I'm offended at some of the dreck coming out of Hollyweird! They spend hundreds of millions of dollars making 'The Next Blockbuster Movie Of All Time'. and it hugs the toilet so hard, it flies off the floor! And coupled with the 'white washing', or 'wasp washing', they manage to ruin anything they get their hands, and money into.

Ghost In The Shell. An all Asian movie, taking place in Japan, and were there more than 10 Asians in the whole movie, and the title roles were played by 'white people'. *HEAD DESK*

Sorry , I think you are missing the point of Japanese animation.

Japanese manga that have been turned into films staring only Japanese actors have generally been gringe worthy. Ghost in the shell was actually one of the better ones.....even with "White people"

Siri and Cortana and Bixby all have the same problem. They all have to be reactivated by voice or action. It should remain in conversation until you say stop. Like a normal conversation.

The garbage that Apple spends their money on.... least we know they're not just sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Kinda depressing to see them putting out something like this after year after year of iMac looking the same and not updating in response to other competitors' products. Boo. Tim Cook's Apple is more about feelings and social cause instead of quality products and innovation. Sad.

Come on people, it is a long form advertisement, and a good one at that. The negative comments are ridiculous.

Yeah, we should all just cheer and thank Apple for spending money on this instead of innovation? LOL. I am an absolute Apple fan, however even I got bored at about 45 seconds into this. There's a reason commercials are 30 seconds not 2.5 minutes. Because 30 seconds is about as long as you can keep someone's attention while trying to sell them something.

As much as I like looking at Scarlett Johansson, yeah, for a live action version of a canonical anime, they really should have used actors who properly resembled the anime characters. Studio executives seem to have a strong habit of underestimating their audiences, which likely helps cause the very problems they perceive.
I have a gen4 ATV, and a Logitech (LOGI?) Harmony wireless remote, and it actually replaces the remote from the ATV, and is a hell of a lot easier to use. I would STRONGLY recommend pitching the gen 4 ATV remote, and using a Harmony, or possibly other brands that can replace that crappy and drama filled remote. (POX on the designer of that crap!!!)
Weird. I have the ATV4 and a Logitech Harmony 650, and I only use the Harmony remote for turning everything on or off, and for the rare occasions I watch OTA broadcasts. I much prefer the ATV4 remote (in a Griffin Survivor Play case and with Apple's Remote Loop attached) over the Logitech - it's small, easy both to grip and to pick up off a table (with the case on it), and has precisely the buttons I need, without 40 "spare" buttons that I don't, and the buttons are highly responsive (the Logitech buttons are more typically squishy, requiring more travel and reacting more slowly). I never use the Remote Loop as a wrist strap, only as a "tail", which, along with the case, helps orientation in the hand.

Granted, I shouldn't have to put a case and a tail on it to fix things - they clearly went for form over function - but so equipped, it's my favorite remote (and nearly the only one I use). The minor additions make a world of difference. I hope the ATV5 remote uses the same basic layout but improves the ergonomics and grip of the stock remote (though I halfway expect they'll ship the exact same remote).

Casting Johansson is precisely the reason I skipped it in theaters. The Rotten Tomatoes rating is why I won’t bother to rent it. If the studio thought they had a great film on their hands they wouldn’t have needed to cast her in the lead role. As soon as that was announced I knew the thing wouldn’t be worth watching. Not that she’s a bad actress. I like her character in the MCU films. It just seemed like stunt casting for a film that shouldn’t need a well known acctress in the lead in order to sell itself to audiences.

Spewing hate gives people a wee bit of power for a minute or two. That's s omething that is otherwise lacking in their lives.

Really? I have a problem with this 3 minute long form ad because Siri is already OLD. NEWS. Siri has been around since October 2011. Now if you think this is brilliant, I have to say it's a waste of money and time. It was, actually, bad timing.

One has to ask this question: Why the hell didn't they do this kind of ad about 5 years ago?!?

This short commercial had nothing to say but to spew forth inanity which insults the intelligence of the viewer. I mean, the Rock floating in space saying "Hey Siri"?! Um, hello. He's got a helmet on. How the hell can the phone work? Is Apple trying to suspend a sense of belief with science fiction? Is this how they're supposed to advertise how their products work via bad science?

NOTE: unless he had an AirPod on him inside the helmet, that's another story.

I'm sorry, but this three minute short ad is retarded. I don't care if it's aimed at hipsters, millennials or whatnot. It was garbage. Anyone who happens to like it LACKS the ability to have critical thought.

Apple wants you to turn off your brain and guffaw at it without question.

Is that how Tim Cook wants to change the world by catering to the lowest common denominator and proclaim to fight for social justice by being critically thoughtful about government reform and digital privacy? He, or should I say Apple, can't have it both ways.

Did people not read the article? It's obviously not supposed to be a serious feature film. The video is being posted on YouTube; it's clearly intended to be a commercial that happens to star Dwayne Johnson.o_O

It's A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE commercial though. Google should use this commercial and do a side by side comparison, of how SIRI REALLY performs in the real world compared to all you can do with google now.

I love my iphone, but I'm not delusional and I know how much Siri really sucks. Only last year did it actual recognize the word Vancouver. When I go on business trips there, I just use my work phone with Google now. Just so much more superior.

More realistic:
Me: read me my last email
Siri: searching the web for email

Me: Siri, can you read my last email
Siri: I'm not what you think I am (or some stupid joke)

You seem very angry. Might be best to just change the channel and find some happiness.

Is that supposed to be the new Siri voice? I thought they made it more realistic. It sounds pretty much like the old one. Otherwise it was alright for a commercial.

Very entertaining commercial, which highlights things Siri can do and how to do them.

The reason the early comments are so negative is that at the time this Macrumors article was posted, the only information from the Twitter posting was that the media was a "movie", so everyone took it to be a full-length movie. If everyone had known it was just going to be a 3 minute, 45 second commercial, then I don't think people would have gone ballistic.

The same reason I get upset with Apple as when I order overeasy eggs and they come out too done, I don't appreciate the product and hope they right the ship. And I don't feel particularly powerful calling out bad eggs.

Well, I actually enjoyed the Rock-Siri video. It's clearly a commercial, but Very tongue in cheek and I was chuckling a good bit over it.

Another aspect of it I liked is that parts of it were reminiscent of the "Mutha Nature" movie as part of the "Disaster" ride (now closed, boo-hoo) at Universal Studios Florida in which the Rock was the hero of the film to save everyone from the ecological disasters being brought abought by the evil corporations. Dwayne made his entrance into the story saying "you can trust me....I'm a Park Ranger!

The Villain is screaming into a walkie talkie to,him: WHO ARE YOU ???? The Rock replies, while swing-cocking his rifle/shotgun....I'm,just a nature lover, pal........Just a nature lover.....as he tosses a grenade over his, shoulders, to.blow,up the evil, refinery. All done as if filming a low budget movie, so lots of tongue in cheeck, and not being taken seriously. It was a fun attraction, This Rock & Siri short had a lot of the tone and spirit of the Universal's Disaster ride.. that's why I enjoyed it as comedy.

apple should just buy netflix to avoid even further embarrassment.
Why?

Can we finally admit that Apple is no longer a tech company and is now a marketing/media company?
That is so off-base it might as well be in a different language for all the sense it makes. Sounds clever, as if straight from the mouth of a real-life know-it-all, but it has no basis in reality.

Who do they market for? Themselves, just like all companies do. Do they market for anyone else? No. So they are not a marketing company.

Do they invest billions every year in R&D? Yes. Do they files hundreds of patents every year and own one of the largest collections of technology patents on the planet? Yes. Do they make the single most successful technology product in human history? Yes. So they’re a technology company.

Q.E.D.

What you mean like when Kevin Costner advertised the Lisa?
Or when Jobs got Jeff Goldblum in to advertise Mac?
Or when they got a host of celebrities to feature in the Switches series in 02?
Or when they got Verne Troyer to advertise the PowerBook G4 in 03?
Or when they got U2 to advertise the iPod in 04?
Or Eminem in 05?
Or Bob Dylan in 06?
Or Paul McCartney in 07?

I could go on. You get the point.

The've read "movie" and actual though it was a movie and fallen over to make themselves look stupid in the comments section.

It's just another celebrity Apple ad, like the many many that were released every year under Jobs. People on here are stupid.

Right?! You know they shot this long a short with the full intention of chopping it up later for snippet ads. Hell, I just saw a snippet tonight while watch TV.

This will always be an interesting video to watch just because it's him, but what makes you agree with his sentiment that Apple has forgotten what it takes to make great products? They're the richest company in the world with some of the highest rated products. Unless I'm missing something?

Apple still makes great products. We will always miss the times when Steve was around, like we miss being a kid and having old toys.

I think what Apple has lost is the audacity and boldness to 'Think Different', they have a monopoly so they'll just play it safe. If they come up with something amazing they'd hesitate to make the change for fear of losing being number 1. Steve had that boldness to say to people, no you're wrong, we're right. The best thing he said about this was "If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will."

No, I am fairly sure the early posters would still have flamed the heck out of the article regardless. That's how toxic the community has become these days. All hung up over their lack of Mac updates and completely missing the forest for the trees.

Thankfully, Apple's success isn't contingent on the views and opinions of an extremely vocal minority. I shall enjoy watching Apple grow more and more prosperous in spite of all the hate and vitriol being spewed here.

That was dumb and/but fun.
Self-aware, knows his audience, has fun at his job.
Seems like a pretty good life and pretty good job to me.

The Rock. The humour of the scenarios. The production all very good. Surprisingly good considering Apple was at the core. But then Siri and that awful robotic voice ruined it. Could we have the same advertisement without Siri? And just a film about a super hero bloke who is unfeasibly busy and a bit of self effacing takes on the subject. Good idea. Shockingly dated product...made even more obvious and clunky compared to modern and smooth CGI. It's almost a paradox. Unwittingly Apple show just how dated their voice assistant has become. Folks will watch this and say "Good to see Dwayne has the confidence to laugh at himself and that ... but it's the sam old Siri - what's new?" Answer: nothing. Smoke, mirrors and distraction. Again. "Look at man. He funny. Man speak to phone. Phone speaks in funny voice. Voice called Siri. Siri new? Me get iPhone". Er. No. This is 2017, Tim. The competition surpassed Siri years ago. Good try, mind.
