So IP protection means nothing?

And what is this IP. The Samsung runs android OS. Which has not been found to be IP infringement to apple so far. The thing they have an issue with is Samsung's custom UI. But when the Home button is pressed it takes you to the android home not that ugly thing they have. Besides the apple home screen feels like it is to cluttered IMO

there's criticism and outright hating, the latter being what's happening far too much lately.

this isn't a d!ck move, they're protecting their IP, if they don't attempt to protect it, they lose the patents, as many people have stated. but don't let the facts stop you there......

plus the galaxy is a blatant knockoff when you see the side by side comparisons. samsung blatantly copied the iPhone's UI for their touchwiz UI and made their phone have an extremely similar look to the iPhone.....

If you go by the phones exterior it seems that apple initially ripped Samsung off. Did you see the previous picture of the Samsung F700 and its Comparison to the iPhone. It looks like they modernized up their old design to me

If you read the thread you'd see that that samsungs phone came out after the iPhone was unveiled.... Nice try tho. My point is that it's the exterior and samsungs UI as a whole that's the issue. Looks like an iPhone knockoff in all the pics of it. Look at the other android phones like the htc ones, they clearly went for different looks. Samsung ripped off the iPhone.

1) Show me something that works as well BEFORE Apple demoed the iPhone.

2) Technology =/= usability.

3) If you hate Apple then why are you doing here?

1) The list is endless.

2) Even six year old kids know this

3) Try showing some respect, the poster does not hate.

Remember the value of an intelligent exchange of thoughts and experience is of far greater value when approached with an open mind.

1) I've noticed a huge anti-Apple thing here, when this is meant to be a fan site!

2) This place seems to be infested with 12 year olds.

1) This seems to be in response to the Apple fans attacking anyone who fails to agree with them.

Instead of having an intelligent, respectful conversation, many Apple fans take it personally, and stoop down by calling names and assigning labels like hater or troll.

Now it degrades to argument status instead of useful conversation.

Therefore the message seems to be "if you've had a problem with Apple, or their product, don't bring it up or you'll be attacked".

Viewpoints are only welcome if pro Apple.

2) I often wonder what the demographics are since their seems to be a distinct absense of adult behavior.

Quite honestly that is also debatable.

The Android Marketplace has most "Major" apps that Apples App Store has.

So looks like iOS really doesn't have any real distinct advantage than does it?"

No, quite honestly it's really not that debatable at all. Where's Android's GarageBand? Keynote? Pages? OmniFocus? Carcassonne? Death Rally? Netflix? TabToolkit? DJay? World of Goo? Infinity Blade? Reeder? Flipboard? The list goes on. And on. And on.

Of course Android has...Google Maps with voice.

The issue is that Samsung devices look so similar to Apple's products. So much so in fact that it creates confusion for the consumer. I have witnessed many people mistake an Android handset for an iPhone because they look damn near identical, especially to the average, non-techy type. You can't tell me that they are unable to give their devices their own look. They could, but they don't want to. They want to look like the real thing. It's no accident.

It's not at all only about a 4x4 icon matrix.

Are these people you witnessed who mistook a samsung phone for an iphone blind? Or not able to read? It says "samsung" right on the front of the phone.

Google maps w/ "voice" is easily better and more useful than any of those apps you listed. I guarantee you that if it was available in the app store it would be in the top 5 downloaded apps

"Easily better?" "More useful?" Please. I don't spend all day in my car needing driving directions and I doubt you do either. Navigation is way down my list of things I do with my mobile devices. Apparently it's the #1 thing for Android fans, since they don't have any other quality software to use. :p

As for navigation, I bought Navigon. Does everything Google Maps does even when I don't have a data connection. Sure, I had to pay $30 for it, but you can't get all those other quality apps I mentioned for Android at any price.

You'd be amazed at how many non-techy's (aka, most of the consuming population) think iPhone refers to a type of device rather than a specific one made by apple.

I'm actually going to side with Samsung over this, Apple's argument won't hold up in court. That's like Samsung telling Sony they can't make a black 42inch flat screen tv anymore because they sell a similar one. The galaxy isn't using Apple's iOS, case closed.

Where is Apples Gameboid, SnesBoid. and other emulators where is apples google voice at. Face it both of them have apps that the other doesn't are any of those apps necessary...NO. Most of those where developed by apple themselves Apple only develops for apple. Google develops for anyone and everyone.

So, apparently, to you the only intellectual property cause of action is copyright?

There are google voice apps for iphone.

I don't understand the rest of what you are saying. "Most of those where developed by apple themselves Apple only develops for apple." Huh?

So IP protection means nothing?

Personally, I find the concept that you can own a "thought" or "idea" to be LUDICROUS...but that's me. There have been times in history where two people have invented the same thing on the different sides of the earth independently (before mass communication led to this idea of 'you MUST have stolen my idea BS'). An idea is worthless if you cannot implement it...or so one might think (i.e. patent trolls who patent every ABSTRACT method for doing something possible and then idiots at the patent office GRANT a patent for something abstract that never gets built and voila, everyone sueing everyone else for the same basic crap that everyone is using.

IMO, *competition* should be the rule of the day, not suing everyone all the time. And companies that start in the U.S. that move jobs out of the country and ship goods back to the U.S. should be TARIFFED to the point where they cannot benefit from the move for cheap labor. That would stop companies from arbitrarily fraking people's lives over so they don't have to pay a real living (FAIR) wage to someone. IMO, those people that ruin lives for sheer greed are the absolute SCUM of the earth and if there's any justice in this Universe, there's a HOT place waiting for these people when they leave the Earth.

I'm sure the greedy types will scream about that assessment and their right to be stinking rich on the backs of slave labor, but IMO they can go frak themselves. Greed is the bastard child of all that is evil. If you only care about yourself, you are on a slippery slope to all depravity possible. Evil doesn't come from loving others, after all.

Weren't those emulators developed for iOS first and ported to Android later? If you jailbreak you can use emulators, so that's always an option. However, it's not exactly the same, but it is fairly easily done!

So I take it you don't want any more medications, yes? Because the only ways pharmaceutical companies can make back the tremendous investments in new drugs are either to:

1) take advantage of government-granted patents to exclude competition (which can easily reverse-engineer and duplicate the drugs) for enough time to allow the companies to pay back their research money and earn a profit

-OR-

2) charge thousands of dollars (or more) a dose in the short time window before the competition reverse engineers and copies the drug.

And there are many more examples.

Actually I spend a lot of time driving. In fact, I see lots of people driving all day, everywhere I go. Maybe you live in a small town and never go anywhere so you dont have a need for navigation.

Wow navigation is important enough to you, someone who doesnt drive and need directions to spend $30? Imagine if gmaps was allowed in the app store... it would be the #1 app.

exactly i know a few non-techies who have mistaken the samsung galaxy for the iPhone. i looks extrememly similar.

you're reducing the situation to a ridiculous thing. that's not it at all, the galaxy looks the same as the iPhone, look at the pics. HTC and motorola went and made phones that look significantly different to the iPhone, but samsung chose to ripoff the iPhone.

The other thing you should have added is that Google Maps on Android has supported offline caching since December last year.

Perhaps if people have isues where they lose their data connection whilst using gps they should move to a more reliable network?

Andy, at what point were these "non-techies" confused at what is an actual iPhone? Was it at the point of sale because if it was, every single mobile phone/electronics shop I go in to has their phones laid out with specifications and information about the product they are looking at. If people are dumb enough to buy the "wrong" product at this point in the sale, what hope is there for them?

Actually there are a few devices now that have netflix, and Keynote, and pages are debatable when you have equally good software like quickoffice(love it on my Nokia). I did a quick google and I think DJay is out for Android now, same goes or Reeder. I know Android crud, but do some research, even for 1min if you have to.

My Nokia came FREE, highly rated navigation app that doesn't require data. Your point?

The samsung was already presented in 2006 before the iPhone was there ;)
