. This was before 4.0.1 so the formula was totally wrong:D.

End conclusion: iPhone 4 seems to have an antenna issue tat is more severe than other phones. Apple is expected to make products that "Just work" based on their advertising. When a company makes a big deal about a magical product, and it has a pathetic issue, the media pounds on the issue. But If you don't like the iPhone 4, don't buy one, If you have reception issues, bring it back. You are entitled to a working phone. I think its childish of Apple to grip other phones like a monkey and say Hey, they have the same issue as us. Because its simply not true.

That being said, more people have no problems with their iPhone 4. If you have a problem with it, stop complaining and do something to resolve it.

This is what gets me. You say it only loses 2 bars.... for YOU...in YOUR area. People can't think far enough out of the box Steve made for them to realize that people experience this issue differently. I hope all you people who swear that there isn't a problem at all (because YOU don't have the problem) have to move soon and end up in an area where you experience the same thing all of the time. THEN you'll be the ones on here complaining.

Question? After all these years using cell phones, why did it all of a sudden show its face? There were connection issue with the 3G, that is when Apple manipulated the bar strength, remember? yet there was no mention of the "Antennagate"

What is Apple trying to show? The iPhone 4 has the same bad signal issues other phones have? This is not a typical Apple move -- they usually showcase the positives of their own products.

Don't get me wrong; I love my iPhone 4. I just want Apple to move on and keep highlighting the positives.

After years of trashing Windows on TV.... what kind of "highlighting the postives" are you talking about?

Apple isn't being childish at all. These other companies are putting out statements saying their phones are perfect and trying to damage Apple's reputation (ie, hurt their business). Apple has an obligation to defend their reputation and business. They just choose to do it in this mildly amusing expose kind of way.

If it can easily demonstrated that these phones suffer from a death grip too, why should Apple alone be the one taking all the hits over it, not just from the press but also from other manufacturers who are jealous of Apple's success?

Jeezzz.. Is Steve paying you people? You all love that death grip term, don't you? Vie my sig or any number of youtube videos showing calls dropped, data halted when that spot happens to be touched. You can touch 1mm above or below it, but if you bridge to two sections with anything at ALL, in certain areas, you are done. In many areas around town, I also do NOT have this issue, even when touching that spot - so it is localized. Wait until you guys are out and about...if you leave your houses..ever...

For anyone dude. And I don't live in a good area at all. It drops two bars in any area. If you've got 1 bar in your area, don't squeeze your iPhone to death. Now, this is referring to the 4.0.1 update that recalibrated the bars.

Incidentally, seeing the Droid X loses so many bars backs up what Anand pointed out, which is that the Android software uses a formula similar to what Apple's old formula calculated. Apple took all the hits and mocking over that too, while the Android phones get a pass.

Its your demonstration I want to see? Being you have three phones in same place at the same time, this would be great?
Or I call it ********!!!:apple::apple::apple:

I'm not allowed to cut the security cable off a Droid X and run into an Apple Store to test this. Sorry. But YouTube videos show iPhone 4 going from 5 bars to "Searching" and dropping the call. Go on YouTube. Videos to prove it exist.

Here is a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wzn8QhrYIvI

Its not a phone call, but it demonstrates how holding your phone normally interrupts your download or web surfing

Others are playing games too, why can't Apple?

All the other companies are playing dirty ad tricks on Apple. So Apple is not allowed to fire back? Apple is only doing this in a page in their website that not everyone knows about. Competitors are doing it print, web, television, etc.

I don't know, Jeff. Is Google paying you?

who cares apple?

it is like apple does not have any defect or anything like that ...

sigh after upgrading iOS 4.0 in my old iPhone 3G it keeps dropping Wi-Fi connection

definitely apple QC or QA went down the toilet

Hmm

I see Steve has brainwashed you too. Wait until you go to an area that doesn't have the STRONGEST AT&T signal available, then try it. If you even barely touch the phone in the wrong way, you lose a call. It's clearly not the same as other phones, as they would like you to believe. I've owned dozens of phones prior to the iP4 - never this issue. It's a joke and the people who believe this Apple PR BS haven't a brain far enough developed to think for themselves.

Not really. I often work far from the Twin Cities as an I.T. Administrator and often have to make and receive calls in the basement server rooms of office buildings with dodgy reception.

I've found the iPhone4 is the ONLY phone that's been able to hold the darn connection in such places. Especially in outstate locations like Stillwater, Minnesota or Hudson, Wisconsin.

So, I think for myself that it WORKS BETTER.

wow... apple is more and more becoming one of the lamest companies out there...:(

Why? For defending itself!?

You guys are truly unbelievable. You think this is some silly game of Apple just pointing fingers?

They got run through the mud for an issue that isn't even a big deal. For those asking, "Yes, but does the (fill in the blank phone) have a bridge? No, but holding phones in the same way you'd hold an iPhone 4 gives a dramatic drop in signal. Period! And if you think bridging the gap shorts the antennae, you're not getting it. The metal bands around the phone are the antennae, meaning you bridge the gap regardless of how you hold it. Each finger connects to your hand if you haven't noticed. And also if it were shorting the antennae, it wouldn't work AT ALL. Meaning no one's iPhone 4 could make a call. This is ONLY about a drop in signal when simply holding the phone and Apple not only has every right to defend itself against this bogus pile on, it SHOULD defend itself.

All of you running any company would point this issue out right the hell away too, so quick acting like this is some dumb game.

The funny thing is I really like my Apple products, but I've never defended them like I have with this issue. Because it's beyond scary how absolutely inept many of you are with it.

Surely you've heard Apple recalibrated the bars, negating all the YouTube videos based on the old software. You can't make an up to date iPhone 4 go from 5 bars to searching. It doesn't happen.

Because it's a design flaw. I had a 3GS and I had 1-50 or so calls dropped, which was a lot for me, but I loved my iPhone so much, it was tolerable. My iPhone 4 dropped 25-50% of my calls. I exchanged it, same thing. I belive it's a localized issue to either areas with a certain type of cell tower or maybe not the best signal (I'm in a populated area in central Florida with a cell tower almost in view of my house).

So you don't own all three phones and did not have them in the same place at the same time to check the signals as you explained?
Correct me if I'm wrong?

I've seen you post that before - I'm glad it works well for you. Maybe AT&T had a repeater in the building, which happens a lot. Or you are next door to a cell tower. My point is, many places are not this fortunate - like my home town of St. Petersburg, Florida - which isn't exactly po-dink-ville.

There are tons of videos in YouTube too that shows iPhone 4s without any death grip issue...

Go on YouTube. Videos to prove it exist.

I have read reports that two iP4 side by side, one exhibited this issue and one did not.

Could be. Sometimes when my IP4 is sitting on my desk and I notice that it already only has two bars or so of strength, I hold the phone as tight as I can in my left hand and still don't lose any signal. I've been trying to replicate this issue for weeks, doing exactly what's in all the youtube videos about the antenna issue, and haven't had any success. The ironic thing is that all the people who tell me I'm just being fanboyish and ignoring a problem THEY KNOW I have don't own iphone 4s...

On the flip side I have a Bold 9700 as well because my company only uses BES for email, and I actually can get it to drop a few bars when I hold it the same way as the apple demo video.

But I'm obviously lying because my real-life personal experiences actually support Apple. So clearly I'm just living in that reality-distortion field. Because that's a much more rational explanation than real-life experience.

What companies play "dirty ad tricks" on Apple. Apple played "dirty ad tricks" With the I'm A Mac campaign.

To add to this, there's a video on the front page of MacRumors showing that the brand new Droid X also shows a DRAMATIC drop in signal when held normally.

It's weird that no one thinks it happens with all phones based on strength of signal yet that's what ALL THE VIDEOS AS A WHOLE prove, whether looking at the iPhone 4 videos or the other phone videos.

It's not too hard to understand.
