And yet none of you or the people who liked your comments have seen it. Sigh.
But...I have seen it.
Apple still makes great products. We will always miss the times when Steve was around, like we miss being a kid and having old toys.

I think what Apple has lost is the audacity and boldness to 'Think Different', they have a monopoly so they'll just play it safe. If they come up with something amazing they'd hesitate to make the change for fear of losing being number 1. Steve had that boldness to say to people, no you're wrong, we're right. The best thing he said about this was "If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will."
i don't know. I don't agree with their decision to do it, but wasn't removing the headphone jack just to keep the phone within their "vision" a bold step? That definitely wasn't pandering to what people wanted. I'm sure there are other things but it's 5am and I can't think off the top of my head

It's A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE commercial though. Google should use this commercial and do a side by side comparison, of how SIRI REALLY performs in the real world compared to all you can do with google now.

I love my iphone, but I'm not delusional and I know how much Siri really sucks. Only last year did it actual recognize the word Vancouver. When I go on business trips there, I just use my work phone with Google now. Just so much more superior.

More realistic:
Me: read me my last email
Siri: searching the web for email

Me: Siri, can you read my last email
Siri: I'm not what you think I am (or some stupid joke)
It's a company making an ad about a feature in their products. You're getting your panties in a wad over nothing. Chill

No, I am fairly sure the early posters would still have flamed the heck out of the article regardless. That's how toxic the community has become these days. All hung up over their lack of Mac updates and completely missing the forest for the trees.

Thankfully, Apple's success isn't contingent on the views and opinions of an extremely vocal minority. I shall enjoy watching Apple grow more and more prosperous in spite of all the hate and vitriol being spewed here.

Just because a company gets fat and rich with hundreds of billions in the bank doesn't mean it can't improve user experience in a myriad of ways. I wouldn't complain if I didn't care.

Siri and Cortana and Bixby all have the same problem. They all have to be reactivated by voice or action. It should remain in conversation until you say stop. Like a normal conversation.

The problem with this idea is both training the silicon, microphone and software to know over any length of time that YOU are still talking to IT. Especially when other voices are heard. Heck people loose focus and track all the time regardless of age in a similar situation.

there are a number of problems with Siri:
1. it must always have an internet connection
- time on the phone
- playlist and music stored on the phone
- emails and sms already downloaded
- Memo's, apps, etc already on the phone
- appointments
^ all the above cannot be done with Siri without an internet connection - because well there is NO local component of Siri that lives on the phone.

Would it not be great for someone to say "Hey Siri, find me directions to my mom's work" when NOT having a signal in the subway and then soon as you get cellular data boom the directions are there.

So everyone freaked out over nothing. This was simply a commercial, nothing more. I thought it was excellent when viewed as a commercial, although it was a bit long and drawn out but I guess I'm just used to 30 second spots. Something like this I'd expect to see condensed into 60 seconds and shown at superbowl halftime, with a bit more emphasis on the iPhone itself and not only Siri.

Of course we are still ignoring the fact that Siri sucks, but Apple isn't in the market of dissing their own product.

Because the computer R&D department also does marketing and hires actors? Seriously, I find these comments ridiculous. A company can do more than one thing, that is what departments are for.
Also, Tim Cook is not doing EVERY SINGLE THING in the company.

Indeed, we must be thankful for this movie.
It brought us to realize that Apple has become that massive omniversed corporation targeting the masses. That's great because the shareholders want it. That's to internalize ourselves with.
New targets. New messages. New values.
Be happy to find good old (more if the same) products around every streetcorner on the planet.
That's an entirely different outlook.
Innovation today is: getting the streets filled.
Instead of sophistication, Apple will meticuously find the lowest common denominator of tastes, the lowest hanging fruit, the easy scoring with average stuff to be forced through the throats of the billions no matter the cost.
Instead of OLED, I want tatoos over my screens. Because we should want to be mainstream.
Stop bothering about shallowness, things broadened and matured - we're part that mass and we should be proud that Apple has come that far. Throw away those Macs and monitors. Stop waning about Mac Mini's. They don't contribute.
We have entered the postPC era, and if Tim Cook says so, who are we to oppose !?
I'm more happy than the gray IBM turd customer in 1984, paying for every single copied grey 3870 terminal each year - just because it was IBM.
Because this is Apple and TC is my Appledom symbol.
I want to contribute to their huge buildings, their lifestyle, their abundant overcapitalist managers' payrolls. I adore those people earning 20 mio a year (if they get it, they must deserve it)
If I contribute to their greatness, I contributes to mine.
It feels so great to be part of this mass elevation of mere mortals.
Oh, I want to die in the ApplePark.

Oh, I want to die in the ApplePark.

And to die in the ApplePark will be by the use of that very pill in your avatar ;)
just being cheeky.

It's the euthanasia ApplePill for former evangelists...

Maybe it's time you Apple fanboys learn to let go.

Times have changed, and Apple has changed in keeping with those times as well. Seek solace in the knowledge that you have all played your part in helping Apple become a part of this new world order, and recognise that what you want from Apple may not necessarily be what is best for Apple's future.

Wrong. Knowing that The Rock is the highest paid actor (at least he was in 2016), his quote alone would exceed the entire budget of Bill Hader's movie.

Being on Youtube doesn't mean anything about the video's intended audience.

In many instances, iOS and OSX/macOS versions were demoed by Scott Forstall/Craig at WWDC and again at an event several months later. I remember Scott Forstall giving the same Maps flyover demo at WWDC and at a September event. It's because the events were intended for different audiences.

Wrong. The last line of Bill Hader's movie "Whoever walks out there better have something incredible to say". And then Tim Cook walks out to the event. The movie was made to make an entrance at WWDC. Can you play Bill's movie in the middle of WWDC? Nope. At the end of WWDC? Nope. With the Siri movie, you can.
I'm glad we have an insider like you. How do you know that The Rock didn't do this for free for publicity and Bill Vader didn't demand $1 million to appear in the WWDC video? You don't.

This is Apple's Youtube channel. Everything on it is intended for the same public audience.

They are both long form commercials. They don't appear on TV. They appear online.

Thx. If you really care how grateful I am:

likewise, how do we know Apple didn't pay The Rock his quota?
knowing that The Rock is in high demand for several upcoming movies and TV shows, his schedule is extremely tight (which the movie was making fun of). it's much more likely that Apple paid The Rock his quota so that they can squeeze this ad in before The Rock goes off to focus on his next movie. The Rock doesn't need more publicity, but bill hader does (it's also much more likely that bill hader did it for free so he can get publicity)

it looks like bill hader's intro isn't even in the WWDC 2015 video on Apple's youtube page. Apple cut his intro out before uploading the WWDC video. my initial point still stands: bill hader's video was meant for the developer audience.

That was highly unnecessary as a reply to me. My point is, the computer manufacturing and R&D departments are NOT responsible for marketing, creating ads, and hiring actors for those ads. Those people that say "Create computers instead of ads" are ridiculous. NO company should have marketing and ads then.

Ads for mediocre products shouldn't exist because mediocre product shouldn't exist. Core responsibilities are not the issue afaik see (but computer manufacturing could be better, so corporate priorities could be better)

Its all subjective. Taking your point of view, Microsoft should have NO ads for the Surface Pro because I do find it to be a mediocre product. I do not find Siri to be mediocre.

Then they should have hired an opinion leader like you to do the ad with some credible use cases - instead of a lunatic who crashes his car 25 times an hour

Ah, some free advice then.
Hire Kim Khardasian (or someone of her mental ability and bra size) and let her struggle for 15 minutes with your whatever product. Then come in, smile irresistably, and show how it just works.
It will make ordinary people feel sooooo good about it.

So, isn't that what Apple did ?
Have you ever used Siri ?
Didn't they just put someone famous using it without error ?
Didn't it work ?
Didn't the video go viral ?
Isn't that the purpose of marketing ?

// The Rock is not dumb FYI

Isn't the whole point of marketing stunts and ads, that people like them?

I can point you to a ton of ads from Apple that are amazing work, they're funny, or moving, clever....

THIS thing does not have any of that, it's not funny, it's not clever, it's not entertaining, it's not informative.

What it is, is a waste of money.

And yet, probably will reach more people who actively seek to view this than all those ads.

Sure. It's like a nice restaurant vs. McDonalds.

It's not a good strategy for a company that does not want to be seen a mass market junk brand.

Or maybe they do now? But in that case their products are way, way too expensive.

Better ask these questions of imminent relevance to the original poster.
