I just hope that if they launch the new iPhone X in September that they allow iPhone Upgrade Program members to upgrade "early" without penalizing us because they were behind last year.

What penalty? You knew when you signed up that you would need to wait 12 months.

Smartphones are now a commodity. What separates them is now mostly marketing BS and weak minded users that think buying and iPhone makes them popular.

With Android there is the poor OS. With the iPhone much better design features, but poor implementation software/hardware quality and lack of care about what users want. Apple can only copy Samsung for so long, til people get wise and go straight to the source.
I am still waiting for that integrated ecosystem from Samsung.

This isn’t 2007 anymore
But people aren’t earning much more than they were in 2007, inflation has been pretty much flat and most importantly, the cost of components like screens has dropped dramatically now they are no longer new technology.
Apple profit margins are the highest in the industry so they could cut prices.

They could totally cut prices, and I bet you big bucks they would sell and earn more if they did not just iPhones but especially Macs

This just in: Supply shortages already reported for the new iPhone XI which could potentially push the launch date back to 2019. Stock prices rise slightly in response to the news...

Yes Apple is at risk of imminent collapse. We’ve been hearing that one for the past 5 years. Reality is they are reporting their highest profits ever. This is click bait but probably an attempt to depress the stock value which is good for buyers.

Did you adjust for inflation? Also the new phones now do a lot more than the high end phones from 4+ years ago.

Inflation? An increase of 400 dollars in 10 years is due to inflation for you? Or it's wiser to just call it with its name, "corporate greed " ? Apple is the corporation with the highest revenues in the world. How can people still defend the absurd pricing of those phones ? They could price them at 500$ and still have a great profit, WTF !

The 10 year increase of cost of smartphones can’t be attributed very much to inflation, but it also isn’t solely due to corporate greed. I don’t know if you can actually find a phone that has the same screen size and resolution, with a cpu with the same processing power with the same battery technology and life, and the same cellular modem, memory and features but if you could then I bet that phone, from ANY major supplier would be cheaper today than 10 years ago.

With competition being fierce among top end phones companies need to spend massive amounts of money on CPU design and manufacturing, and then they all get to go thru the same thing again the next year. Adding feature like Bluetooth and 4k video capacity also weren’t done for pennies. Most top end phones have some form of fingerprint ID and Apple has FaceID, which evidently works well for most people. Once again, capabilities that aren’t free.

Comparing today’s Top of The Line phones, from any company, to the first generation of smartphones is like comparing a Tesla to a Model T. They both have 4 wheels, and the basic purpose of both models of cars is the same, but how they do it, and how well they do it, is a world apart. And the technology level of my car analogy is probably pretty accurate. You can argue people don’t need something much more powerful than 1st generation smartphones but the cost difference between 1st gen and now is not pure greed. Money was spent on product improvements that went far beyond superficial or cosmetic.

So wrong. Just so blatantly wrong.

If you gave me a Galaxy for free, I'd still buy an iPhone X.

You don't speak for everyone when you say Apple poorly implements hardware/software. FaceID is FANTASTIC. Samsung just copied Animoji and Android is tripping over themselves to move to secure facial unlock systems. They are putting notches in the phones. They are removing headphone jacks in favor of wireless. They even copy the marketing and design, like Xiaomi just did.

The entire Android iOS got its start by copying iOS, yet iOS is still superior, support is still better, and iPhones still hold value on the secondary market far longer. Apple designs the best mobile chips, has the best software, and even the best hardware in many areas (chips, screen, camera better than many Android phones, FaceID tech, etc).

Did you see the joke of facial tracking from Samsung after they copied Animoji? Looks like creepy garbage.

Apple is still leading this industry and it's not even close.

I just wish Apple's Mac hardware were also the best in class to justify their prices. They've fallen behind there. I REALLY want a Mac but cannot justify the price. With the iPhone it's a no-brainer, and there's a good variety of price points for first-time buyers.

Love your Signature btw. I too think Tim is doing great. Just wish him to say no more often and also say "let's do this, let's do that" in terms of leading with common-sense such as having been able to intervene on the extreme of thinness over practicality with MBs

"X2"...
Souldn't that be XI?
Which would make this years iphones: 9-XI (9-11).
And next years: 10-XII
Is the 2019 iphone 10 the same as the current X? Or are we getting iphone 8s this year...

I'm in no rush for a new iPhone. My 7 has been working perfectly well and I don't want a phone that's ALL glass. With the $29 battery replacement I expect my phone to keep working fine for another 2 years. After the 7, there hasn't been any new features that I "must have". I suspect we're nearing, or have already hit, smartphone peak.

Yeah I upgraded to an X and find that I now miss the noticeably crisper photos the 7 took. the lighting and depth on the X portraits are great but something about its post processing really softens a list of detail.

beyond the perceived camera upgrade it’s, just....another iphone to me. good app ecosystem but overall doesn’t feel any more WOW than my 6, SE, 6s plus, or 7. to each their own. i’m excited maybe in ios 12 Siri becomes useful and not something so frustrating to have to correct all the time.

So either they are not lowering the price of the phones, like rumored, or they want to create a demand. Not good, Apple.

Either that or the new iPhones won't offer too much new over the iPhone X (2017) other than sizes and so Apple isn't expecting a huge rush to upgrade?

(I'm just guessing here, not basing it on anything factual)

Not basing it on anything factual, huh?

So you mean you're just like everyone else (including me) who posts on this site?

Well Apple, no one can live in the spotlight forever. If companies stays strong all their lives, it world get rather boring...

There's gotta be an dip somewhere.

What spotlight? No one means no person. Which person are you referring to?

I don't mean a person,, I mean a company specifically..

"Specifically, last year Apple was said to have placed orders for the production of as many as 100 million iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X units. That number is now down to 80 million in 2018"

It's a fall

Pretty much yeah! I just wanted to make sure it was clear that I was just throwing an idea out there but I wasn't basing it on anything other than just a possibility.

Of course nobody gets to reign forever (thank god!). But we shouldn’t be so proud as not to recognize and applaud when it’s happening.

And that’s exactly what we’re still bearing witness to today: A reign of excellence. That doesn’t make Apple, its products, or its people infallible. And naturally, various moments throughout this reign might have had more sparkles of innovation and disruption than what we’re seeing now, but there’s no denying what a juggernaut of impact Apple still is.

And so to Apple, I applaud you. It's been well over a decade since the first release of the iPhone, and it’s astounding just how well you’ve been able to improve, iterate, and stay the champ for so long.

Honest question here. How many Apple holidays do you celebrate a year? There's Jobmas (October 5), iPhone Day (June 29), and New Apple Day (April 1). Clearly if you don't celebrate any of these days, better applaud with actions than words.

Every day is like an Apple holiday, when you are as entrenched in the Apple ecosystem as I am and am enjoying the great user experience that they provide.

Doesn't seem like it. For example, you should be making yearly treks to Belgrade to commemorate Jobmas and Prague for iPhone Day. Actions to show you're a believer! :)

I'm just messing with you. Glad you're enjoying your Apple experiences.
