For a real challenge they should offer the option to remix her Eurovision performance. A fully spec'ed Mac Pro to the first person to make it listenable :)
What's really interesting about that is there are actually three vocal tracks for that one performance. One is the totally dry version which I've only heard from a few sources. The other was the one broadcast to most of Europe, which I heard thanks to my bf capturing it with his iPhone (long story) and the third one is the very corrected version they put up on YouTube. Interestingly, the European broadcast one was actually fine - they were clearly using Antares Live to help her out because the 100% dry is very, very bad.

Really though, who decided to put a 60 year old woman who clearly doesn't take care or train her voice, up on a flight of stairs to sing? That's bad production design.

What is it with Apple and their terrible Boomer taste? Last time it was inflicting U2 on us.
Aww, come on, do you really want Apple run by a bunch of 20 year olds and interns? That's when successful companies go down the tubes, when they get rid of their adults in management for younger (read: cheaper) talent.

The blatant misogyny on this forum is absolutely appalling almost any time a woman is mentioned. It's utterly laughable that there are comments about Angela Ahrendts (two so far) when she wasn't mentioned whatsoever in the article (and the irony of people saying "If I criticize Ahrendts I'm immediately labelled as a misogynist!!!!!!!!!" isn't lost on me after threads like this).

This is a free session presented by Apple featuring music by a pop legend (whose tour is sold out and album at number 1, as indicated above, for those of you doubting her relevance).
If you don't like it, avoid buying your lightning cable that day and scroll on.
You may be correct but it's not "blatant". Cowards on this forum (and most other tech forums) love to hide behind the idea that their idea is based on some merit. When Apple's stock or marketshare is down, blame the nearest woman or gay CEO. When Apple is up, they are quiet or find another aspect to criticize. Collectively, they give a voice to fear and ignorance because something is different than they remember or want it to be. Fortunately, Apple, even with all its own flaws, is a better citizen than some of its own customers.

She's going on tour from September 2019 to March 2020. All days sold out.
So... Yes, she's still relevant. More so than any other pop artist.
Actually, no. Go take a look at Ticketmaster. Even opening night still has tickets available. They were wildly overpriced - (some in the $3000 range for VIP) but it looks like they've come down. No city is sold out. I love Madonna, but the tickets were just priced badly.

Thats what I thought until I looked at sales. She is still killing it world wide despite no one listening to it in America that I can imagine. But apparently lots of people still interested.
Sales don't correlate directly to relevance. She has a large fanbase because she's so old (perpetual farewell tour) compared to most performers but no one under the age of 20 even knows who she is. But the same will also happen to every single young performer today too. How many of them will still be touring and selling out concerts in their sixties?

Number 1 album. Sold out tours.

People on this forum ignore those facts and say she is not relevant. They also find some way to bash Angela in an article that does not even mention her.

Typical macrumor bs.

Absolutely disgusting. Cook is a degenerate.

“We can’t have anything hateful or offensive on any of our platforms and we will use our market position to enforce strict censorship.”

*2 seconds later*

“Heeeere’s Madonna!”
Disgusting? Degenerate? What are you even talking about?

Madonna is hateful and offensive, and Apple is somehow being hypocritical by not censoring her?

Maybe something was lost in the Google translation, but I have absolutely no idea what your issue is.

Yea yea sure. You’d can interpret whatever you want into these comments. But that is just your view of the world.

People on here have been equally of not more critical towards the U2 thing that happens a while ago and as far as I can tell, that’s an all male band.

It’s not either/or.

There are definitely posters who have a problem when Apple promotes music they don’t like, regardless of gender. Beats one is a popular target because of its heavy emphasis on music for younger generations.

There are also posters who are triggered by strong, powerful, wealthy (and usually older) women. Angela Ahrendts, Oprah in the recent AppleTV intro keynote and Madonna in this very thread are all examples of this. It’s not at all surprising to see the same posters being offended by such women, for whatever personal issues they may have.

Unfortunately, MacRumors draws all sorts of Apple-hate from those who have nothing better to do with their time. I guess this is as good a place as any for them to vent their rage and frustration. Cheaper than therapy, too :)

Say what you want, but she played Pantera's "A New Level in front of thousands of people who'd never heard a heavy riff before in their lives:

...even if it wasn't terribly well.

Do you really think she's a Pantera fan? Her team of produces and goons probably told her she needed increase her income by broadening her appeal and catering to fans of different genres. She's probably never even heard Pantera. Or heard OF them.

She's a powerful and smart person, but to keep rehashing her same old songs is almost ruining them. Sometimes you just need to stop and let your legacy live on in glory.

I agree. I actually liked her 80s and very early 90s stuff. Always enjoyed the sound of her voice. And the video for Open Your Heart is pretty awesome.

Well maybe not in the US but all 6 dates in the city I live are sold out and the shows are still six months away. Could it be because she’s been living here since 2017 (Lisbon), I don’t know or maybe she’s more appreciated in Europe than in the US.

I thought Apple was only about hip hop and gen z tastes?

Not seen it mentioned but Madonna was basically worshipped by the gay community awhile back. So it fits in with the inclusivity crowd. I am gay and do t care if they can squeeze some money out of that.

I am the gay guy that comes to the part normally dressed. Apple is the company that comes in full drag and rainbows.

I've got 10 of Madonnas albums and she was very good at what she did. Still have to agree that she hasn't been relevant in a long time.

Absolutely.

On the other hand, you don't expect from the big mainstream company to push some small punk/mathrock/darkwave/whatever artist, nor to educate people. Their goal is to maximize profits, and if I have to choose over some big mainstream name form the past decades (that actually used to make some really good music in their prime), or some ****** gen z hiphop/r'n'b/mtv kid quasi punk, I'll always choose the former.

So true....

Madonna is a legend and an icon, who writes and produces songs. Would love to hear how she makes music.

If that’s your mental image of her please don’t listen to the Eurovision appearance.
(It will make you appreciate why auto tuning is the new recording gold standard)

And what’s going on with the eye patch FFS? Madame X? X-cruciating more like.

Sometimes it’s better just to remember your idols as they were the first time round .... and I WAS there the first time round, readers so I’m talking from experience.
Yes I really AM that old!

Well, during her "career" she's remade herself many times, so she should keep trying! As the Stooges said, "If at first you don't succeed, keep on suckin' til you do suck seed."
[doublepost=1560544755][/doublepost]

Yes, she's a legend in her own mind. Granted she had some top pop hits, but can she match the raw voice talent of Lady Gaga or Grande? Rhetorical question, so no need to answer.

Vocaltalent is overrated ;) No, but seriously, you can't deny that Madonna works hard and always has been working hard. Her tours are insane and some of her musical work is brilliant (Ray of Light, Erotica e.g.) at least whenever she doesn't try to be relevant (Hard Candy, MDNA, Rebel Heart). And why compare her with Gaga or Grande?

When were you last relevant?

As was said by a previous poster, whether you like her or not, there is no disputing that she is a pop legend. Are Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney or Elton John ‘relevant’?
She's in the bin with the Strolling Bones, Bruce Springsteen and the rest of senior citizens that just keep touring. Hey, more power to her. I enjoyed her, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Springsteen in the 80's and have fond memories of them. But for me, that's where she's staying---dustbin of my memory.
